Wow, this is reminding me that I need to get out and exercise more! Your shoulders/back must have been so sore by the end of it, not to mention your legs. How much longer are you planning on staying in New Zealand? Feels like you've been there around a year, if my memory is correct
Actually, it wasn't too bad! My shoulders were very sore after the 2nd day, but then they were fine the next day, same with the legs haha 😅 I guess it's because I hiked a lot in between these 2 Great walks, so my legs are pretty used to it 😃 Also, yep, you're right, it's been a year. I've actually left New Zealand already 😭💔
Nice, Good work, just tell those fast trampers you had four extra hours of beautiful scenery. Can I make a suggestion? Don't read further if no😂😅 Between outdoors experiences study, practice and rehearse the same way you do with language study. You can find lessons plans on webs for all the basics. For example google: "how to pack a pack". Also getting a tent up quickly can be a life saver, rehearse this skill before needing it. Time is never wasted on rehearsals. Do mini full dress rehearsals before you go into the real outdoors. Just a thought.
Hi Catherine, you need to be fit to do even the Routeburn Track. I've been over it many times, and I have often met people exhausted because of a lack of fitness, many of who were also carrying packs which were just too heavy for a three-day trip. It also sounds as if your sleeping bag was unsuitable for outdoor use ... Still, a good video all in all.
My sleeping bag was fine, why wouldn't it be suitable for sleeping outdoors? I'm the kind of person who gets cold all the time, maybe the sleeping bag was not warm for me (also I used it during summer and I was totally ok) , but it'd be good for an average person. Also, I consider myself fit enough to do this track, I wouldn't otherwise do it. Yes, my bag was heavy (due to having all the camping gear), and yes, I did struggle on the 2nd day, but I felt so happy and proud of myself for doing it.
