To get the beat easily is better use the fingers,i tried the two ways, flat pick and fingers, the thumbpick doesn't work with me,yet, with this type of blues
I've never tried a thumbpick, getting better with picking a flat, mostly thumb and fingers. I sure like your lessons! I learn more about the blues with every one. Thank you!
Best off Mr.Blues-thank's for that fantastick Blues-i'm a beginner from Germany with a deep dark soul😊and favorit is old style from 30''s to 50's and also Cajun-Bluegrass-Reaggy-and all the Musik that touch my Heart ✌☻☮
Hey John, the last I tried to play this, I couldn’t. Now I’ve picked up easily and it’s time to play around with it and add stuff. It’s fun, thanks for your time to put it together.
Most of these blues "teachers" start off quite well and then go on to show us just how clever they are. BGI are just the opposite. At last, someone who just wants to show us how it's done, and how to do it! Many thanks!
I don't know how you did it but you found my learning curve. Plus, I had some lion's mane yesterday so it helps me to understand better. Thank you for showing me this as its more close to my speed.
I had to laugh out loud because nobody has been able to teach me. I yelled out, hush, with a big grin cause it made sense finally. I have a cognitive disorder so when I'm able to learn, its neat. You show the tab in a way I understand too.
@@BluesGuitarInstitute, yeah it is. In 25 years I'm still a novice but I can pick up advanced skills if the right teacher comes along. For instance, I can play, A Solin, by Peter, Paul and Mary but I know no song's other than that one.
Start playin' 4 years ago-see a lot of tutorials- but really youre channel is the best couse you show it simple and in an easy way-Thank you for all these wonderfull lessons ✌☻☮Let it Roll and stay sick 😊✌☮
I'm a finger picker, generally with just my thumb and forefinger... Just sort of learned it that way from the beginning and no one ever told me I should try something different :-) But, I've been trying out the thumb pick method lately and really liking it. This is a great, simple lesson that is fun to play around with! Thank you!
love your style. great lesson. thank you. i play all three, but not the greatest. i like finger pickin, find picks loud but effective, finger picks are nice but can get tangled. hope we can use all three... sometimes i only use mostly my thumb...depends
I use a soft Triangular flat pick. If by chance of it breaking I can quickly turn it to a new side. Mostly spend my time turning my guitar upside down trying to get the pick out of the sound hole LOL
always like yr lessons .. not too difficult ... I've bren playing a long time (sporadically) so these suit my level AND sound good.. thumbpick is easiest although o can adapt to fingerprinting after my thumb nail regrows... nice easy lesson.. thx
I've got a thumb pick around here somewhere, but have never gotten comfortable with it. I should probably give it another try. I tend to either flat pick or fingerpick. I think I prefer the fingerpicking, I have never had to spend twenty minutes trying to shake my fingers out of the soundhole of the guitar like I have with a flat pick. This one I think I am going to work on in all three picking styles.
I hear you, Danbgt. I normally go with my bare fingers, but pull out the thumbpick occasionally. I only pull out a flatpick next to a campfire these days :)
Great lesson as usual thanks....btw. I pick with artificial fingernails...Fingerstyle...And when the nails are broken, I switch to the pieces with plek!...flat pick... Greetings from🇨🇭
Another great lesson John. I can {almost} play it....Not quite like you but getting there... I am doing it finger picking but would like to work on the thumb pick.
After finally getting thumb independence and sanding down the point of a Dunlop medium thumb pick to where only about 1/4" sticks out. I don't use a thumb pick for this type of playing blues. If I play Lightning Hopkins I use a thumb pick
Nice lesson with great options for different styles and future improvisation. I do all three styles, but this last year really working on thumbpick. I like the thumb pick for getting that Mance Lipscomb damped thump bass sound which really improved my timing and could be the part B for this lesson. I find the ergonomics better for my arthritis with the thumb pick, but some of my old songs, I cannot transition to the thumb pick easily, so I do it all. For those just trying to learn the thumbpick, the white fred kelly thumb pick, the narrow "speedpick" was the best at first, but now I like the orange fred kelly TP with the stubby short thick pick the best and it flat picks well when you want to strum. Dunlops never stayed on good for me and were too tight.
Hey Bill! Thanks for the comment, I think while I have my favorite style (all bare fingers) I really try to keep my skills up on all three like you mentioned.
Nice lick John.. .what model is your Larivee? I love the binding....nice tone too! I wear a thumbpick 90% of the time....have one in my pocket at all times. Just seems natural to me.. .bare fingers and thumpick
Cool, Gibby. I definitely love the sharper attack you can get with a thumbpick. I'm playing an OM-09. The binding is flamed Maple and it's one thing I love about this guitar.
Don't know man sounds a bit weak..I mean Delta's normally pretty dynamic. The strumming patterns forcefull and not complex. This is in the realms of "Got up this morning believe I dust my broom "but thought maybe drag a damp rag over the sideboard instead but decided to go back to bed anyways.
Alright BGI, what's your "go-to" picking method? Fingerstyle? Thumbpick? Flatpick?
Blues Guitar Institute Flat pick for me now as I’m a beginner on the guitar at 58, but would like to finger pick at some point. Thanks for the lesson.
I used flat pick on this
To get the beat easily is better use the fingers,i tried the two ways, flat pick and fingers, the thumbpick doesn't work with me,yet, with this type of blues

