Much prefer the lead-free option! I'm too clumsy/forgetful and have a kid and many pets .lead option is a no no for my home

So grateful for this video. I tried Canfield pewter finish lead free as my first dabble into lead free and had the hardest time with it. This video gives me hope. Where do you rank the sapphire lead free that you have on your site compared to the ruby and emerald?

Ah never mind sapphire had lead. Whoppsy

Hehe! Thank you!! Lead free is definitely a bit harder to work with than lead, but totally doable. The keys are to run hotter and faster (with any of them). I have a blog post all about lead free if you're interested here: www.mountainwomanproducts.com/all-about-using-lead-free-solder-for-stained-glass/
Of course, feel free to ask me any questions ya got here too!

Thanks for making this!! Exactly the problem I experienced with Tourmaline! Other than Canfield Diamond (which I'm a little concerned about the ingredients), I also hear some people like Canfield Pewter lead free. Not as shiny but supposed to be easy to work with. Have you ever tried that one?

You're welcome! Anytime. 😀 I haven't tried the Canfield Pewter.

What is the best flux to use for lead free, like Emerald Amerway? Does it matter what “kind” of copper foil? Loved the demos :)

Yay! Thanks! Glad it was helpful🥰 Canfield Liquid Flux is my BFF, but everyone has their preferences. I have a video comparing different types of fluxes here (they all work with lead free too, which I'm using in the video): th-cam.com/video/CwHZjlYgaDI/w-d-xo.html
For foil, both Edco and Stained Glass Foil brands are great! I'd stay away from cheapie random brands as they usually don't stick well & have a tendency to split around curves.
If ya need any, I have all the fluxes, foils, & solders available in my shop here: www.mountainwomanproducts.com/product-category/tools-supplies/

So, unfortunately i can not get these here in Canada without paying too much for shipping and duty. The lead free i uae is fairly easy but its just not shiny. How do you polish solder to make it shiney? Could i use my Dremel to make things easier?

Eeek! I'm so sorry I missed your comment! ☹ The shiny factor of solder is going to be limited by the combination of metals used in it, but the type of polish you use and how well you scrub it can make a big difference too. You can use your dremel with a polishing head (soft floppy fabric kind) which is easier than rubbadubdubbing by hand a zillion times. But, you will have to change the polishing head out more often cuz they're little and they get shmecky pretty quickly.
If you can find a solder up there that has similar components & quantities of metals to the Emerald or Ruby up there, that might help too! The Emerald is 97% tin, 3% copper. The Ruby is 97% tin, 2.75% copper, .25% silver.
I like to use a one step polish & waxing combo of carnauba wax and whiting. The recipe is here if you're interested: th-cam.com/video/pFJX44WrXUA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=NgMD7lczIJxcxq_W

I take one doesn't need flux for lead-free (or even leaded?) I'm brand new at this so forgive the silly question.

Good question! Yup! Ya do for any kind of solder. I cut out the fluxing to focus on the differences in the way the different solder flows. I have a video about different kinds of fluxes if ya wanna check it out 😀 th-cam.com/video/CwHZjlYgaDI/w-d-xo.html

Have you had any luck with patina on the ruby?
