    Your videos are very entertaining. I will never see most of the films that you review, but your excitement over them is contagious.

    Thanks for this episode highlighting some of your favourite boutique labels and releases of 2024. 2025 could be another good year for both Blu-ray and 4K. I have been going through my old DVD collection and was surprised by how good some of the boxsets were.
    Thank you for your enthusiasm and film knowledge.

    Thanks for another year of reviews and turning us onto so many hidden gems, Elliot. I only wish more of these, especially Barfly, were available in the US. To paraphrase Mickey Rourke’s Charles Bukowski, here’s to you and all my friends!

      Thank you, Steve! I really appreciate all of the support. And you're right, I do wish films were equally as accessible across the globe so that more people could enjoy these great discs. Cheers!

    I just watched The Frightened Woman on DVD. Not a good transfer, even for the time, almost colorless but still the film was engaging. Definitely interested in the blu-ray you mentioned.

    I'd like to recommend Error 4444 as another great label to watch. If you love horror or extreme cinema cinema that's what they specialise in. All things Asian and extreme. From Japan and Korea, to South East Asia and China.

    I agree that Floating Clouds was one of the great releases of last year and Naruse belongs among the best three or four Japanese directors.In fact BFI have had a very good year with the release of Seven Samurai and two lesser known Ozu films plus four Kurosawa titles in the next few months.

    Seems these new boutique labels are blowing Criterion out of the water on shared titles.
    What's going on? Why is this happening?

    Am surprised at no mention of Deaf Crocodile, as you have been reviewing their releases with many very positive comments.
    I agree with your comments about Radiance. To me since they began they just wrenched the title of best releases from all comers.
    Criterion seem to be having a bit of a lull recently, going for 4K upgrades more than anything else. Their UK releases continue to fly under the radar, sadly.
    I’m one of the complainers about Eureka, I’m afraid. From being perhaps the top UK label they’re now hardly getting any of the films that they’d have done a great job with. If they’re making good profits from their martial arts titles, I’m pleased for them. Their Silents remain a highlight, but just not many of them. As for their previous range of European directors, they’ve disappeared. I suppose with the increased numbers of labels the competition has become much greater.
    Flicker Alley have had some terrific films out in the last few years, from digging out lost classic noirs to South American delights, I wish I could afford more!
    Thanks, Elliot!

      Deaf Crocodile is mentioned at 04:50. I agree 100% with you about Eureka. I am really disappointed with what they are doing now, compared to what they used to be.

    What we need are box sets of Fredrick Wiseman's peerless documentaries. That the only box sets are French with stupidly burned-in subtitles in French which is a disgrace.

    It's a nice review of the year, just like the ones you have done for boxsets and 4K (even if I am not into 4K). I always enjoy watching your videos. But I have to disagree (again) with you on Eureka and their martial arts releases. I am one of the 'naysayers' you are referring to, although I have stopped complaining about it on social media since the people at Eureka don't seem to care one bit since those releases are selling well. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, I am fine with people enjoying martial arts, but like many others, I think there are just too many martial arts releases. I like Asian cinema (I recently watched and enjoyed Elegant Beast, released by Radiance), but martial arts is not my cup of tea. I used to love Eureka for their silent, independent and world cinema releases (especially German cinema), but their releases are now 90% of the time martial arts. Occasionally, there will be something different, such as the great Feuillade and Laurel&Hardy boxsets. That's quite a shift. There was way more diversity in the past. Some people (including you) are obviously enjoying it, but I totally understand some people's frustration. Most of them are probably Eureka's historical fans (including myself). Eureka owe a lot to them. They deserve more consideration. And I don't think you should be so dismissive of them.

    I m one of those naysayers complaining about Eureka releasing martial arts movies.
    My main problem is that the classic films they used to specialise in now remain unreleased. The martial arts films are released by the dozens on several labels, so why not concentrate on what other labels won,t release?

    • @Kev_Cos
      @Kev_Cos วันที่ผ่านมา

      Clearly they must be struggling or faltering financially and these martial arts movies must be among their bestsellers so it makes sense they concentrate on them if only temporarily. Seeing how quickly the Louis Feiullude set sold out should be a good sign that they trust releasing their early cinema releases more this year. At least I hope so too.

    • @maartenlemmens8628
      @maartenlemmens8628 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @Kev_Cos so do i! The Feuillade box set is out of print already. Proof that there is plenty enough interest in classic film.

    • @Kev_Cos
      @Kev_Cos วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@maartenlemmens8628 Yeah I definitely think it's overdone with the martial arts, surely the bubble will burst soon though? At least we have the early Sirk movies and the Mabuse set to look forward to early this year anyway, time will tell how the rest of the year plans out!
