I'd give Maliketh the spot for the 3rd hardest boss in Elden Ring behind Radagon/Elden Beast and Malenia. What's your top 3?
Malenia, Mohg, Maliketh. Mogh was just super hard without the nihil flask cheese

I would personally put Malenia below Radagon and elden beast because you can't stagger radagon and you'll lose a lot of flasks fighting him before you fight the elden beast. I was able to beat malenia in under 2 hours with no summons. It took me a week to defeat radagon and elden beast with maxed out mimic. But still, Malenia is much more challenging than Maliketh.

I mean…he’s the guardian of destined death, feared by all demigods. Of course he’d be an absolute monster of a fight

I think it is because maliketh fights more like a devil may cry boss than a souls boss
See the problem is is that maliketh barely even gives you much, if any real downtime to let the player get a hit in, not to mention that their movesets are just bloated as all hell, it's a total disregard of the system they've used to build the series in the first place, and it's honestly just bad design

@@Yoshyguy21 they're both bad, and I do think clergyman is defo worse, but he still is a huge pain in the ass in regards to actually hitting him since he jumps around so much, tho it may have just been me so idk

thats same for me but ive also learned more of malikeths moves while beast clergymen i just couldnt learn all the way byt i have learned some well enough where i think i can do the fight without summons(maybe)

@@kiranikib42 Same for me. I could no hit maliketh if i tried hard enough but Beast clergyman is quite inconsistent with the dodges because of speed. Maliketh is a cakewalk.
The stupid rocks, his hopping, and him just being hard to hit made it awful, malekith is mechanically tougher, but his moves are readable and are enjoyable to dodge correctly
maliketh is one of, if not my favorite boss fights in all of soulsborne. he’s also the boss i struggled the most with in my blind playthrough, but i still look forward to fighting him every time.

Part of me feels like I was just burnt out of the whole “git gud” stuff, but I just couldn’t bring myself to learn him. Beast Clergyman annoyed me to no end with his constant, long combos that I couldn’t find openings to punish. But I was mostly able to truck through him and didn’t have trouble. Then I get to Maliketh and he’s hopping around, doing all these crazy moves, destroying my whole health bar, and I have to chase him around? I just got sick of it. Then I’d get frustrated and have to beat Clergyman again every time, so I ended up just Mimic Tear cheesing.
I get it. They want the bosses to look huge. But from soft needs to back that camera up a few hundred feet. Half the battle is even seeing your opponent.
He dosent fucking sit still for one goddamn second, how tf am i supposed to kill something i cant even touch?!
I just beat him last night actually! I use the huge stone pillars at times in both phases especially when I need cover and a few moments to use a heal flask but also use the item that deflects his red sword beams! Just keep learning his move sets in phase 2 every time you play I think I lost about 14-15 times before defeating him! Also his attacks can cause your health bar to shorten when you see grey covering parts of the health bar that’s when using the huge stone pillars for cover is important until eventually the effect wears off! That’s what helped me anyway so just keep trying you’ll get him!
His vertical slam is his most punishable attack, always roll toward him and make sure to run at him at all costs so he doesn’t get distance
Magic helps out a ton on second part when he give you alittle break.
You can use the blasphemous claw to parry his ranged attacks and certain melee attacks too, his sword will glow yellow before a parry-able melee attack and if you get it, it stuns him leaving him wide open for attacks
definitely one of the most fun fights in elden ring once you learn his moveset
It is really satisfying when you finally get a clean run. Took me like 6 playthroughs to get there though lol.

Part of me wants that too, but he's already hard enough for many people and he's mandatory (not even the final boss). At least bosses such as Mohg, Malenia, and Placidusax don't hold you back from anything else. So I'm sure at least some would find him bonkers if his scaling was just like those bosses that are meant to be an optional challenge.

