Great advice. Water containers everyday in this 90 degree heat. Water inground garden every three days. Use mulch for all gardens.

Happy to see that I've followed a very similar method (using soaker hoses) in my raised beds for my Howden pumpkins. Though I'm still trying to figure out the best watering rate to train them to really reach deep with their roots and give me some big healthy pumpkins for carving.

depends on how much rain you naturally get.... with proper mulching in place the pumpkins actually shouldn't require much additional watering unless its a really dry place or insufficient mulching... pumpkin video will be next season because we took a break from them for this year!! thank you!
Thank you for the affordable solution for watering the garden. Your links work for the sprinkler and timer but you might sell more if you put them in your store.
Florida 9B here, i usually end up doing my SmartPot Raise Bed Plants (8' and 12' varieties) every 2ish days. It's been a few days and the soil felt a little moist still, but I like to give a nice watering.
One thing to note is that the roots WILL go through grow bags, so eventually the SOIL ITSELF needs to be watered as well. I actually have it set up now where I have my bags on a hill, so if I water above it, it will run down under the bags and water the roots there, besides going from the top. I've noticed tomato plants going through my 30 gallon grow pots, and my passionfruit burrowed through my 200 gallons pots as well. The raised beds are 24" deep I believe, and it seems a few tomato plants of mine have burrowed into the ground through that as well.

Another informative video my friend. Tonight will be my third application of the new slug solution. My brassicas were getting eaten up. That stuff burns when you get it on you lol. I had already sprayed and then saw some weeds I thought I needed to pull.

Yes! I've been watering like this with success for in-ground beds, but without the timer so far. Looks worth the investment.
I've got all my grow bags lined up and use 1/4" tubing for watering. Bags are all 20-25 gallon, each has 6 emitters in a circle on top and held down with garden staples. It's been working great for potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, onions and most other things. I could never get squash to grow like your mom has though, they seem to like in ground a lot better (all varieties). I'm down in Georgia, and it gets HOT, so we have to water a little more often when it's not raining. Tubing and drip tape takes a lot longer to setup (and more $$), but I love it. You just need to check with a test weekly to make sure nothing is loose or broken. I bought several timers similar to yours (at the world's longest yard sale--which is coming up), and I'd watch for ones that use AA batteries. AAA batteries don't last long, especially the 1.2v rechargeable ones. I've found good AA 1.5v rechargeables that work a LONG time--the red EBL ones. Those are also a few dollars more, but have also been worth the cost! The bigger your garden, the more time you need for watering, weeding, and debugging, so any shortcuts you can make saves you a lot of time and money!
I agree if you have the time and money to invest drip lines are the way to go

When I watered overhead with a sprinkler, I had horrible blight & powdered mildew.
that would be caused by other factors and not actually from the simple act of water hitting the leaves.

I love your videos. Unfortunately for me i dont have tap water available close to my veggie gardens. I rely on 5 gallon buckets and watering cans. Curious if you know that you are pronouncing Jadam incorrectly. Korean is a phonectical language so the vowel sound in JA is the same in DAM so its really pronounced Jah-dahm. And please dont get me started on Hyundai and Gangnam 😅

Good application. Output will vary by head pressure, y lie how full the barrel is. If possible get as much elevation on the drum as doable. As drum level drops you may have to micro tune it by adding a few extra minutes every day or days aD your application requires. Good luck 🍀
@@vonmajor yes sir thank you. We have it up on some cinder blocks, about 2 ft high. Then I'm going the cheap route, and just drilling holes in a bunch of old hoses. (last year, it did not have enough pressure for the typical prefab soaker hoses).
However, now I have acquired a larger spigot, that is really just a shut-off valve that will give me a lot more flow...

Hooked one of these timers to my drip system and it needs higher pressure than you'll get from gravity fed from barrels.
Works fine from faucet but not gravity fed from rain barrels.😢

I live in the PNW where it rains a lot in the spring but I’m still worried about using a sprinkler because of everything on the internet. I did have an automated system but it was a pain with something’s getting too much water, some not enough and the timer not working. Sigh, I’ve been watering with the hose by hand this year and it takes me a good 2 hours + to get both gardens soaked. I’m going to put a sprinkler in my lower raised bed garden and let the veg. Figure it out. Thanks for all your wonderful tips. I really enjoy listening to your voice. It’s very soothing.

