Members of the ARP are known as frogmen, and their mission is comparable to that of the US Navy SEALs. The ARP is the most elite unit within the ROC Marine Corps, and the entire ROC Marine Corps is considered an elite force. Reconnaissance and underwater demolition teams are both operated by the ARP.
The ARP provides three months of training to new personnel of the Coast Guard's Special Task Unit, followed by two months with the Republic of China Military Police Special Services Company. - บันเทิง

As a Taiwanese in a western army, I think this is more of a tradition than training. Not very effective on the battle field but good for them for being able to do it. I sure wouldent want to do that shit.

It's the same as log PT, boat PT, etc etc. You'd never use these in combat. But it's there to weed out the people who want to be there, and the people who REALLY want to be there

This is (I have to admit) seriously awful to watch. Although I could never physically DO what they're doing, I CAN relate with the suffering of extreme pain. I've been diagnosed with both chronic & acute pain, after complications arose from major surgery I've had done (complications that have left me bed-bound, passing blood & clots every day that I empty my bladder; which only happens once a day, when I squeeze my gut to empty it) ... pain? Many people are lucky never to know what such pain is like... 😓
