I have an LG. Had it almost 10 years. Works great. Takes up about a 1foot x 1 foot space. Easy to install. Almost 0 maintenance and no heavy lifting to get it in a window. I am handicapped so this works great.

But the size is so small that I thought it should be able to be powered by Big power bank (Jackery, Big Blue...etc that have 200 watt +) in a tent. Thanks anyway, I'm sure I can find out of this particular model when I research at LG.

Good unbiased comments... Of course a pro for the portable unit is that it`s portable . I would create a window attachment for another room like a bedroom at night so it would be easy to move the unit to another room as needed.

I have a Portable Toshiba 12000 btu AC unit that i just bought and it works great as of right now. Gets the room from 80 or maybe 81 all the way down to 70. I wish I had found your video sooner! I bought an LG 6000, but your instructions are better for my unit than what I found from LG. Your adapters look just like mine. I found the hardest part was threading the adapters onto the flexible hose at both ends. I really wanted to watch someone do this, and that is what I value the most about your video, but it is all excellent. I'm a 68-year-old woman, so lifting a window style A/C in and out for the seasons was not an option for me. The LG I bought does come with security latches. I loved what you did with the foam insulation.
My central air outside fan stopped spinning, so I replaced the capacitor, but that did not fix it, so this was an affordable alternative. It will be nice to have a backup, even after I get the central air fixed. Thanks for this! Great job!

Do these cool a room well. My central ac has a refrigerant leak in its suction hose and won't hold any refrigerant at all and the ac tech said that they would need to run a new suction line through attic and they want 1200 dollars to do that. So I'm asking you if these kinds of a portable acs do actually cool a room well? Thanks in advance

    • @rpeek
      @rpeek 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@VioletHeyoka No. The vent sends out hot air so if it wasn't vented to the outside the machine would be blowing cold air out the front and hot air out the back, defeating the purpose of cooling a space. It doesn't have to be a window. I cut a hole in a wall and put mine in the garage and I cut a hole in the floor and to vent one I put in a camper. Good luck with yours.

Toshiba makes one identical to that but the tube you do not have to thread in its already got a ring attachment that Clips on to the attachment that Clips onto the air conditioner and when you want to take it down or out it dismantles very quick and easy by just pushing on the clips with a hose connection in hose dismantles everything comes off and you can put it up for the season and comes with remote timer sleep mode and you can't angle your vent electronically with the remote or why it runs it remotely goes back and forth on its own so it's not just facing the one direct Direction it goes up and down towards the ceiling back towards waist level so you can either have it on one set angle or you can let it run on its own and it blows back and forth from the ceiling all the way down to waist level check it out it's a really good machine

Everything is the same including the remote, except the control buttons on the unit are colored differently for the B&D branding. It cools a room well enough, but forget about sleeping in that room when its on. Its LOUD.

remember, the fan and compressors are LOUD, when i was at this house tent place for 2 days it had an ac, it didnt cool the tent well enough, because no insulation, the air handler is quiet but the evaporater is buzzy, whenever my parents ac is on the outside unit is super quiet, Samsung, if there ever a samsung portable ac, maybe its compressor will be more quiet

I’ve had Toshiba, Black&Decker, and Midea.
The Midea wins out by far. Something about that hose, it intakes from the outside instead of the room. Keeps our 400sq ft master room at 63degrees all night in the Texas heat. My central air was costing too much for the entire upper floor. This works faster and costs less.

I wonder why this guy is complaining about not having a window unit when this portable unit is specifically made to move around! The window units are stationary… They are completely different categories of machines. It’s almost like eating an apple and complaining that you’re not eating an orange… Get the orange if you want it!
These units are almost perfect for what they do. The maker of this video was complaining about this portable unit with its compressor inside which make the unit work harder because of the extra heat…so? Bottom line: if taken care of these machines will last 5 to 10+ years without any problems. These are absolutely solid machines and they’re work horses! They will run forever. And the best part is they will quickly cool a 500-700 square foot room (depending on BTU model) with a comparable quality of a modern luxury hotel room. And that’s not an exaggeration!

My unit is a Black and Decker 12,000BTU and I love it! I have central AC but use this to save electricity (1000w vs 2300w). Portability is the main MAIN reason I bought a...portable unit. I could run mine in a tent if I needed to. I have a small house (1200sqf) and this makes most of the house comfortable, with the living room getting cold. Fans do the job and use 120w combined.
My goal is also to use this when they play shenanigans this coming summer here in Kalifornia with power. I have 7200 w of battery storage so I can run this 3/4 of the day, allowing for recharging via sun and duel-fuel generator.

I have a LG portable air conditioner and it does okay but I think window ac units are really probably the better choice for more efficient cooling a room. I've noticed when the temperature and humidity are really high the portable ac units struggle to cool off a room.

There's a motor inside that splashes the condensed water around, and thats how the water gets thrown out as "Humid air" via the vent. I have had mine stick meaning that I had to take the thing to pieces. It's imperative the unit is drained and washed out before laying up.
I use my unit for dehumidifying so its a bit of a bear to constantly drain the small tank inside.

I had one similar and I don't like it for one reason. The exhaust hose gets very hot and all the heat gets sucked back into the AC make it very inefficient. I wrapped some tick towels around the hose and held with some elastics. I was able to reduced the exhaust heat by 90%. Also, I put the AC on a stand where the exhaust hose is completely horizontal and short with no bends at all, this makes the heat to escape quickly. I'm puzzle the manufacture can't think of this problem and do something about it.

I live in a small bedroom with a bed and a tv that barely fit there. The summer was long and hot, 95 degrees Fahrenheit average on the week.
I bought this small unit and guess what this thing was warming up my room even more. It leaks water and makes a lot of noise. Takes a ton of space and that tube in the back is the biggest pain ever. I bought the 10k BTU.

Another drawback is that it actually sucks hot air into your house or apartment. A window unit has two fans, one to suck air from the room through a filter, and then through the cooling fins, and then blow it back into your room. The other fan is outside the building, and it blows outside air through the fins that are dissipating the heat from inside. But the Black and Decker sucks cooled air from inside the room and blows it outside. It creates a negative pressure inside, and so air from outside will be sucked into your place through any way it can get in. Plus, the hose also gets warm and radiates heat into the room. However, I have been using one to cool my entire apartment and it blows hella cold air, and is keeping my place cool despite the 100+ temps outside.

  • @trumpingtonfanhurst694
