    A Minnesota 2 cents. We have no hive beetles here. So adding pollen sub to us depends on how well insulated and strong the hives are. Last week with 2 feet of snow and ice, we put both syrup bags and pollen sub patties in. The bees typically leave the patties alone until they are ready. But at least now we have them available. Which is why we will even put them in late in the Fall. Those hives always seem to come out in the spring the strongest. Thanks J!

      Your lucky to not have SHB, they suck to battle. So you add your patties before you see pollen coming in? Interesting! That would scare me. lol Glad you've found a system that works though.

    I put pollen powder out in my pollen feeder. The bees here in Central Indiana were all over the red Maples.
    Since the feeder is out in the open, the foragers have to bring it in.
    I won’t put pollen Pattie’s in until I do a full inspection.
    Thank you for all your hard work. We appreciate what you do!!!!

    Neighbors cut some trees and the bees went after the sap and sawdust so I decided to start giving them some dry pollen sub.

    Smart way to use qr code. I use qr codes as well in work presentations for folks to capture contact info or other important info....instead of using legacy technology of writing it down on piece of paper that might get lost.

    Hey Jason, I am that 2nd year be keeper lol I am concerned about a sustained cold snap now that i have seen some pollen coming in the last couple times they could fly. i'm in the mansfield area. I still think I'm going to hold off for a little while on the sup. Also if you take a screen shot of one of your videos from your phone with the QR code, you can bring that photo up with a QR app and get the link that way. Of course like you said some people would have trouble with the tech side of it. I watched Bob Binnie earlier he's planning for early swarms, definitely a different climate but I think everyone is a little ahead this year with mostly warmer weather. I mean I saw my bees flying on February 15 that's crazy to me. have a good one, forecast is still looking good for this time of year around here.

      Hello Rich. Manfeild, huh? That's where my daughter moved to a year ago. She's about 1.5 hours from me. I wouldn't worry too much about the little bit of pollen coming into the hives. It without a patty is probably not enough to make the queen go too crazy laying. I imagine they will be able to cover a small amount of brood pretty easily. As for syrup, I would surely hold off. It can add moisture to the inside of the colony and you don't need that.
      Good to know about the QR code app, I had no idea. I agree, there will be swarming early this year. Crazy weather!!
      Have you noticed any side effects of the derailed train in your area? Just curious. What mess!!

      @@JCsBees I haven't seen anything or heard of anything... yet. I work in knox county which is a little closer, haven't heard about anything down that way either. I have some hivealive fondant on for emergency. Also added 4 medium frames of extra wide honey that I saved in a freezer over winter.(I found out you can't "checkerboard" honey frames) I only have 2 hives a 10 frame double deep and a 5 frame double deep. I was starting to see more bees on the top bars of the 5 framer so i decided they needed their honey more than me. lol Not planning on putting on any syrup for a while either (mainly just to get more drawn frames, still light in that area) lived here long enough to know winter isn't done yet. Good Luck to you!

    Hi Jason, I went completely through my dead hive, found the queen dead with the rest, I seen plenty food stores.
    But only around 6 brood, no eggs.
    Should have seen more eggs or brood.
    Bee's died first of winter, and they had eaten about 1/3 of a Hive Alive patty.
    So confusing.
    Great video today.

    Not my cup of tea Jason…..but I’m sure there’s lots of folks that will participate…..far too much commercialization already for products that don’t deliver throughout our country….I enjoy your shared beekeeping experiences…

      I appreciate your honestly, Ed. Some folks get really confused when I tell them I shared a link in the description. Just trying to make it easier for them.
      I am curious what you mean by "products that don’t deliver throughout our country"? HiveAlive is widely available in the USA. Matter a fact, with the best of my knowledge I believe every product I've ever mentioned is available here. If not, then please point them out so I can remove them.
      I enjoy reading your comments so I hope the QR code don't chase you away. Take care and enjoy the weather today....storms tomorrow.

    I think hive alive may not be set up for debit cards. I ordered their fondant from a third party and installed fondant and pollen patties on all my hives week and ½ ago. Guess I can expect more winter losses now.

    • @JCsBees
      @JCsBees  ปีที่แล้ว

      So you had trouble buying Hive Alive with your debit card? That's very strange! I would try again because that doesn't sound right. Why do you except more losses now? Is the fondant no good?

    • @davidlewis4179
      @davidlewis4179 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JCsBees I did just what you suggested not to do. I added ML pollen patties too. And of course the temperature has dropped back to season norms. I do have 1" foam board wrapped around my vertical hives so it might be a mute point.
