What I hate about watching the Friday vid on Monday is that I have to wait for next week to see more of those great videos you create for us. Thank you for every minute of that good stuff!
Hi john from uk ,as a fitter I looked after 2 of these machines, you will never stop it leaking as the hydraulic system runs too hot , the best way to deal with that lemon is a viking funeral.
I really appreciate you splitting megaseries like these down into specific subjects rather than "here's what I did this week/month". It's nice to be able to see a single problem seen through from diagnosis to fix (presumably, I'm only at 3:00), in one video, rather than trying to keep track of "LAST TIME, ON YU-GI-OH" style behaviour.
Jon, for what it is worth, I think you did the right thing getting the new radiator, expensive as it was and I’m pretty sure the boys at Area Diesel Services would be pleased to after basically rebuilding the turbo to as new condition. You have just about got a bullet proof cooling system now that is clean and able to do a better job of heat transfer. Great content as always and also sorry about Big Mama, always sad when you loose favourites, I lost two cows in one season to snake bites, real bummer. Top vlog mate
For future reference, a $10 kiddie pool (the blue round molded plastic ones) are great for large format “leak detection vessels” also you can just make a box frame of 2x6,2x8’and drape plastic in it as a field expedient “pond”. Don’t even need a bottom. Love the Content!
I must admit, ive epoxied an ac condenser. i ordered one from Usa to Sweden and the carrier damaged it. then i waited for the replacement and it looked fine but as i pressure tested the system with nitrogen it had an leak from a factory defect.... it was peak summer in Sweden and i really didnt want to wait for a third condenser so i epoxied it and the system is still cooling perfect 12 years later 🤣 im not proud of the repair but sometimes bad repairs become permanent repairs when they work😆
I like the temporary fixes that you "just try" because you can't get something quickly and ten years later... To be ideal they should involve gaffer tape and plastic metal ! (you should always keep a nearly empty can of plastic metal around)
@@CrimeVid Yup, i have an chinese 2011 700cc atv and i bought it cheap with a broken gearbox. i tig welded a cracked bearing carrier in the gearbox housing and also tig welded on new material on the dog ring teeth as they had become to worn and slipped out of gear (causing the secondary shaft to brake the bearing carrier). everyone said it wouldnt hold up more then 50 shifts without heat threating the dog rings but i made the repair 6-7 years ago and its still running strong. i use it to plow my business parking lot and to tow cars into my shop and i have probably done 10.000 shifts since the repair 🤣 i would have bought the replacement parts but the atv maker went out of business in 2014.
I hope you and yours are happy and healthy after the passage of Helene. She really tore up northeast Tennessee, even tearing the "B" off of the Bristol Motor Speedway sign. As always, excellent video.
Another great video Jon, you are the most patient person I know. RIP big Mamma. I love the way Dozer wanders up to each cow and says hello, Hey you know about hydraulic wrenches right? One end has a 90degree much like a crows foot, the other end is a 45 open end, I think Matco makes them, but I imagine everyone does. They are so good for getting to those fittings.
I'm very sorry for the loss of your four-footed family member "Big Momma". I'm sure her life was a great one, as cows go, and she received lots of love throughout her time with you. Congrats on the great repair of "Large Marge"; may her oil stay clean, cool, and inside her!
Close to 500K.... You deserve it!.... Making the $2k choice was the right choice. Time is money, and if you count for the time and effort it would take to do a fix for five hundred dollars and do that 2 or three times... $2k is not that bad. It's a lot of money you invest but if you get her to run for only 5 more years it will be worth every penny.... The dog: 13 years and the energy of a puppy... That dog is happy!!!
Love watching your video's!! I'm always impressed at your diagnosis and problem solving skills. As a Diesel Fitter of around 40 odd years, I'd like to offer a suggestion, whenever fitting O rings, lip seals, hydraulic cylinder seals, or almost any kind of oil seal, it's a good idea to add a smear of 'assembly' grease (actually, any kind of grease or oil is better than going together dry) to the seal mating surfaces. It tends to help them seal and makes them last a lot longer. Thank you for sharing your video's, I'm enjoying your journey immensely!! 🙂
I just almost got crushed by my tractor and trailer , ran away on my and I jumped onto the hitch, went downhill until we crashed in the ditch. Tractor somehow fine, trailer is pretty screwed, I'm beat to hell, gonna have a beer and watch farm craft
My favorited channel. Like a kid waiting for Looney Tunes on Saturday morning, I sit eagerly anticipating the next episode; Kool-Aid in one hand and my Little-Tikes tool kit in the other.
