Those three stud partitions create a dead space that will not be able to be insulated later down the road. The two stud partitions/corner posts may not be quite as strong but they allow for insulation which is why they are usually preferred.
It makes more sense to make the cripple 81” nail it completely to the King studs and put the header on it. For most codes the headers shown are undersized with the exception of the 4x12. Great knowledge from Larry, but many of the techniques have advanced as building science has improved.

I just received his book today. Even though I am a general contractor of 25 years I feel there is more I can learn from Larry Haun.

6:10+12 =7ft10 (excluding 4” upper double plate and 2” bottom plate). How do you sheat this wall with 8ft sheet?
It adds up to 8 ft 1 1/2 so it'll be an inch off the ground for slabs