Maliketh is a piece of cheat scripts and everlasting combos, adapting to your movements. He’s the worst boss in game.
@@panikot7420and malenia’s difficulty is designed around one difficult move that makes no sense to try and dodge. Maybe you can use a shield to block Waterfowl Dance? Nope, she heals when she hits through the shield. She is quite literally a Sekiro boss in Elden Ring.
I'd actually say 1st phase is a lot harder to learn than 2nd phase, maliketh becomes extremely easy once you learn his moves, most of his attacks you can just counter by standing directly under him, yoy don't even need to roll
I one attempted his first phase when I got to him in my first play through, I was level 70 or something. Then he handed me my ass in his 2nd. His 2nd faze is way harder then his 1st. Overall I’d say he’s the 2nd hardest boss in the game behind Melania and above Godskin Duo w/o sleep potions, but if you used sleep then I’d say above dragonlord Placidusax.
Maliketh might be the boss that best showcases how different ER bosses are from DS3, and how you shouldn't approach them in the same way.
In both phases, positioning is really important in creating openings and helps dictate what moves he will do; you'll have a lot of trouble if you just try to mash circle and R1without thought for position, direction, and distance. You can also jump over a lot of attacks in this fight, letting you get hits in while still in the middle of combos. You really don't ever have to trade damage or rely on RNG (of which there is very little).
Exactly. Positioning is so important in this fight. It’s what makes this boss so distinct from bosses in previous games. In the past you basically just dodge and punish without much thought put into it. Maliketh makes you work for damage openings. Beast Clergyman especially, a lot of people think that he doesn’t give any openings but that is not true. He gives you plenty of openings but if you play passively and don’t stay in close range then you’ll miss the best window to punish him
Indeed, if he was a Dark Souls 3 boss you would go head to head with him, dodge his attacks and counterattack after. In Elden Ring you summon a spirit to take the never-ending ounslaught of hits so you get to attack too XD
@@falcoon_f_zero9450 That is blatantly incorrect, not to mention ignores both the original comment and the reply. You arguably get more punish windows in ER if you rely on more than just rolling (no, that doesn't mean using spirit ashes, though you can if you want to).
@@Marco1995Mega I was kinda half joking with that reply. Of course you can find an extra opening here and there when you've memorized the combos inside and out but generally Elden Ring is so stingy with reliable openings that you basically either use summons and wail on the bosses or get a quick R1 or a jump attack on them every 20 seconds. Half the openings are misleading too and you'll end up trading hits if you happen to go for them, which is rarely worth it since you lose half your health bar upon taking a hit in late game. Maliketh is just one of the worst offenders of that in the game.
@@falcoon_f_zero9450 Again, like I said, this is just not true. I've recently replayed both ER and DS3 with Colossal Swords, and I found ER more consistent with openings. It's a matter of hitting them while they're winding up, in between attacks, using positioning to create favorable conditions, jumping over attacks and hitting them at the same time, and more. DS3 is NOT designed with this mentality in mind, and you almost always have to wait for the boss to finish a combo; it's real-time, turn-based combat, which DS3 managed to push to the limit very well, but you couldn't play aggressively as consistently as you can in ER. In regards to the 'false openings' (I personally refer to them as 'feints'), they're not only very few and far between, but each and every one is consistently exploitable without trading damage, from Margit/Morgott to Malenia.
This isn't the first few months after ER's release anymore, where everyone was quoting Joseph Anderson's extremely misleading and misinformed critique (believe me when I say he doesn't really get Souls combat all that well; the combat/boss section in his DS3 critique is very misinformed in many ways). Again, if you just try to roll everything without thought for direction, positioning, openings in the middle of attacks and combos, and more, you will have a much worse time with ER's bosses.
i remember the feeling on my 3rd playthrough where i was doing a strength build w giant crusher and combined with my mastery of the fight from previous attempts i first tried it without needing to heal it was amazing

This is the one boss in the game that deserved a second health bar like melania for second phase. Such a good and fair fight
Maliketh is the one boss that makes me nervous every time I make that first run up the stairs to him in a playthrough.
Maliketh is soo fun to fight. He has very large combos, but also, before attacking, he always has a window or when the attack finishes but is necessary to be well positioned to punish him.
I wish he had just a tiny more health because is super fragile.
I actually love this fight definitely one of my favorites in ER! Also the huge pillars in this fight arena I use for cover in both phases of the fight especially when your low in hp & need a few moments to heal!
Even after beating him many times it still feels like it was insurmountable till you do it by how crazy it gets
I fought him on my first playthrough and killed him first time, then when I went though on NG+ for the other endings I was stuck on him for ages and had to get help hahahah
Opposite for me. Killed him in 3 or 4 tries on my first playthrough and completely breezed through him on my 2nd playthrough, he did rock me on my 3rd playthrough tho
Maliketh was the only boss I can remember that broke trough my shield, poor thing couldn't withstand a single hit
Some of the fights in Elden Ring are ridiculously hard and this is one of them.
Man I love how every boss in this game has aoe attacks when they absolutely do not need them
The first phase is easy for me but the combos in the second phase is just brutal

