This guy is so obviously not a percussionist he really dissed drum machine cause it was just “randomly hitting drums”. Lmao it’s the rhythm which is interesting and difficult to play. That’s why famous (good) drummers don’t just play simple beats. It sounds like they’re randomly hitting stuff but it makes sense rhythmically.
i strongly disagree with aqua harp. I think the whole point of that one is it was supposed to be peacefull and not very epic. I think that piece is beautiful visualy and musicly. Also acoustic curves is a good melody. And probebly the cloosest to a consistant melody we have had in animusic. I disagree quite a bit.
Personally, I always found all 15 songs to be amazing in both music and animation, especially for their time. There isn't a single one I'd describe as "meh" or "mediocre"... So it's difficult for me to understand most of the negative criticisms in this video, but I appreciate the in-depth analysis
@@SR388_Zebes Agree. Plus Aqua Harp is one of my favorite one and I actually want Aqua Harp to be my alarm clock. I don't understand why he thinks aqua Harp is the worst.
KIDS !! They don't !! There hasn't been any new vid for at least a decade and a half, probably longer!! These recent releases are just "Video Quality Upgrades " Just research it and keep your speculations to your self. Beyond the Walls (known as Concerto in 3D if watched in stereoscope) (1996) - the first animation made under the name of Animusic, produced for VRex (a manufacturer of stereoscopic glasses and projectors). Animusic, LLC is the company that started in 1990 and is now a dormant animation company specializing in the 3D visualization of MIDI-based music.
Really good video man, I enjoyed it thoroughly. Just a quick pointer, Gyro Drums is pronounced "jai-roh" like if you've ever heard of a "gyroscope" it's modeled after one of those ;) I'm planning on coming out with an Animusic documentary at some point so it's nice to see there's still interest in the community.
This young man is well spoke, but his youth clouds his judgment. Everything is "Cool" but flawed. All of Animusic is genius personified. Each offering should be enjoyed and taken on its own merit and not in comparison to any other on the disc. I remember years ago when Public Radio (channel 11 Chicago) offered the two disc set as an incentive for a higher monetary subscription, upon seeing it for the first time I immediately ordered both discs from the publisher and have enjoyed them ever since. And when high resolution big screen tv came along, WOW! Nothing like Animusic of a 65 inch screen with great speakers. Sorry he found Aqua Harp to be so boring. It was not meant to be as blast worthy as ACDC's "Thunder Struck". According to his logic Claude Debussy's "Clair de Lune" should be played with a disco beat. The beauty of Aqua Harp is in its simplicity. The bells (chimes) are gorgeous. I could go on with my negative critique, but I think I'm clear. This is evidence prima facie why "Youth" should not have critical decision power.
I like how they're all catchy and how aqua harp is so calming and some like starship groove and fiber bundles feel futuristic and the ones like pipe dream and stick figures feel like a different older vibe and the resonance chamber one feels like a cozy vibe
RIP Aqua Harp. Imo I found it the most boring as a kid, but now looking back at it it's the most relaxing and beautiful sounding out of the lot, and it should get credit for that. I respect your opinion though.
Ever since I met Animusic for the first time (Pipe Dream), I prefer the realistic-looking animations. I remember that I hardly could convince a friend of mine it wasn't a real machine. In my top 5 there are three realistic animations (1, 2, 5): 5. Acoustic Curves 4. Starship Groove 3. Fiber Bundles 2. Pipe Dream 1. Resonant Chamber
I see here that a lot of people here are disappointed about their favorites having some of the lowest ranks. I kinda am too, as Stick Figures is one of my favorites, but let me tell you this. There are only 15 songs and they are all really good. Some of them have to be in the last few places, even if they are good ones. Making this list must have really hard.
