Hi Matthew, sorry for the slow response. The short answer is yes. Long term rental is no problem in Qatar and can be arranged from your day 1. From your day 1, you will not have a Qatar residency. So, use your passport and an international driving licence to get your rental car. Once you have achieved your residency, return to the rental company and show then this residency. The rental company will then update their files with this new information. Hope this helps you in readiness for January.
I love this. I have two jobs offers from Qatar and one in Riyadh still deciding relatively pay is the same, but Riyadh is cheaper. I can convert my license to theirs easily. You mentioned you can’t leave the country with a car loan what about if it’s vacation or something like that.
Hi Eberechi, thanks for the post. When I say leave, I mean not to return :). So, you are able to leave the country if you are going on leave. It is then expected that you will return to Qatar to take responsibility of any loans etc. Some do actually leave and do not return, this then leaves the sponsor responsible for your debts, loans etc. Hope this is clear :)
Thanks for the video sir. You mentioned in another video that you weren't eligible for a car driver's license. I dropped out of college back in 1991 and never looked back, I'm a US citizen and looking to buy a property in Qatar since it's allowed now. Do you think they won't allow me to get a local driver's license? Is there a way around it? I found it weird that those countries ask you about your degree even if you're the owner of a foreign company! Let's say Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg wants to get a driver's license in Qatar, non of those two guys have college degrees.
Hi Land, in 2020, Qatar stated that foreign purchases of property would be allowed. This is the route that you are taking. This, in the detail will allow you to use this property with an unlimited visa to the country of Qatar. As part of that visa, you should be able to drive a car. You can check this in the details of the visa. The details will either be 1, you are not a resident (but do have a visa) and as such, can drive a car (probabaly not owned by you - as only a resident can own a car - however, your visa details will confirm if you are classed as a resident), and as such, you will need an international driving licence to which you can then hire a car and use that hired car for your stay in qatar. OR 2, you do have residency and as such, you should be able to drive. You may have to take a driving test but this will be confirmed in the small print of your visa detail. Hope this helps and hope you are in category 2. Good luck with your property purchase. You will have a great time living in the safest place on the planet :)
Hi J'Bear. Thanks for the comment. I was in Dublin a week or two ago. I too found the place very safe. Maybe you are right - Ireland is safer than Qatar :)
I just came across this video, what a lovely guy. Thank you Richard 👏
Hi JT, thanks ever so much for watching and liking the video.

Thank you Abhay. I hope to do another video tomorrow on alcohol - please keep your eye on the channel.
When I worked in Saudi I had a long term rental…..is this an option? Heading out to Doha in January.
