  • Mods we made to the Xinlehong 9125 R/C truck.
    Links:
    * Servo upgrade: www.aliexpress.com/item/33022...
    * Lighting kit: www.aliexpress.com/item/33004...
    Also, we have found this supplier (Albatross Toys) to be a great source of spares and is very responsive to queries and issues: www.aliexpress.com/store/5032055
    Music provided by bensound.com
    For the avoidance of doubt, this truck is in no way affiliated with Traxxas incidentally... my boys just had some spare stickers!

    I love my Xinlehong 9125. I’ve beat the hell out of mine and I still have yet to break it. Also they’ll run on 2, 3, & 4s, and I’ve even seen them run on 5s. My diff is a bit noisy from time to time but mine bashes hard daily

      Anybody else have an issue with the tie rod screws just popping out randomly? I replaced mine with longer screws and small nuts at the bottom with red loctite holding everything together. These things happen I guess. Just buy a small screw set from Harbor Freight and it'll be your best investment.

    Thanks for you video mate!
    I have applied your mods. Also, the truck does run or turn only flashing light on the ESC. Someone in yt shared it needs replacement servo. So went to buy a metal one for the Feiyue as you used. Cheers!

    Great examination of the things you’ve done with your RC truck. Thank you for your tips and help. Out of appreciation, here are some of my tips (I have no channel or videos so don’t waste time looking). Watching the video at the end with your truck rolling around on pavement, it looks like your wheels might not all be balanced. Manually balancing them with some lead putty or tape and metal washers is pretty easy and makes a huge difference. Also considering all the trucks body screws are going to plastic threads that can easily be stripped (or melted by friction heat), you may want to consider using a hand screw driver to remove them. If you get one a small diameter handle crew driver and you can spin them in and out very quickly but not lose feel for cross threading or over tightening. Lastly when I first got my truck (about a week ago) the transmission sounded a little loud. When I opened it up I found that only one of the differentials had been lubricated (with cheap grease) so I opened up both up diffs and loaded them with automotive quality, high temperature, high pressure grease (Febi which is used on Mercedes) and things are quiet and smooth. Also lightly greased motors, fly wheel, wheel bearings, “dog bones”/T end half shafts, et cetera. You might also want to check you controller steering travel compared with the actual “throw” of the truck steering. If your wheels hit the stops for turning but the servo is calling for more based on controller input, it will unnecessarily pressure servo gears and streaming linkage (the controller dial above the Hi/Lo controls the servo movement).

      Thanks for the tips Jack. Yes, we have indeed had a few screw threads starting to strip. I'm conscious of the powered driver being partly to blame for that, but having had to open up the front or back covers on the cars so many times for various reasons, I've accepted that as a risk worth taking with it, given the number of screws you have to remove! 😒 Regarding the diffs, you are also right - I've seen other people also report there being no lubrication in these. We've managed to destroy 4 of them in our house already - in our case, the weakest point is almost always the cups, which have small tags that break. Even after re-applying grease to these ourselves, we've continued to have them break on us unfortunately.

    Extend range and get a dumborc tx... then a 60a brushed esc and three wire 1/12 scale servo. Then you can just wire the motors together into the esc. I got the 6 channel rx with gyro and light controller for $20. Now I can switch my lights on and off with a switch and I rigged up a separate body with FPV and pan servo. I also put big crawler tires on it. This truck is super fun and fast enough in FPV. My attempts at making it brushless have led to me buying an all metal drive train in hopes to stop the grinding along with a whole set of pinion gears I tried to find the perfect mesh to no avail. Still grinds at low speeds and under the slightest load. In the end I reinstalled the motor mount on the original motor and reinstalled the brushed esc and motors. Now it's pretty bulletproof with the metal spur and metal diffs. With the extended range and bigger tires and metal drive train to handle em, FPV is very fun to explore with this truck. The cockpit view of my RZR body looks like a Wrangler with my big ass tires in view. And with battery voltage on screen I can always make it back before my lvc kicks in.
    FPV everything....

    got the blue judge 920, wheels fell off, got lock tight, lower arm broke, I was to cheap to spend 14 dollars so I used twist ties on it, so far so good lol. Fun little truck so far just dont run into things lol.