My personal list (using the same kind of criteria-music and animation): 15. Aqua Harp. I agree with you on many points. It’s a nice, peaceful melody to relax to, but it pales in comparison to other Animusics. I wish the flutes and tubular bells wouldn’t just play the same melody as the harp, and instead add some harmony to make a more full sound. The strings do a good job on that, but the other instruments feel kind of wasted, especially the bells. 14. Pogo Sticks. This is a HUGE difference of opinion, but I personally don’t really like this one. I like the journey aspect of it, but that’s about it. The theme gets repetitive, and the only parts I enjoy are the tunnel themes. Keep in mind that this is where it gets difficult to rank the animations. It’s a good animation, but it doesn’t quite make the cut like others. 13. Drum Machine. It pains me to place this animation low on the list, but I have my reasons. The only exciting parts happen in the second half when the timpani, agogo bells, etc. come down. Otherwise, it’s kind of boring. 12. Pipe Dream. Probably the most iconic animation, I agree with you on many points. The melody feels...unconfident. It doesn’t sound solid and it doesn’t match up to the themes of others. For animation, yeah, it looks neat with the many balls striking the instruments, but otherwise, there really isn’t much to say. 11. Fiber Bundles. I used to really enjoy this one, but these days, I’m starting to realize how it’s structure kind of declines over the course of the animation. It starts out in a neat melody in a neat animation. It gets more confident, but then...it just...doesn’t sound engaging. 10. Stick Figures. Remember when I said how Aqua Harp didn’t do well with harmony? Stick Figures is the opposite. There’s a wide variety of instruments, adding their own voice to the main melody. I especially love it when the double bass joins in. It just sounds so...full. As far as animation, it isn’t engaging, but the music makes it up. 9. Pipe Dream 2. The superior sequel to the original Pipe Dream, this version sounds way more confident and structured than its predecessor. The design of the stage is quite detailed, making the instruments seem more worn out. The theme is catchy and the instruments were used in a way better fashion than the first Pipe Dream. 8. Acoustic Curves. I enjoy this more than the above, mainly because of how such a simple tune near the beginning can blend in with a different tune. The beginning isn’t that great, but when it hits that part where the bass strings join in, it just gets way better. Animation wise, it’s alright. The circular nature of it is nice to look at. The tubular bells are a nice way to finish the theme. 7. Gyro Drums. Dang, they went all out with percussion. Drums everywhere. And somehow, a comprehensible melody was made from such a wide assortment of drums. The three drummers really do a great job at combining sounds to make a sick beat. I like how it sounds experimental at the start, and then dives right into action. The animations looks great as well. 6. Resonant Chamber. Simply amazing. Right from the get-go, we’ve got a melody established. We also have a nice combination of the different strings. I find it really engaging seeing strings of different sounds melding into one melody. And the part where you said that the melody at the end is the same as the beginning but with added parts? 100% agree with that. The animation is a bit creepy, but it also catches the eye pretty quickly. 5. Future Retro. This rock concert really rocks. Its animation is simply amazing to look at, and although the same melody repeats itself, it always sounds a bit different each time. It sounds empty at first, but then as more instruments are added in, we’ve got a nice combination of sounds. The evolution of the melody is what makes this so great. Oh, and that green laser part definitely deserves praise. 4. Cathedral Pictures. It’s amazing how they took a classical music piece and basically remade it into Animusic form. The two circles and the giant towers and organ in the background really pops out to the viewer. I don’t really think there’s much more to say, except that the pyrotechnics at the end absolutely nailed the feeling of the piece. By the way, the piece is called “Pictures At an Exhibition” composed by Mussorgsky. Animusic chose the Promenade, Hut on a Fowl’s Legs, and the Great Gate of Kiev movements. 3. Harmonic Voltage. Oh my goodness, where do I begin? The melody is catchy, and it actually kind of tells a story. The animation is really well done, especially the towers in the background that make that...weird sound. And the part with the green laser is epic, melody and animation. I dislike the end, but that’s about it. 2. Starship Groove. What can I say? The expressiveness of the robots, the catchy 7/4 melody, the epic space setting, etc. I think this animation speaks for itself. Oh, and fun fact, the red robot is female. 1. Heavy Light. The way the lights are introduced one at a time...the different rhythms...oh man this animation takes the cake for an awesome finale. When the white floodlights hit, my thoughts were: “Heck yeah!” And the way how they repeated the same melody from the beginning but with every single light (except the soft blue ones at the start-speaking of which, excellent introduction) completely takes me in, even the insignificant green lights. And that powerful ending with the tam-tams...it really does feel like a finale. If you took the time to read this, thanks! Remember, this is only my opinion. I think all of them are great, just some better than others. Fantastic work, Animusic. I hope Animusic 3 will come out...if it ever will...