I have never, and will probably never, worked on these big machines; but the tricks I picked up from this channel are invaluable. Like grinding out the oil cooler holes to fit the studs
Another great video. However, our boy John gets all credit. Time to give Jennifer her due. From her winning assist with oil lines, to allowing John to put in the time and effort to keep us happy as well. Behind every great TH-camr, is a great spouse. Thanks Jen!
Thanks for taking the time to show us the inside of the radiator, to see what it looks like IRL. Man, your constant battle with those darn seals and leaks! Entertaining nonetheless with your persistence and style :) Thanks
I think Engine and hydraulic was first and second priority. Functionality before beauty. Ask any farmer. The operator cabin will definitely get new glass.
I'm never going to do 99% of what you share with us on this channel, but I have such appreciation for this type of content and the way you produce it - I watch nearly every video in full.
The only thing bad about this video is it was short! I really like this channel, easy to relate to a farmer with no specialty tools. Mr Jon I appreciate the content, highly recommend this channel!!!
I have fixed Car/Truck radiators (Last Century) using heat, Blow torch they were all soldiered together. I lived in same City where "Blackstone Radiators" were made, had a couple friends who worked there and clued me in on the heat the soldier trick.
Very impressed Jon with cleaning and end repairs. I will be happy to see Marge start paying her way. RIP Big Mama, she was always a wonderful side bar in your videos. Thank you! KC
Nice repair. I have found if I have a bolt hole that needs to be offset I drill a hole in a piece of scrap and clamp over the hole where i want it. Then drill through the scrap. Works great to control the hole to where I want it. Thought I would see you make a wrench to fit large nut, maybe crows foot? Always Enjoy the work and EFFORT you put in to the projects. Go Marge!!!
WooHoo! A Farmcraft101 video! Thanks for sharing this with us, Jon. Starting a running commentary. • I wonder why there's a cloth shroud on that. Is it just about providing a tunnel to move hot air from the machine? • Ewwwww, icky. • Yeah, that wire grid IS disgusting. • Pullin' hard with the nut rounder wrench. Best of luck with that • WooHoo! Got the first one! • Heh. Go, go air hammer! • Quite a difference in cleanliness between the clean side and the schmoo side of that hydraulic cooler. • It leaks. I didn't realize that cow's were "old" at 13. Good to see that Little Mama is doing okay. • Paisley like new oil cooler. • Snazzy new oil cooler, all mounted up. • It's good to see that you have the new hydraulic oil cooler system all installed. . . and it's not leaking. • How does it function, Jon? Is it running alright? Is is cooling properly? 👍 🤞 😵 🙂 😃 😉 😋 🤪 😂 😢 😵 🤕 🤮 🥳
Just love watching you work. Always learning something from your ventures. This week I learned how to call out bearing dimensions from the numbers stamped on them. And most importantly MFing chain Wrench!
I think my favolrite part is when you come across a challenge, I always say in my head what I would do. (in the case of the oil cooler hoses, I would have made a "wrench" out of flat bar that would have fit that spot. (via grinding, cutting and welding)) but in the end, the air hammer was WAYYYYYYY faster than my method. and the chain wrench worked getting it on. thanks for the awesome content! thanks for having different ideas for fixing stuff. Ive drawn from your ideas and methods plenty of times. on my own projects. (currently restoring a 62 chevy C10) .
Might have just been camera lense, but that tool cylinder rod looks bent in the last part of your video. I ran one of those 170's when it was brand new in the late 80's, even then hydraulic issues were problematic, after a couple years we traded machine in for Deere and never looked back. There were some features on the Case that were very nice though, very comfortable to sit in all day, loved the heavy lift circuit for setting manholes as the controls were very sensitive for craning operations in standard mode. Thanks for taking me on a trip down memory lane!
You are the most informative guy on TH-cam for mechanical repairs. I will say, however, that I repaired a much larger leak in a dozer hydraulic cooler with JB Weld epoxy. I lost about 4 square inches of cooling area, but it doesn't seem to be a problem and it has lasted 2 years so far. I'm glad to know, however, that I can get a new cooler if I need it. Thanks for all the great information!
Love all videos on large Marge . She’s coming right along. I thinks she deserves some new glass for sure. lol. Can’t wait for your next video. So sorry about the loss of big momma. I know she will be missed for sure.
