If you arent using summons and trying to beat it, and getting pummeled, Im sorry you are just handicaping yourself to make it more challenging. The game is as hard as you want to make it to be.😅

Literally Elden Ring is one of the easiest souls out there if not the easiest because it gives you so many options to adjust dificulty through mechanics. Imagine these people trying to beat Sekiro lol

@@OwnyOne But that's the core of the issue. a half of the people complaining about this DLC HAVE played Sekiro and loved it, because its built around that parry mechanic its incredibly well balanced despite asking for frankly higher proficiency than most Souls bosses. And the other half played "the easiest souls out there" and just bought a dlc for said "easy" game finding the game is demolishing them in spite of their tools. The glorious part about Elden Ring was that it managed to carter to both action gamers and RPG fans by being balanced around players who did little side content and allowing players to explore and upgrade if they weren't up to snuff. The DLC on the other hand demands a very optimized build, and even then wants you to find collectibles to get proper damage scaling out of said build, and only THEN are you roughly at where the bosses are scaled to. Couple that with bosses designed to catch you, generally faster all around, big AOEs you have to timed right, but instead of say the bloodborne sidestep or the Sekiro parry mechanic you get traditional Dark Souls dodge rolls and lockon camera. So the players that liked Elden Ring for the power fantasy of making a cracked build are now being told their options for over powering are expected and limited, and the ones who just want to learn bosses are being forced to do a lot of busy work just for the privilege of not being one or two shot and not spending 30 minutes to whittle down the health bar, which makes learning bosses not as fun.
Anyone on either side framing it as just a "too hard" issue isn't really looking at the way the DLC has adapted the formula and kinda forces the player to engage with mechanics. In spite of its success and popularity OVER Dark Souls, base Elden Ring was also very divisive at launch, because even though I said that for most long time fans it catered to the action aspects of the series well there was a ton of debate at launch if the boss design was up to snuff, if the way they tuned up the movesets was really built well for this system and fun to learn. The impression from more critical members was that they were using the RPG mechanics as justification some less than stellar boss design. Especially summons, telling someone who is struggling to learn a very difficult (and potentially very cheap) moveset that they need to get the boss to look at something else obviously isn't very inspiring. And so its no surprise to me that once that ability of overpowering is stripped away (by nature of scaling bosses to the top builds) people would once again start complaining about the boss design (Though more likely its less the boss design and more the core movement and defensive options of the player character not matching said bosses, which is of course all up for debate.)
My opinion, its still fun, like I'm having more fun with it than base Elden RIng. but part of me likes Lies of P's approach to a faster paced Dark Souls better. For one I rarely feel like I'm fighting the camera, and I love the way it approaches blocking as a core tool and not just an option IF you equip a shield (an option that seemingly randomly doesn't work for certain bosses in souls games)
Sorry for the long reply, I just find myself playing devils advocate all the time these days considering how reductive internet discourse has gotten.

@@UltravioletNomad I doubt I'll be able to give back such a detailed and well elaborated response, but I'll give more of my opinion anyways.
I think at this point in time it's kind of ridiculous to keep the same discourse about souls games being "too hard" going on and on. I thought we all got past that. But of course, now that Elden Ring has been the first souls for many new players of the souls franchise, I guess it was only natural.
I feel like this happens with every other souls DLC though. They always try to give them a twist so you can't keep playing the exact same way that you've always been even within the same game, and that's a really good thing imo.
What bothers me about this discourse is people seem unable to give a good critique. I'm all for critiquing games, more so the ones I love, and saying "this is just too hard" is kind of stupid. Anything that's "too hard" can be overcome with skill. Now, I think it's not the case with this DLC. You can say the bosses are lacking, the movesets are bullshit and badly designed, the camera this and that, they pace is too fast or slow, ANYRHING other than this is too difficult, and I will totally understand that and probably agree with most of it.
So, is Elden Ring DLC too hard? No. People just don't know how to critique it well.
Are some bosses too aggresive with ridiculously long attack combos and health bars that prolong fights to the point of pure boredom? Probably yes.
Is it still a 10/10 game? For many people it is, and I can see why. This is the thing, all the worth reading critiques I've read so far always end with an "I love this game" opinion, and that says a lot.
It might be weird releasing a DLC that doesn't really catter to the playerbase of the game, but what do I know about game developing. I just know I generally like everything these guys do even when it's kind of bullshit. To me all of this looks like what they usually try to do with their DLCs, like making it more challenging for example. If this is well done or not can be totally critiqued and that's fair.
So yes you're pretty spot on with what you said, which was a lot, and I think I agree with most of it and was glad to read such a well put break down of some aspects of the DLC.
PS: Sorry your long response gave me the green light to put one equally long of my own even if it might not be as interesting.

the thing is going to the mountain without going through a lair is a cake walk. only the 2 last confessions pose a mega threat.
could the game have like a convergeance where all paths lead to on in the last region if you haven't gotten on? that could be a solution but its good that you dont just cruise to the mountain with a goated team that doesnt get to fight possible meltdowns, it does happen where you absolutly kill a lair too becase you prepared for it, but you should face one besides the oblivion ingres'