Excellently written! I applaud your knowledge of Animusic-you're certainly better read than the video creator. You're also the only person here whose ranking pretty much lines up with mine. I love the third movement of Cathedral Pictures enough that it alone would top my list. The righteousness of the pipe organ combined with the strings, bass, and percussion simply give me goosebumps. Personal bias aside, your top three are probably better rounded songs. I especially enjoy the bass line toward the end of Harmonic Voltage and the floodlight section in Oxymoron. Honorable mention for the laser break in Starship Groove. And as you said, I wouldn't consider any of these songs any less than a 5 or 6 out of 10. Even Aqua Harp has a definite mood and I often put it on when I'm down. Appreciate your write-up, and cheers!
My top themes from Animusic is Pipe Dream, Aqua Harp, Stick Figures, Pipe Dream 2, Future Retro, Cathedral Pictures, Fiber Bundles, and Resonant Chamber.
Animusic 2 has the option to play either in Stereo or 5.1 surround sound. For any one reading this that has not heard it on a home theatre, then get to someone who has one and rewatch it. Starship Groove for example seems flat, and almost to the edge of just ok in stereo. BUT on a true surround system (NO - not a soundbar mimicking surround), the sound is so all over and around with the ambiance you can’t get without! I promise to any one who hasn’t yet heard it in surround will be like they are seeing and yet hearing and feeling it for the first time. I design home theatre systems as part of my work and have used Animusic 2 countless times for demo. For the soundtrack you’ve been missing, and that stomach moving sound like you get in the finest theatres, give it a listen.
Honestly the first Animusic was the best. Every song was a smash hit. None of the other songs in animusic 2 had the musicality the first did. Sure the animation in the second were fantastic but if music isn’t good then there’s no point.
No idea why everyone likes Heavy Light so much, I'd personally rank it well in the middle of my rankings because its subpar animation. Drum Machine and Pipe Dream 1 and 2 top my list.
I personally like Acoustic Curves a lot and Pipe Dream 2 better than original. Though I agree Harmonic Voltage is really good. Would really like a explanation (only if that is convenient for you)
I personally really like Aqua Harp. Sure it’s not the best but it’s very relaxing. Sounds like something that could come out of Super Mario Galaxy. My list: 1. Harmonic Voltage 2. Heavy Light 3. Stick Figures 4. Future Retro 5. Acoustic Curves 6. Aqua Harp 7. Pogo Sticks 8. Fiber Bundles 9. Pipe Dream 10. Starship Groove 11. Pipe Dream 2 12. Resonant Chamber 13. Cathedral Pictures 14. Gyro Drums 15. Drum Machine
"Beyond the Walls" was my fav as a kid growing up. I was kinda surprised you didn't talk about it, but it's ok since it was kinda hidden. ^-^ Something about it just spoke to me when I was little. I also always thought those things looked like *laser pretzels* and *spider/crab legs* xD
My personal top three favorites: #3: Fiber bundles (Groovy, but not as groovy compared to the others) #2: Heavy light (don't like the song that much when the sniper lasers come in, they sound out of tune for some reason.) #1: Harmonic Voltage Harmonic Voltage gives me a sense of sadness and nostalgia, even though I didn't hear it before in my childhood. The first time I heard Harmonic Voltage I shed a tear from the beauty of this song, The comments didn't help either. like one of the comments said (video I'm specifically pointing to: th-cam.com/video/rGCTLJDoMGw/w-d-xo.html), It felt like a civilization of music crying out for help. The last part has a sense of triumph to it since their song would keep going. That's why I like Harmonic Voltage so much.