Hi John. Our favourite You Tube channel. Amazed at your skill set, patience and work ethic. Thanks for posting such interesting and enjoyable as well as informative videos.
Enjoy your videos. Look forward to how you solve the problems that always arise. Those channels are not welded but are extrusions and are known as "micro channel". The technology is relatively new in heat transfer coils. The channels replace copper, brass, or steel tubes.
I would have sourced a custom built heating or cooling coil from the HVAC industry. R410a condenses at more than 300PSI. That wouldn't have cost more than $1000
I take back everything I said, thank you, thank you, thank you! You really came through with all the seal pics I'm feeling better about life now! I can finally move on. But seriously I love the videos thank you very much.
I am enjoying the Large Marge series. You have spent some major money on this machine, but it is greatly improved.Keep up the good work. Can t wait to see her competed
Love your videos🤩 Im looking forward to see the job that large marge is planned to do. Escavator companie hired in compare with repair cost and your own time both repair and using the machine. No matter what the figure saying after the job is done, you have large marge to keep and a ton of cool youtube videos. Greetings from Oslo Norway😊
Bummer obout the cow, I have never seen anyone clean as well as you do. My guess is that by the time you are done with it, it will be a brand new machine! I have not been keeping track of money spent, but i feel you are still way ahead.
You're not allowed to say "seal" without popping up a picture of an actual seal!!! You know better! LOL EDIT- I spoke to soon! You knocked out of the park later in the video! Good job my friend!
Nice job! I totally agree with you with that being a air-cooled engine you didn't want to scrimp on that oil cooler. You have my condolences for Big Mama, 13 years wow. As usual Jon terrific video!
Given the wonderful clearances you deal with, and the fact that you have decent machining tools ... An adjustable wrench can be modified into a crow's foot wrench in the socket size of your choice ... That task might even make a fun video!
I loved the double lipped and the old seals 😂. Nice job as usual John. Sorry to hear about big momma, she was a beautiful old cow with a wonderful temperament.
I can’t begin to express the appreciation for the hard work you put into your channel. I’ve learned so much since watching your videos and look forward to Fridays farmcraft!
Thank you Jon. Another job done, your tenacity makes me look in the mirror and slap myself. Now I'm eagerly waiting to be older by a week, just to see the next chapter. Respect and all the best, you rock. PS: my regards to Dozer and the cows.
Another successful step in getting Large Marge backed to 100%. Maybe it is not important, but I was surprised you didn’t show replacing the cloth shroud. I saw holes in it and figured it would be hard to replace, but maybe it wasn’t a big deal.
I love it when a plan comes together. Great video Jon. LARGE MARGE, really coming along. I think it's going to be a solid piece of equipment when completed, and it provides great content. See you next week.
Great vidjao as always Jon its wonderful that you are bringing this beast back to life its never simple but it's rewarding when it works. Farm life is never boring
Awesome repair! I admire your tenacity whenever you tackle any problems you come up against. Hopefully you don't have to spend too much more on the ol' gal! :)
With that oil leaking the way it was, I was considering sending you a keffiyeh (Muslim headwear for men). I guess I don't need to now. I do have concerns about the installation of the new radiator. As you were putting it back and tightening up the connections, I clearly head the "click" on the one corner, but nothing on the opposite. I do hope it holds! :) My sincere condolences on the loss of Big Mama. It doesn't matter the type or size of the animals we become friends with. Once they've acquired a place in our hearts and lives, it's tough when they go.
Finally your are going to the Arbour press directly, do you kno2 how infuriating it is to know you have such a wonderful tool and see you use a hammer 😱 By the way I have done similar repairs on old mining trucks and they have brackets on the "soft" hose you take of so you gain slack and can mount them with the cooler floating above the bracket. Usally involved a lot of grunting trying to wrangle the cooler into the right place to get a few bolts on without having the girl take a bite out of you so I don't know if that is easier or quicker but the setup seemed very similar so mabe check for a bracket on the frame where the line makes a bend. If you don't have the same provision on BB you should consider it if you need to replace one of the lines in the future. Comes in handy when you need to clean or remove a broken fan or seal. And thx for the video as always 👍
3:29 Thanks for the weekly motivation, Jon. Every Saturday, I start my day with coffee and your video. No matter my weekend tasks, they never are as tough as what you’re doing, so I tell myself, "Quit being a wimp and get after it!"🤣
RIP Big Momma. Thanks Jon & family. Take care & stay safe.
