I normally wear size 12 in Cole Haan but my Adidas Ultraboost is 11.5 (downsized after originally having a 12's because these shoes should be more form-fitting). After seeing this video I emailed Oliver Cabell before buying and they suggested going with a 12, but honestly, it's almost a full size to big and I can tell the toe will crease (or wors trip me) so I'm now working with them to get the size 11's. I'd also say take into account that most people that own Oliver Cabells say they need to be worn in (at least a few times) so at least in my case seems as if 11's will be perfect. Didn't mean to write a soliloquy... but thought you'd benefit from a more detailed answer.
I just ordered both and currently have them and am trying to choose which to keep. I easily prefer the Oliver Cabell, it is a beautiful shoe but I’m bummed to say it doesn’t fit me right. I need a half size, so I’ll probably keep the Beckett Simonon, which is also a cool shoe, just not as comfortable and high quality imo.
To think... I spent 550 on a pair of maison margielas when these look the exact same.. 😕 Also for those that care. Adidas has a model just like this for around 50-80 bucks.
I just received my black pair and was disappointed that they were not fully lined with leather. Probably to keep the cost down. They are comfortable and the leather is soft and of good quality. The suede quality is okay. Durable, but not very plush. Usually wear size 12 in Nike and Adidas sneakers, and size 12 in these shoes was perfect.
Hey Chester! Scott, founder of Oliver Cabell here. Just wanted to give you some insight on the lining! We actually don't fully line this silhouette with leather as it causes the shoe to be a bit rigid and more uncomfortable than we'd like (we created samples with leather lining to confirm this). This is primarily because there is suede stitched on top of full grain leather, which creates a fairly thick upon on it's own. I hope this helps clear things up a bit!
Just got a pair of Beckett Simonon G A T's on Pshmrk. These are very good shoes. Along with the Italian Leather, gum sole, waxed laces they are very light (compared to my Greats Royale with Margo soles) The GATs may become my new 'go to' shoe. Very impressed.
@@JR-jz7mt Thanks for asking. I havent worn them enough yet to speak of durability. Have them for sale on Poshmark as I have acquired many Greats Royales and wear them more. If the GAT’s dont sell I will likely put them in service this spring and summer. Excellent shoes
Hey man, since you’ve done a review for this mid end version of the GATs maybe try doing a review of the higher end version of the GATs from Maison Margiela,,,, that’d be an interesting video I’d like to watch in the near future if you do decide to do so
Amazing review once again! I recently discovered your videos ( couple months ago), and have been loving them. I love the suit reviews especially! I was wondering if you’d consider making a video about wearing suits more casually. As a young I don’t have the opportunity to dress super formal all the time, and am looking for some inspiration when it comes to casual suiting. I was hoping for maybe some sneaker looks, as I’m looking to wear my Oliver cabells, more often. Thanks again and keep up the awesome videos !
What are you recommendations on sizing. I usually wear an 11, but went with a 10.5 on the Greats. The Crown Northampton fit with an 11. I see the website recommends sizing down but only full sizes are available
Great video! Love the look of these GAT's but I have a question. I've been shopping for a new pair of Classic low- rise white men's sneakers but after seeing this review I was thinking of getting all white GAT's instead. Do you think they are a substitute for all white sneakers and can be just as versatile (from a style and fashion perspective) or do the suede paneling and gum sole limit its versatility? Would love to get some feedback!
Those look a lot like the Beckett Simonon Morgen Classic shoes. Do you own a pair? I wonder how they compare as the Morgen Classics are only $149 and you can use a discount code.
All of them are "replicas" of the OG German Army Trainer created for the German Army - www.valetmag.com/style/products/2018/german-army-trainer-sneaker-111318.php
@@floridaboy386 Oliver Cabell was founded in 2016... Margiela has been making GATs for close to 20 years. That being said, neither really copied the other, since the GAT silhouette is literally a shoe created for the German army.
I purchased these after watching this video and I have to admit I’m very disappointed. The shoes smelled like chemicals out of the box, and back suede tab is poorly made. It is not really visible in the video but partially glued onto the leather which leaves it flapping off the overall silhouette of the shoes and is susceptible to dirt and other debris getting between. It detached further with a slight pull.
