- Archie Macpherson is a bonafide Scottish Football icon having began his career as a broadcaster with the BBC over 60 years ago.
His time in the game has brought him into close contact with many legendary figures - including some of the greatest Celts of all time - and in part 2 of our exclusive 3 part series he shares his experiences of being in Lisbon for the greatest day in Celtic's history!
In his role as a commentator for the BBC Archie made his way to Portugal alongside thousands of Celtic fans where he would play his own unique role in covering the game in person at Estadio Nacional.
Its an experience he describes as "overwhelming" and as you'll hear it's one which very nearly didn't happen for the budding young broadcaster - but thankfully for Archie, and now for us, his persistence paid off!
This is the re-telling of a very special story in our history from Archie's own unique perspective and one which we're sure Celtic supporters of all ages will enjoy.
🎙️ Join Tino for Part 2 of this special mini-series with broadcaster, writer and Scottish Football icon Archie Macpherson.

Archie you were the best commentator in my life. Im 60 and as an 18 yr old . i mind in the jungle everyone singing archie archie give us a wave. You were loved. You were the golden boot of commentary Archie. Stay safe and Enjoy youre retirement . hail hail
@@robertcanning1888 Always remember the Celtic support being more fond of Arthur Montford as the commentator and cameras gantry hung over the jungle. Archie was considered the ‘ Blue Nose’ back in the day.
@Robert this is a brilliant comment and I sent it over to Archie directly.
He replied: 'Robert, that means a lot to me. Many thanks!'
I was there in the jungle same age. Thanks Archie.
Love Archie. I used tae stand at Number 8 in the Jungle. That man took some shit, ALWAYS with a smile .. brilliant guy .. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
@@TheCelticExchange Thats made my week mate. Im also from Shettleston lol. Thanks
Was in Trondhiem for our game against Rosenberg. Sitting in a bar a few hours before the game big Billy and Archie walked past looking absolutely freezing. Think they off shopping for thermals. It was Baltic and even colder at the game, plus we were rotten.
😂 Archie speaks fondly of those commentary days with Billy @John
Archie was magnificent, I always thought he spoke highly of Celtic.
Cheers Thomas, he was brilliant! 🙌
Tremendous memories brought to life 🍀brilliant once again

Fantastic - many's a time I was in the Jungle below Archie, as he walked out the gantry to the commentary box - the crowd always sang his name - he was different gravy as regards his football commentary and knowledge - I hope he has many happy years of retirement ahead of him.

Fascinating chat. Loved the insights into the club at time. Didn’t realise Big jock didn’t celebrate the victory at the time. One question though, what the hell is an Indian Brush?
😂 We're still trying to work that out @henrik 😉
Excellent again Tino :) I’m actually reading that Jimmy McGrory book just now. Looking forward to the next show mate. Thanks HH UTLR
Great stuff @magnet Its a brilliant book. I couldn't quite recall the author when speaking to Archie but its John Cairney, who sadly passed away just in September.

What a disgrace that the BBC hijacked a Scottish team getting to the European Cup final by as Archie says sending Kenneth Wolstenholme who didn't even know about Celtic
Yeh sounds like Archie was doing a lot of the heavy lifting there. Though he spoke very highly of Kenneth Wolstenholme in general 👍
Archie wae that half and half top lol