What I hate about watching the Friday vid on Monday is that I have to wait for next week to see more of those great videos you create for us.
Thank you for every minute of that good stuff!
Someday a farmcraft fan will launch the farmcraft101 surveillance drone live stream program so we don't have to wait.
@@vennic If John approves, I'm ok with that but only if he approves.
Don't want to disturb him...
I’m sorry for your loss of Big Mama. 😢
Sorry to hear about out Big Momma, John. Hopefully Little Momma will grow up to take her place. I wasn’t expecting the cooler repair to be 2k though 😮

It's only temporary unless it works
If it works, it's is a good repair. You should be proud.
There's nothing so permanent as a temporary repair that works.

Pretty straight forward fix this week......considering.
Wow, the trouble you go thru to remedy leaks, you must REALLY hate oil leaks! Great series, enjoying watching your progress
Those broken cabin windows are buggering me more than I thought. Nothing really to do functionally but it seems to rain quite often 😂

Delayed gratification is what it's all about. Just imagine the intensity of your orgasm when the windows get fixed!

Sorry to hear about Big Mama's passing, thank you for sharing her with us.
Sorry to hear about Big Momma. Paisley and Dozer look like they have been having fun. Progress on Le Grand Marge.
Nicely done, Jon! Learned something new, too - using an air hammer to loosen a nut. Keep 'em coming! Scott
Crazy how you’re improving America by sharing your knowledge to young men thanks for your time and effort John.
The transformation this excavator goes through is impressive!
I guess you made the right choice... cutting into this radiator showed us how "beefy" it is, as in very strong! Nice work! Nive video, thank's
Cool to see this old piece of steel getting a new life.
I'm so impressed with how well that diesel engine starts and purrs.
Congrats John, on finally getting the Hyd Oil Cooler repaired.. Ms Marge is getten better with time/ and money too..
she's going to be a goodie when you get done with her. hopefully in the future you will have some more metal casting projects in the works.

I loved the double lipped and the old seals 😂. Nice job as usual John. Sorry to hear about big momma, she was a beautiful old cow with a wonderful temperament.
👍a short video for farmcraft is a long video for every other youtuber 😂
You are an inspiration to all of us DIYers. Thanks.
Always good to see a new FarmCraft uploaded 😊
Really enjoying the trials & tribulations of you fixing all of Large Marge's gremlins.
Always fun watch your patients
Sorry for your loss, keep up the great videos.
Not the first time I've seen the Fage empty yogurt container. Excellent choice for yogurt!
Awesome repair! I admire your tenacity whenever you tackle any problems you come up against. Hopefully you don't have to spend too much more on the ol' gal! :)
THANKS FOR SHARING FROM TERRY AND HAZEL IN THE UK
Oh my word Jon this video was a seal extravaganza 🎉
Sorry to hear about Big Mama, you gave her a great life
With that oil leaking the way it was, I was considering sending you a keffiyeh (Muslim headwear for men). I guess I don't need to now.
I do have concerns about the installation of the new radiator. As you were putting it back and tightening up the connections, I clearly head the "click" on the one corner, but nothing on the opposite. I do hope it holds! :)
My sincere condolences on the loss of Big Mama. It doesn't matter the type or size of the animals we become friends with. Once they've acquired a place in our hearts and lives, it's tough when they go.
I would suggest the Modine heat exchanger, I think they have stock of oil coolers. Years ago they were made in South Dakota
Finally your are going to the Arbour press directly, do you kno2 how infuriating it is to know you have such a wonderful tool and see you use a hammer 😱
By the way I have done similar repairs on old mining trucks and they have brackets on the "soft" hose you take of so you gain slack and can mount them with
the cooler floating above the bracket.
No matter my weekend tasks, they never are as tough as what you’re doing, so I tell myself, "Quit being a wimp and get after it!"🤣
Really love these excavator videos! ❤❤ Like a Dr. bringing a patient back to health..🎉
Sorry to hear about big momma! Hi little momma, welcome to the farm. Thanks for a great video, helps a lot!
BACK ONCE AGAIN! Perfect timing, have a great early start to weekend everybody!!
🍿
Large marge is going to be just fine smart move on the recore 👍👋🇨🇦
Thanks for the video again. I do notice and appreciate the editing too.