He's one of those bosses that feels like he's made for ranged builds more. You can actually attack a bit more often and you're not just trading hits in the first phase all the time. And you can punish in the second phase quicker without him just leaping out of melee range.
He's pretty squishy for late game I've never had too much trouble with him after my first playthrough
As always it depends on play style.
My first playthrough I was a heavy weapon/heavy shield tank, and Maliketh was tough, but not so bad.
Second playthrough I was strength/dex two handed, and it absolutely was monstrous. Ended up having to cheese a bit with Mohg’s trident.
Dude, the first time i beat him i quite literally tried everything, and then randomly i pulled out dual uchigatanas with bleed on them and used a mimic tear to switch to a dex and endurance based build, with health being one of the highest aswell. I put on the burn marshmallow armour (leonel set) and ran in with all my flasks allocated to health, and fucking melted beast clergyman and somehow i got lucky as hell with maliketh using the attacks where he slams into the ground and does a follow up by pulling his sword out to cause an explosion. The only way i could get hits in was to tank the explosion and pray 💀

When I learned you don’t even have to roll to dodge his overhead swings that end his combos, it made the fight so much easier, especially because it’s easy to bait that move. With decent weapons you can take like a quarter or even a third of his remaining health each time. Not a cakewalk by any stretch, especially because surviving long enough outside of those combos is hard still, but it’s more manageable knowing that.
Mohg and Gargoyle Twins gave me the most trouble, and Malenia of course
Favorite boss in the game. Was on an Airbnb trip and was playing next to a friend trying to beat the game for the first time. He watched me beat maliketh first try and honestly idk if I could do that again
I literally beat him on my first attempt in like 2 minutes. The golden horse -boss- enemy before him though I was stuck on for like 50+ attempts.

The way I started to rank bosses by difficulty is how many attempts it took to beat them on a new playthrough two years later after not playing for over a year and a half. For me the hardest boss was Malenia(obviously) but interestingly Maliketh was easier than Rykard and Rennala. In order of apperance I beat Margit in two tries, I beat godrick in two try’s, I beat rennala in 7 tries, I beat Radhan in 4 tries(with summons because it’s awesome) I beat Rykard in 3 tries, I beat morgott first try I beat fire giant first try, I beat real mohg third try, I beat Malenia in 22 tries, I beat foreskin duo in 7 tries I beat Maliketh my second try and I slaughtered Gideon first try, I beat Godfrey third try and I beat Radagon and Elden Beast in 16 tries. Total playtime was 52 hours.
There is an item that parries the black flame that costs no fp to use. I forgot the name but it’s an item that goes in the same slots as your flasks.
I agree, one tip I found is to just try to hop behind him whenever he lands and do tons of damage
I had a hard time with Maliketh too. But I just stay right on his butt and attack after he attacked and it made it easier.
Strangely enough, the first phase was the hardest part for me. I went into the first phase like a complete moron with my giant dad character, so I tried around 20 or so times just on his first phase. The second time I got him to the second phase, I didn't even take a hit and squashed his head like a grape. I guess this goes to show that not everyone is going to have the same experiences with bosses.
2nd phase was always easier than the first phase for me. Only problem was having no flasks and my buffs running out by the second phase.
Maliketh, malenia, and mohg were by far the hardest fights for me. Close next to that is niall; since i did a no spirit run, those two sword ppl he had were a fucking nightmare to fight at the same time as him. And the og godskin apostle at caelid, that mf was insane to fight idk if i was underleveled or he was just supposed to be really hard then but he was
Maliketh can be made really easy with a mimic tear, a dragon ice and rot breath incantations. If you give the mimic a powerful melee weapon (I gave it river's of blood) then you can safely cast your incantations.
When the fight starts, let your mimic go first, when the beast clergyman's attention goes to the mimic, get just close enough to cast dragon ice until it has the frozen debuff. After, wait for the mimic to distract him again and cast rot breath. Then run around and dodge until maliketh. Then repeat the same process until maliketh dies.
Strength builds and ranged attack builds massacre him, the most attempts it has ever taken me to beat maliketh (all accounts considered) was 10 flat. And it was NG+7 where i kept getting 1-shot.
Maliketh is the only boss that gave me trouble I beat both Malenia and radagon/elden beast in under 10 tries, my fight with maliketh had me wanting to dolphin dive into my wall
Unfortunately I was too powerful when I first fought him, what made him look easy. But I fought him at ng+7 what made it more like a fair fight and it definitely was one of the hardest bosses, even at lvl 250
I had the most trouble with Mohg. (Lord of blood loss version)
Was the only boss I actually needed a summon for the entire playthrough.
I have learned all of the movesets of Maliketh but that Beast form still gives me trouble💀
My first time I died to that fucking Draconic sentinel 1000 times and then beat maliketh second try
this guy is my arch nemesis ever since i tried beating him at level 60 with only +12/+5somber weapons (kudos if you know why i had that limitation)
i despise phase 2 for the constant acrobatics and the so-called easy attack to avoid being seemingly impossible for me to walk around, really feels like a boss that would feel right at home in a turn-based rpg, because i'm gonna have to wait so long for a chance to strike, only for his evasion to kick in and giving him the chance to one-shot me
I had trouble with him, but I just treated it like a dps race and got it after a few tries. Some of those I didn't get any hits, just ran in a got destroyed
1. Melania, or whoever you speel it with a bullet
2. Elden beast, so many phases, spamming attacks where he isn't vulnerable made this hard, at least for my play style.
3.maliketh
Maliketh is super squishy tbh
His armour is so sikk. I wore it for the rest of the game
I must be built different then because in my first play through the boss hat took me the most attempts was Rennela