Hands down the best blues teacher on the web! I watch your videos more than anything else I watch on TH-cam
Blake, dude that's great to hear! I'm glad the videos are helping. Play On! 👍🎸👍
This really is a great easy start up lesson on some Delta Blues Strumming - thx
After 5 years of playing, I found this the most straightforward and “easiest” way to learn!
just brilliant,,,,thank you so much,,,,finger picker here.....a bit of claw picking, but just so good,,,,,Some new practices to do......
Most of these blues "teachers" start off quite well and then go on to show us just how clever they are. BGI are just the opposite. At last, someone who just wants to show us how it's done, and how to do it! Many thanks!
Thanks Robert. I really appreciate that. i felt the same way when I was getting started. Cheers!
amazing, thank you!!!
Glad you liked it!
First good video I have found on playing this sound of the blues. Now finally I can play it and having a lot of fun.
Bill Paxton, this channel is great. Picking up so many riffs.
Yes indeed John you the man...
Thanks, John. I dig the history you blend in with the lessons. Former exclusive flat picker, now getting the hang of fingerpicking.
Thank you for this lesson. Flat picker here! Love this because you got me playing... That's exactly what I need. YOU ROCK! Thanks again.
I use a large triangle pick for this
Thank you for the lessons learned ✌️💜🎸🎶
Great video, very practical and helpful building blocks!
I’ve been playing for a few years now and have falling in love with learning to play delta slide blues. Thanks for the easy lesson
Happy to help! Cheers, Kevin!
Another great video, a super catchy song and clear instructions. Tuesday blues are by far my favorite guitar videos, maybe even youtube videos
Learning this finger style
Another really cool lesson, thanks!
Thanks.
Thanks for the tips. Strictly fingers here. Never got the hang of picks.
Thank you know what I will do this weekend 👍😊
Right on, Aage!
Great lesson finger picker all the way.
It's great to get the backbone of the delta blues, I've tried to get that while playing slide and got lost quite a bit. Thanks!
Briliant lesson
Fairly easy, and a great lesson, THANKS A LOT
Thanks for watching, Ludomir!
Flat pick on this just seems to bring out the best in this

Lion's Mane blues! 👍
@@BluesGuitarInstitute lol! Got that right!
Mostly travis fingerpicking with some flat pick. Never got the hang of a thumb pick. Great clear lesson
Just stumbled on a few of your videos and I am so impressed. Excellent lesson, thanks.
I LIKE THE REGULAR PICK.

Hi John, I'm a finger picker, and have embarked on learning to flatpick. This is an awesome lesson. Thank you!
I use a thumb pick, a Fred Kelly Bumblebee, it allows me to switch between strumming and finger picking on the fly. I bet you’d love it!
I'm a finger picker, generally with just my thumb and forefinger... Just sort of learned it that way from the beginning and no one ever told me I should try something different :-) But, I've been trying out the thumb pick method lately and really liking it.

Glad you liked it and thanks for the comment, Jeremy. All the best! John
Thank you man , nice little ditty , explained very clearly ! I’m a thumb and finger man 😂 can’t use a pick
love your style. great lesson. thank you. i play all three, but not the greatest.

Thanks for the cool blues. I learn everyday. It takes time and relaxing a bit. I'm too nervous sometimes, I'm not "cool"... Thanks for sharing!!! 🎶💙
I think you are cool - only people with heart and soul and an open mind can feel & play the Blues ! That's cool ✌😊☮

Great sound john!
Thanks for sharing
Adan!! Thanks for the comment and for watching my friend!
Love this lesson, thank you
Thank you, Paul! Appreciate the comment.
Awesome and useful! I can already see a porch in the swamps 😁
Yes sir. Perfect for the porch, Dario!

