Its amazing that so many bands continue on after their light has dimmed, while fans grow bored and often cringe, wishing theywould just stop, but PSBs have just grown and matured in such an intelligent and graceful way.

As he says (at the end) "all you need is a laptop" etc to make music nowadays to recreate that "Korg" sound ❤ and remaster Music 'Digitally' just shows how things have moved on making Music.

Great interview. He is just as intelligent, well-spoken, and unpretentious as I had imagined. Pet Shop Boys' most recent albums have mostly chucked the melancholic songs in favor of "bangers" but this is a band that has done so many of those types of songs already and they all get the multiple remix treatment. That whole synth-heavy sound with a 4/4 beat is starting to sound a wee bit dated, even to people like me who loved it and danced to it at the clubs. I happen to quite like their moodier songs like "Luna Park" and "King's Cross" and "Being Boring". It's okay to let the disco ball stop spinning for awhile. Every song need not be "It's a Sin " or "New York City Boy". The track "Invisible" from their Elysium album is as poignant a commentary on aging as any I have ever heard and the arrangement is sublime.

Yeah, well said/typed.👍 He's down to earth and as for Pet Shop Boys music in general do much prefer their 80's Music.❤

What Gavin Esler is saying is right, that Neil Tennant does seem to really enjoy coming on programmes like Hard Talk and debating but I think it's the opportunity to make himself heard and to put his own views across because he's clearly someone who is very intelligent and well educated.
I know that Neil is big supporter of the UK Labour Party, like Hugh Grant, Ross Kemp and Eddie Izzard.

  • @neilburns8869

I think that there's parallels to be had about Neil and Chris' idea of what touring and playing live should entail and the late great Freddie Mercury who always saw himself as a performer in that they want to make their live performances really something special.

Yeah, I actually considered going to see them in Chicago as part of their Unity tour with New Order, but then I quickly found out that the average ticket price was $400 for the cheap seats, and as high as $2500 for decent seats. I just as quickly changed my mind. I'm a huge fan of both bands, but those prices are crazy.

I agree regarding the gay labeling, it's not so cut and dry. I am a "gay" man, but often find myself explaining away the actual label. I am just a man who happens to be attracted to other men, primarily. I am just me. ☮️❤️✌️

Neil keeps it nice and highbrow: eg - 'From Lake Geneva..' (the journey of Vladimir Lenin in the sealed train to Finland), & 'What have I done to deserve this?' (thought to be a ref. to Christopher Isherwood's 'Mr Norris Changes Trains' - a book set in Weimar Germany). Great pop music too!

Loved this interview, but West End Girls was not the first rap song in America. That's preposterous. What Neil means is the first #1 on the pop charts back when #1s were sold and engineered by drunk, druggy record company executives. It was a wild time. I say this as a PSB Superfan. Blondie and Debbie Harry did rap 5 years before WEG. In the long run, who cares?