Hey Joon! Scott, founder of Oliver Cabell here. Thanks for the feedback. I sent you an email on this to give a bit more insight. Here's a quick recap - "We wanted to create a seamless heal that added a bit of a dimension, beyond a standard stitched heal tab like we have on the Low 1. With this we decided to go with a more labor intensive approach, which we skive a piece of leather and use a unique stitching technique to secure the heal tab on the ankle line. We use a light amount of glue at the top of the heal tab to keep the shape at the top of the ankle, but we wanted the leather to be a bit more visible, and stand out by coming off the shoe slightly at the bottom of the tab. I understand this isn’t what you prefer, and I’m sorry that. I just wanted to reassure you that this was a cost savings technique, but something very intentional."
Been a subscriber for awhile but felt it important to mention to other subscribers that while the videos might not be officially sponsored getting product in this case $200 dollar shoes for nothing is a form of payment. I don't necessarily have a problem with it as long as people keep this in mind. This is unlike an outfit like consumer reports that buys their own stuff anonymously and reviews a product. (It's much harder to review a product and say it's shit if it really is when you have been given something of value for nothing..) In this video for example a conclusion was made that these may be his favorite sneakers out of all he's tried.. Really? The shoes look hardly worn yet they are the best ever? I'm not trying to knock Jon as much as make subscribers aware not to follow recommendations blindly or just mind the source... He does as good a job if not better then anyone else but impartiality is extremely difficult on TH-cam and unfortunately it's also the most important....
You're totally right Ahmad and I always make it a point to mention that I either purchased the product or it was sent to me. I wish to one day have the resources to fully purchase everything but I do retain as much independence as possible. With any of these unboxings I try to wear the shoes for a few hours around the studio to make sure I get a good initial feeling for them and in this case the molded footbed feels unlike any other sneakers I have tried on (including all of the ones from the recent round-up) so these are going right on the feet for my week long trip with no hesitation. In any case, any free product that is sent is subject to a full review which I can and do say my unfiltered thoughts. I am working on a garment bag roundup as I type that follows the round-up formula and going forward I am trying to move away from unboxings and more full detailed reviews, round-ups, and lookbooks. Trying to evolve the channel now that I have a formula I'd like to repeat and I am finding my voice as a reviewer. Thank you for subscribing and supporting :-)
The Kavalier Jon thx for the thoughtful follow up..One question before I let you go.. Do you think they are more comfortable then the Crown Northampton sneakers? Best, Ahmad
Tough tone. This one is a molded feel but solid bottom, the crowns have a very cushioned footbed but is wider so if I could take this upper and put it on that footbed it would be the GOAT not just GAT
LMAO. If I had a $1 for every time you said, " This is possibly my new favorite shoe" I'd probably have about $10. Haha They do look nice, but as I have commented on other shoes, I'll bet they have no arch support. I could only hope they would, because I like the look and maybe even the 'smell' of the shoes. o_O
These are so ugly. Adidas has the best looking ones, far more refined looking and just like the real GATs. It's crazy that people are paying boot money for ugly versions of a perfectly good and affordable trainer.
How’s the sizing?
Thought I mentioned that! Right in line with their other styles so this one fits just like the Low 1 which for me is a 45 in both
@@The_Kavalier, I don t understand what that means. Do they fit true to size?

Would also look good with horizontal laces!

You mentioned they were slim. Do you mean narrow? The silhouette looks a bit narrow for anyone with wide feet or a very high arch.
Could you do an updated review of these vs the Beckett Simonon Morgen Trainers? Those two seem to be the best options
I wonder how they compare with the Beckett Simenon and the Maison Magiella shoes??
Oliver candlle is best especially compare to Beckett Simenon

Beckett Simonon did a GAT sometime back, of similar quality based on the description. Did you happen to have a comparison with those?

what the sizing compare to the koio capri
