Volga Boatmen Song

- This was recorded at Kiev, a Russian restaurant in Beijing. This restaurant has superb food at reasonable prices, but its pride and joy is a world-class opera troupe from the Ukraine that performs a huge repertoire of Russian songs nightly. This is the work song of the Volga Boatmen, slaves who were forced to manually tow shipping boats up and down the Volga river, even against the current and through silt and ice.
this man is too good to be singing in a restaurant. fantastic vocals.
He is Mikhail Sharamko, from Russian Black Sea Navy Fleet Ensemble (Sevastopol), I knew him for many years as he worked in "Kiev" restaurant in Beijing. His voice is outstanding.
I love this song, it's so powerful. Thanks for this video!
That is one impressive performance. I love what he does with his hands as he sings, very engaging.
If he were a good singer you wouldn't be talking about his hands.
@@rickx5361 Maybe that's why I said it was an "impressive performance," including his actions and voice in one comment. Do you think he has a particularly bad voice, or do you just enjoy arguing with comments strangers made 15 years ago?
@@LordofDoom202 There is no need to get an erection over an opinion that differs with yours. You actually didn't address his voice in your comment but rather chose to focus on the movements of his hands, describing them as 'very engaging'. If your statement 'impressive performance' followed by lavish compliments on his hand gestures and no mention of his voice was somehow supposed to glorify his (in my humble opinion) average singing, then say so. There is no need to get on the defensive to compensate for your poor articulation, Lord Of Doom! But with that said, perhaps you're the kind of person who marvels over the flight of a bird rather than its singing. Either way, who would've thought that the Lord Of Doom would get offended by an opposing opinion to a comment that was made fifteen years ago and write back.
Wow he gave me goosebumps!!
This guy is incredible!
Wonderful voice. Powerful and clear, he sings this song perfectly.
I first watched this video 13 years ago. Since then I regularly visit this video. I hope this guy is alive right now.

very Interesting also that low singer on american idol should sing it. ^^
Another post. Taking another look at the "Starshin", he looks like a sailor I met in Greece. He was off the "Ukraina". We had a good fight, then a good drunk. We are sailors. =Stefan=

Slavic people can sing really well, must be in their blood
老革命唱的牛🐮
It is not a Soviet song, but a traditional Russian folk song. :-)
he sounds like he could be the singer from the Red Army Chorus
This guy makes Sean Connery seem like a little girl.
soviet ftw
Better than Boris Christoff.
Russian blues :p
love this...he is not as pretty as the women at the russian restaurant we went for your birthday... but almost as entertaining... sorry about the shitty present on that day
I sing this song at work because I am a slave.
nice but the guest lived the restaurant by listening to him singing.
That was sad, I think.
