  • I wanted to share my experience with Golden White Cloud Mountain Minnows (Tanichthys albonubes). These are wonderful nano fish for a cool water aquarium. They're small, peaceful and beautifully coloured. Whether you're a beginning fish keeper or advanced, I enthusiastically recommend White Cloud Mountain Minnows.

    Love the videos man. I love White Cloud Mountain Minnows as well. I keep them solely in my 33 long planted tank, along with tons of Cherry Shrimp. I keep both regular and golden variants, but I have more of the gold and they are definitely my favorite. Super hardy and great to watch. I think there's around 36-37 total in my tank. I've had a lot of my golds for two years now, which is the longest I've ever had fish without dying. So they are pretty bullet proof, that is, besides the ones that decided to jump out of my tank sadly. Never had experience with them breeding though. My tank is also such trash compared to yours in terms of aquascaping lol basically just a jungle mess.

      Jungle mess sounds perfect for white clouds lol. Thirty-some must look really awesome.

    I am so pleased to have found your channel because I saw that some of your fish are a bit on the 'heavy' side as mine,lol.
    I have 3 different variations of white cloud mountain Minnows and found that the golden and white ones are more likely to get a bit of a 'rounder' shape while the blue/red/ green coloured ones are more likely to keep their slim dart shape.I keep them with Amano shrimp and hillstream loaches which has been going very well for the last 20 years.
    I found that they only jump out if there is something wrong with the water, over excitement when feeding or being bullied (usually happens only when there are more males than females.)

      I've been thinking about adding millstream loaches. How warm/cool does your tank get?

    Hello jay . I seen on the white cloud mountain minnow facebook page that you were giving up on trying to breeding them . If I was you I would put 3 females and 1 male in the grow out tank you have . And just leave them in there don't even think about them breeding. Just treat it like a normal tank. And I'm time you will have fry . Don't worry about spotting fry on the glass just give it some time. 5 hanks for the video they are always made very well. 👍✌

      Hey thanks for the kind words and your very sensible advice. I'm sure I'll make another attempt at some point, and I'll definitely try your approach. Cheers, mate.

    I believe my Golden WCMMs like their aquarium- I'm a beginner and still learning. One of them, though, seems to have developed a swim bladder disorder. He's swimming with his head tilted down, and a lack of pitch and roll stability is apparent. I'm suspending feeding for a couple of days because I believe I've overfed them. Would it also be safe to turn the water up to 74-75 degrees to help their metabolism get moving? Or is that too warm for these little guys?

      Post that question to WhiteCloud Dynasty (th-cam.com/channels/S1GC6gkrPCi3DqnxJdk3TQ.html). Blong has way more experience than I do. He also hosts a WCMM page on Facebook. You're bound to get some good advice there.

    Nice video of my favorite minnow. I have over eighty white clouds of all ages in a 4' x 5' indoor pond, 10" deep and planted with both submerged (Anubis and Sagitarria) and emergent plants (Cyperus alterniflora and all the house plants that are able to live as marginals) with diffused and some direct natural light. I tried to reproduce their natural shallow stream habitat. They easily spawn in mats and among the fibrous roots and sunken logs. Temp. 68-70 F. Strong stream flow by a pond pump and they're companions with 6 Hill-stream loaches, 5 Corydoras julii, 1 bristlenose pleco and many cherry shrimp. Breeding takes place throughout the warmer months. I feed them dried, freeze-dried, and live foods plus there's plenty of infusoria for the fry.

    nice looking fish, i recently bought 15 golden white cloud minnows and only one of the males has this almost orange to red color that your fish are having. I hope to be able to breed from this male or find some other with this color depth.

      Good luck with your breeding project. It can be hard to find quality breeding stock. The last time I ordered a group of standard White Clouds they came in mostly bronze with red fins, not the expected silvery blue. SMH

    Hello!
    I keep 5 of them in the tiny 17l tank on my desk with a couple shrimps. These guys are friendly and very fun to watch. They tend to swim near the bottom, they squeeze themselves in the middle of a moss pile, the thicker it is the better. I've seen them spawning right in the tank, but eggs didn't survive obviously. I'll try to breed them once again in a separate container. I have beautiful really unusual male with dark spot on his head and back, he looks a bit like koi fish, so I want to see if his kids inherit his color!

    Do they school directionally like black neons do for example, when there's bigger fish around?

    • @jaymiller3238
      @jaymiller3238  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They are the only fish I have in my 25-gallon aquarium so I can't speak to the bigger fish context. Usually they're exploring and foraging all over the place and occasionally sparring over territory. I've noticed that when the lights go down they tend to stick together and swim directionally. I think they're considered shoaling fish rather than schooling fish if I'm not confusing those terms.

    I've 5 in my community tank & i noticed they even sleep @ night in the top 20% & actually i did not realize they where jumpers which probably explains one missing & yes they are a colourful addition to the tank ...Cheers Kevin from Australia , you can check my tank on my channel

      Yeah the jumping has been infrequent in my experience but it does happen. I'll never forget seeing a new shipment of WCMM being acclimated at my local fish store and they were jumping like crazy.

    Some of the females look about ready to pop! I picked 13 about a month ago. Mine have a black dot at the base of the taiil.

      I know, right? I suspect one of the older females is egg bound. I put her in a spawning tank a few months ago but her condition never seemed to change, so I guess she wasn't releasing her eggs.

    how often do they breed?

    • @jaymiller3238
      @jaymiller3238  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Constantly, like rabbits! Seriously, I don't know how often females produce eggs. I'd have to look that up.