Dang I just disagree with everything you said pretty much lol oh well to each his own. Your probably a pop/alternative only guy I think. Like when you were analyzing acoustic curves there are two obvious melodies he’s switching back-and-forth with using fantastic transitions. With such a warm sound as well. I think as you learn more about music and mature your musical pallet you’ll see the genius in it.
In my opinion all of the songs are great and I would say none are bad or mediocre, and all are good. Aqua Harp is one of my favorite ones. Pipe Dream (both the orig. and 2) are both actually better. In fact, I like them so much that I can't tell my absolute favorite, but from what I would say the worst is Drum Machine (because it is repetitive and only has drums and no real melody, but it is only my least favorite and I still like it). Edit: So here is my list from worst to best: 15: Drum Machine. It is a really good one but it is only my least favorite, I actually like this despite it being at the very bottom. The reason why I put it here is because it lacked melody and is kinda repetitive. 14: Gyro Drums. Same reason as above, lacked melody but it is not as repetitive, and is kind of better. Again I do not dislike it, I still like it but I like the others more. 13: Cathedral Pictures. It is again very good and also in the animation but it would be better if they were to use a original song rather than a already existent song. 12. Pogo Sticks. Really nice animation and music but the music sounds less interesting than most of the others. 11. Starship Groove. Really nice but again some other songs sound better than this. 10. Resonant Chamber. Really nice song but animation is kind of boring but the music is actually one of my top favorites. 9. Aqua Harp. As opposed to the points in this video, I actually like this a lot. It is not meant to be so epic and instead it is very calming and peaceful. The other music instruments could play different melodies and that would make it better, but it is still good as it is. 8. Future Retro. Both the song and animations are very good but it could be improved. However since this is the first Animusic song in a actual album, I would not say these are actual problems. 7. Acoustic Curves. Again the animations are kind of boring since these are just hammers but the music is one of the top best. 6. Pipe Dream. This is the first Animusic song I have ever heard and saw. It was good in both animation and music and very realistic and I actually thought it was real. It was only when I found out more about Animusic that I found it was only CGI. 5. Pipe Dream 2. Same points as above, but it actually sounds better despite me being obsessed with the first Pipe Dream for a long time. This is the second Animusic song I heard and saw, the bells are used more often and the animation would give it a same ranking but the music is better. 4. Fiber Bundles. It is really good in both music and animation and I do not really have any negative points. 3. Stick Figures. The animations are very good and the song is actually one of my favorites song of all time (not only in Animusic). 2. Harmonic Voltage. My second favorite in both music and animation, this is also one of my favorite songs of all time. My one and only complain about this is that it is kind of repetitive but despite that it actually sounds good. 1. Heavy Light. My absolute favorite in Animusic in both music and animation, this is also one of my top 10 favorite songs of all time. I do not have any complains about this that I have in most others.
Fiber bundles is a mood for me Resonant chamber for me had me accidentally fell asleep on cuz melody was so calming and is like a lullaby making me snore
There's something wring with you, this list is so out of wack. Future Retro at number 15!!?!? I've never met a person who doesn't have future retro as one of their favs. You shouldn't exist /j
@@rainbowsong909 Wow that is so rude. Please respect other's opinions. You don't know, maybe he/she likes Future Retro but likes all the ones better? Just like me I like all of them but some more than the others. I have never seen anyone being so rude over an opinion they don't agree. In fact this comment is so rude I think if you persist I will have to report this. No offense.
Acoustic Curves and Future Retro are the best and it's not even close. From there things like Pogo Sticks, Heavy Light, Harmonic Voltage, and Fiber Bundles take the honorable mentions. A few classics like the Pipe Dreams follow those. The rest I don't remember as well and would have to relisten to rank exactly but there's none I explicitly dislike.
I HEAVILY disagree with your opinion on Harmonic Voltage (this is just my opinion) the song just repeats itself for 8 MINUTES that is just too long for a repeat of the same thing over and over again. The setting is dull and depressing, has to be my least favorite song in Animusic. The only part I really like about is the green rings in the background because me, my 2 brothers, and my sister always yelled "BWOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!" when it happened it was super funny and gives me nostalgia.