Thin flat pic, great lesson, great pace!
Just started using a thumb pick, but usually use plain finger style for practice.
Great 👍👏👏
Thanks, John! Appreciate the comment!
Learning to use a thumb pick, lost to many fat picks s when I lapse into fingerpicking, thank for the help
Yasss! This is what I gotta get!

That's funny, Robin. I feel the same way. Searching for a flat pick used to cut into my practice time :)
More of Delta Plz
Cool! Love the thumb pick. I’m a fingerpicker. Can use a thumb pick but just can’t get the hang of a flat pick.

I have a really cheap dobro that I mess with occasionally. The thumb pick and metal finger picks are a real stumper.
Thanks John, fun stuff and not that difficult, especially the way you teach it. Never can find my thumb pick so use my flat pick
Great lesson! You really break it down in a clear way. Just subscribed - will check out your other lessons. Thanks from Phoenix, Arizona.
Love your teaching style. Big fan! I am very clumsy with a pic so I use my fingers most of the time.
Coming from a classical background I just use my thumb at different angles for the tones that I need. Always look forward to your lessons
Very cool, Randolf. Pretty cool how little adjustments like you mention can make such a difference. Thanks for watching!
Another great lesson John. I can {almost} play it....Not quite like you but getting there... I am doing it finger picking but would like to work on the thumb pick.

makes sense...i put mine on to play Lightnin's stuff too. I love his style...so raw and real
Thanks for this one...it's a really good metronome exercise.
Right on, Bryan! I agree and good luck with the metronome.
There's a rumor that if a METRONOME is out of time CALL RINGO STARR
great lesson. I'm a thumb pick guy.
Really like this lesson and style of Delta blues. Flat pick for me, never tried a thumb pick.
Is that a VHS tape on the table?
Great lesson, thanks!
Thanks, Steve and yes that's a vhs of one of my first bands back when I was in high school. no vcr around but I still have the tape! Play On!

I fingerpick with and without a Thumbpick. Depends up on the song style. :)
Finger pickin' John, but I try to stay fluid on flat and thumb. Cheers
I do finger style with or without a thumb pick, and use a flat pick as well. Trying to perfect all three styles...
Hey Bill! Thanks for the comment, I think while I have my favorite style (all bare fingers) I really try to keep my skills up on all three like you mentioned.
Can you show us Texas style blues
I prefer the flesh of my fingers but plan on using thumb pick at some point. BTW, great lesson John!!
meeeetooooo
Overall, I do too and as Robin said below, I never waste anytime looking for my fingers :)
Nice sound to your delta blues lesson John!
I have used a flat pick in the past, but now finger pick. Mostly thumb and index fingers. ..👋
Cool, Don. Thanks for chiming in my friend!
Flat pick for me👍
Okay another fantastic video but what is that guitar it’s beautiful
Thanks, Rob. it's a Larrivée OM-09. It's my #1.
Fingers only. I never have developed the feeling that a thumb pick is a ‘part’ of me. And a pick is just too loud!
I am with my fingers. Can't even use picks anymore
Finger pick no thumb pick my thumb wants to get a bit heavy so I don't use the thumb pick.
Fingers but experimenting with the pick
Ah yes the e major chord. I need to learn what that means before I start I guess.
And finger placement.
Nice lick John.. .what model is your Larivee? I love the binding....nice tone too! I wear a thumbpick 90% of the time....have one in my pocket at all times. Just seems natural to me.. .bare fingers and thumpick

Fingerpicking, no pick or thumb pick. clean & mean lol
I like it, Greg. That's my "go to" and couldn't have said it better :)
Flat pick but trying to use bare fingers
Ok, What's the guitar model you are playing...?
Larravie OM-9. Great guitar. I used to own the same model. Great tone and action right out of the box
The new clip on pick
It makes me pick better and you can't drop it.
I love the not dropping it part. So true!
I just use my fingers because my children like to take my thumb picks.
that happens to me too...
Don't use a pick at all. Did for 20 yrs but gave it up, about 5 yrs ago and never went back.
I went a decade or so without touching one, but now I’m 90% fingerstyle, 10% pick.
FLATPICK
why you use thumbpick and stick it with your index, it's wired, dude. It's not independent of your thumb.