I've had those brass junctions from home depot break on me twice. I'd suggest putting the timer between the outlet and the brass junction. Just in case it breaks.

This system is great for in ground crops. However using it this way for Mom's containers wastes over half the water by putting in the space in between.
Usually great content and spot-on info, but this one is questionable for the dry areas. Those are better with timed drip irrigation.
here water is ridiculously abundant and overflowing and conservation is not a topic on anyones mind so this is a very easy way to do it... here thousands of people literally water their lawn for hours on end!!!... not even growing anything useful!!... when I lived in Northern California and had to live off tiny little springs and water tanks then no we never did something like this we can only do drip lines to get the water exactly where it needs to be but its WAY more labor and cost intensive doing it that way... different setups for different situations

they actually don't even notice it... but I'd say about $10 a month at most for June July and august
I have to document what needs watering since the newly planted versus the well established plants require different amounts. My ridiculous leafmulch is trapping the monsoon rains we got months ago. I feel I may avoid a lot of bean die off in July because if that base fertilizer. I'm all about that base. 😂

Is that chamomile in her bags growing like crazy?! Mine isn't taking off yet. It was a winter sow that I started in milk jugs it sprouted in the end of February. I couldn't transplant until May bc I was purchasing a new property. But it's been in the ground since the middle of May and it's barely grown. I Gave it homemade compost in the planting hole and some fish fertilizer a few times. It looks green and healthy just not getting big and flowering yet.
all of her chamomile is volunteer from the season before!!!... we only actually planted it once about three years ago and now it just self sows... don't worry yours will take off its just setting its roots... maybe post a picture to the discord or instagram and tag me so I can see it

PS: late night watering can lead to mildew. Set this for like 4:30 or 5 a.m. It will still have time to absorb and will dry out and not get diseases.
We are receiving rain every other day for weeks now. I'm not watering. Fields around me are flooded...drainage ditches are full. We just had 9 inches of rain in 48 hours a few days ago with 2 and 3 tenths of rain every day after that. It's so wet...gnats and mosquitos are thick here.

Does it matter if they are baby plants that haven't establish very mature roots yet to implement this watering technique? For example, I am concern the baby cucumber seedlings would died/dried out if gone 3 days not watering in the hot humid Oklahoma territory?
if they are transplants then yes they need watered every day for the first week... but if they are seeds started in the ground then you do not want to water more than every 3 days as described in this video... it will make the young plants send roots much deeper in search of water which makes healthier plants overall
Oh my. I have vegetables in the ground, but my well doesn't produce enough water to water for 90 min. I'm lucky to get 20 min before my well is out of water, so I have to water every day or a couple times a day for like 15 min and then wait at least an hour to water again.

WANT to do with my life... is to become a foreign diplomat. Ideally, I want the US Government to send ME to Egypt. I can sing in Arabic and I have a good friend there. I could change world politics if I "worked for the US Army" in Egypt. I know that we're currently sitting on something that could save lives, if we built more of that specific "invention". I need help in this matter, unfortunately. I was dating a retired AF mechanic, but our lives are no longer compatible, and I have my own kids to look after (3 of them). I need a new "job"... now that I no longer work in hospitals as a caregiver. "Namaste", Sir 🙏
If you get reasonable amounts of rainfall, there is no need for supplementary watering and city water will indeed harm garden soil microbiome. Plants are what they eat, just like humans.

thats only true in a small percentage of situations... for most situations its the best option to give plenty of time for the soil to absorb the moisture before it gets cooked off by the intense sun...

Mesh cloth. Sold at homedepo, Lowes. His mom’s had a designated encaged area. It is mesh cloth, I’d say 1/4 inch. I also have used the plastic fencing. Got it at Amazon. It’s pretty sturdy and thick.
