I will the one correction I would make to this review is that front “gate” where you enter the actual campground (just outside the Lake MI beach house entrance) is actually manned by someone at all times. Yes there is not a gate but there is always at least one ranger on duty at that building and you have to wait for them to wave to get in or else the rangers come after you.
Yep, I confirmed with the Park that during camping season, Mid-May through October there is a ranger at the ranger station 24/7. No one is present at the ranger station off-season. Thanks!

John, great review overall, but how could you not mention the campground store or the Dam and boardwalk or the Skyline trail or the river?? I live about 5 miles from the park and know it well.
Plethora of chipmunks 😂😂😂 Plethora is one of my favorite words! Love all of the trails - are the trails dog friendly (not that our dog will still be alive by the time we get that Far East...)? Nice beach at the lake & nice review!

George Hennon Hey George, the deer looked pretty healthy to me and free to roam anywhere. The State Park has great established trees. Just a nice place to hike if are ever in these parts. All the best! John

I haven't been to any Michigan State Park that has a dish washing station. You could call Ludington SP directly to double check, but I don't recall any such amenity. Happy camping!
@@JohnMarucci i was just at Bruin lake campground and they had a big stainless steel utility sink outside the bathrooms with hot & cold water & people were doing dishes & pots & pans. Thought it was a great convenience.
If you need internet you will need to stay in the Beechwood loop for sure. Other than that, the interior campsites are pretty much sandwiched together, so if you can land a perimeter site, it will be a bit more private. The sites backing up to Hamlin Lake in the Beechwood middle loop are prime but very difficult to book. I have tried a bunch of different sites and the size of your RV comes into play. If I have my smaller R-Pod I can fit into many more sites. Michigan State Parks have a 6 mo. booking window, so you will need to plan ahead in order to get the better sites. Thanks!

How is the light pollution at night?
I think it is quite clear there at night as there are no major cities nearby and it is right on Lake Michigan.
Once you go to Ludington State park , all the rest will be ruined for you. IT'S THAT GOOD.