    • @rixc9681
      @rixc9681  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear you... we've used cable ties and all sorts to get ours back up and running! Individually, the parts for these trucks are cheap, but its the death of a thousand cuts when things keep breaking on you.
      One other tip I found for some trucks is to drill a small hole in the shock retainer caps (bottom end of the shocks), and use a twisty tie to attach it to the shock spring - this avoids the retainer cap getting lost after some more severe prangs, which has happened to us a couple of times with my son's Traxxas Rustler.

      I've ended up doing the same on both of our trucks now... saved us an awful lot of hassle! Mind though, the swing arms do sometimes get small cracks on the outside edge (with or without the coin trick) and they'll need replacing at that point regardless :-(

      Well, these are the ones I bought - 85mm version (though showing as no longer available): www.aliexpress.com/item/33046372501.html This looks to be the same product though, with a range of shipping warehouses to choose from: www.aliexpress.com/item/33016641524.html
      I can't recommend them 100% though, as they're not a perfect fit for the truck (despite the first product image showing the 9125 truck!) and you have to use washers and ideally longer screws to space them a little further from the swing arms. Aside from that, we have found they did make an improvement to the handling of the trucks. Don't forget to buy some shock oil also as these do come dry.
      I've personally found it something of a minefield in terms of getting suitably fitting shock upgrades for the trucks we have, so check and re-check the specs as best you can before buying, and expect to need a little ingenuity to make them fit! 😁

      I used small aluminum washers painted black.. looks factory! Before the proper fix although I used a very thin little black zip tie around both a arms between the shock mount and wheel. This helps support hold together top and bottom ball joints if you plan on a super bash.

  • @MultiskilledJack

    Also I added a *small* amount of oil to the factory shocks but most people seem to be upgrading the shocks to higher quality oil filled.

    I just bought one for my nephew, what spares would you recommend keeping on hand?

    • @rixc9681
      @rixc9681  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Josh,
      In my case, these have been the first hobby-grade trucks for two of my boys and have been subjected to somewhat rougher treatment than they might normally be (neighbours and friends with no experience of proportional controls and faster models getting their turns on them doesn't help!) Consequently, we've had MANY parts break on them, to the point where I bought a third one (from AlbatrossToys that I mentioned in the description - no affiliation by the way) when it was deeply discounted - around €65 I think, with the plan of one of the older ones becoming a parts donor!
      That said, at a minimum, I would recommend spares for:
      * front swing arms (top and bottom) - 25-SJ06/25-SJ08
      * front+rear axles - 25-WJ03/25-WJ04 (these tend to get bent easily if the wheels take a hard knock, and the linkages snap in the front axles also sometimes
      * differentials
      Although breaking them won't prevent your nephew driving the truck, I'd also say having spares for the body shell and front and rear bumpers will be handy. They also get pretty beat up, and we've gone through a few of those!

    Hello
    I am looking for a cheap rc capable of doing 45km / h
    I came across bangood and a lot of advertising for the HS10422 model (a 55 € delivered),
    I would like to know if you have already had this model, and if you would recommend it?
    thank you

    • @rixc9681
      @rixc9681  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi @ANO, I'm not familiar with that one unfortunately. I could not find it on Banggood just now, though I found listings for it on a couple of others sites, certainly not for that price. Just from inspecting the specs I could see and the images available, I would probably rate the 9125 as a better truck overall, though you won't find it for €55 including shipping. The 9125 has twin motors as opposed to a single motor on the HS10422, and even then it does not realistically reach 45 km/h under stock configuration. Also, being a more popular truck in my experience, 9125 should be easier to get spare parts for. Hope that is of some help at least.

      Yes, this is often done with these and I have even seen some use them with 4S, though you need to be careful as it does not provide over-discharge protection on your higher voltage batteries (I learnt that the hard way). You can buy low voltage alarm dongles that connect to your balance charge leads while using the vehicle and make a nice loud noise when the voltage drops low enough - example here: www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002380945195.html

      Hiya, yes, Hosim 9125 is the same truck (one of ours is Hosim branded also). To my knowledge, you don't need to do anything in particular with pairing the remote - it happens when you switch the truck and remote on automatically. Our trucks and remote controls are all interchangeable. I can even use the remote from a completely different truck to control these or vice versa. It is not completely universal, mind, as we also have a Traxxas Rustler and the remote for that does not work with these trucks. Best of luck, and hopefully replacing the ESC does the trick for you!