You're a dex build fighting him. He's extremely acceptable to being stunned/ poise broke. My first playthrough I had a strength build and I beat him no problem. Plus, if I'm not mistaken I think he has resistance to bleed
This was one of my favorite fights and the only boss in any soulsbourne/sekiro that I can confidently say I mastered ❤
Godfrey gave me more trouble than anyone
I agree, I've been going through Ng+ up to 8 and at 8 maliketh became an insane problem. The moment maliketh came out I'd die lol. And it wasn't just me, I love to help in coop and whenever I'd spaw into azula, I knew the host would die 2 sec into phase 2. And I also had the feeling I'd win due to rng almost every time.
Dragon rot breath for first phase and reduvia dagger for both phases. Took me 1 min to beat him in journey 4
1st playthrough, I beat him in 3 tries. I also figured out that mimic tear was a thing and got to use him before nerf. 2nd playthrough took me almost 25 attempts being solo and no mimic tear cause nerf and I felt it made things a bit trivial. Fuck Maliketh.
I think I would like this fight more if Maliketh was a bit more tanky and did a bit less damage, like a 20% adjustment to both stats. I get that he's a glass cannon, but the fight feels so hectic. I usually feel like I just got lucky with trades whenever I beat him.
And that item that parrys him has to be timed also

Double crucible knight alone was one of the worst for sure
He, Mought and Malenia are my nightmares
It took me 25 or 30 tries to beat the damn fire giant and I beat maliketh on my third attempt

I have no idea how I got that mo fo first try the Draconic sentinel outside was way way harder for me
He does holy damage and has high holy resistance. He's weak against lightning and has a 'shackle' item that parries some of his attacks. He's definitely a difficult boss, especially for melee players, but not the hardest.

If this fight had like 20% more HP it would probably be the hardest required fight in any fromsoft game. I've still personally gotta give that title to Sword Saint though

Maliketh holds my #1 spot for deaths, #2 is probably mohg, #3 is radagon/elden beast, #4 is id have to say is tree morgott, and #5 is red wolf of radagon (yeah, really). Did melania in 7 tries though
On my first playthrough, i beat him in one try, and i was so confused, because of all of the stuff i heard about him. I learned why he was so difficult on my next playthrough

I finished my 3rd playthrough today and beat: mohg, placi, both ancestor spirits, maliketh, rykard, godfrey AND elden beast all within 3 attempts. Ngl maliketh is pretty ez to me since if you use blasphemous claw you can easily do this fight with enough dps

I love using the parry item specific to this fight. But im just a parry fan, malenia is 100% my favorite boss radagon might be second when using parrying

First phase is way worse if you playing anything melee, the fucker just doesn’t stop with his little two-swing backup slash

I lost to him 8 times on my other load now im going to beat him on my main load my first load has more Strength , Dex, intelligence, Faith, and arcane I just need more vigor , mind and endurance, and max out all of status level to the maximum but I’m going for a bleed build
Tbh hardest bosses in order are radagon, malenia, and godrick. Godrick was lowkey the learning curve for me and radagon countered my whole build so that took a while
Malenia is harder than Radagon imo. Radagon isn’t rough when you learn his move set malenia you can know the moves but it still won’t matter sometimes
Im not some souls veteran i have only played elden ring and on my first playthrough i beat him second try i only lost first try because i fought the tree sentinel at the the bridge