I have to agree with pipe dream. I think its overrated, but the music isnt very exiting at all. (its still ok though), But i think acoustic curves should be a lot higher. Yeah, the beginning is kinda boring, but the tune is catchy and ive had it in my head for the last 8 years. Same thing with stick figures, because the music is soo good. By far my favourite track.
My ranking 15: Acoustic / I don’t really like it at all, animation and music. The chimes at the end absolutely KILL ME 14: Aqua harp / Exactly what you said. Boring animation and the extra instruments kinda ruin it 13: Drum machine / Really boring animation and the music makes no sense. This is what happens when all of the instruments are random drums 12: pipe dream 2 /After listening to pipe dream 1 for so long, I just CANT get used to this 11: Future Retro / Pretty cool animation and music is catchy. Jut a tad bit too repetitive and poppy for me 10: Harmonic voltage / I’m so sorry, it’s just to slow and boring for me lol 9: Pipe dream 1 / An iconic one. Pretty decent music and decent animation 8: Fiber bundles / I’ve only listened to this once but when I did. I thought the same as you, music a tad repetitive tho 7: Resonant Chambers / Decent animation and the song is a banger lol 6: Cathedral Pictures / Great animation and good music. Especially that middle section 5: Gyro drums / What drum machine should’ve been 4: Stick figures / Best music ever, this song is a BANGER 3: Heavy lights / Fantastic animation and one of the grooviest songs in all of ani music 2: Spaceship groove / Fantastic animation and fantastic music, I love songs with odd time signatures 1: Pogo sticks / Iconic is all I can say. Great song and each pogo stick has a personality and I love that
Aqua Harp and Acoustic Curves are some of the best in terms of music, not the best in animation but definitely the best sounding ones. I prefer Pipe Dream 2 better, since it sounds much better in tone. Harmonic Voltage is one of my best ones, so I am kind of opposed to the points in the video. But I agree with some of your points.
Wow!! Heavy light was the first one i saw/heard and i loved it!! Glad to hear it is highly appreciated. Can i PM you? I want to share a Rick Wakeman song and get your opinion.
Well can’t be worse than that “sprinkler sound beat “ in music all kids like today and sounds the same in every dang new song if you can call that music!.
Ima be honest I either totally agreed or completely disagreed with almost every piece's placement lol -Gyro Drums and Pogo Sticks are probably my 2 least favorite of the 15, whereas he ranks them fairly high. -I do agree that Heavy Light and Harmonic Voltage are the two best pieces. -I vehemently disagree with him ranking Aqua Harp and Pipe Dream at the bottom. (I get that it's all based on his own opinion, but disliking bells for seemingly no apparent reason just doesn't justify throwing them under the bus, if you ask me.) -Stick Figures, Cathedral Pictures, Resonant Chamber, and Acoustic Curves have some very solid music, whereas I find Starship Groove and Pogo Sticks to be rather repetitive and dull. Some things to note: -I don't care about the animations as much as I do the music; the music plays much more of a role into how much I like each piece. That being said, a really good animation can positively add to the experience and drastically improve the way the music is perceived. (This is, of course, the whole point of Animusic, after all) -Having grown up as a band kid playing with various bands, symphony orchestras, and other groups, I do have respect for percussion, I just don't particularly enjoy unpitched percussion when it's all by itself, so my rankings of Drum machine and Gyro Drums aren't going to be super high. All things considered, this is my personal ranking from best to worst (Keep in mind, I still like them all): 1. Heavy Light (Has always been the best one in my heart; it's just so hauntingly beautiful. Never fails to give me chills) 2. Harmonic Voltage (I love the bridge section when the green laser pretzel gets its turn on the tower) 3. Stick Figures (The low brass feature after the slow section is really fun) 4. Cathedral Pictures (That ending is pure majestic pipe organ awesomeness) 5. Pipe Dream (Arguably Animusic's most iconic and well-known piece. Musically I would rate it between Fiber Bundles and Aqua Harp, but if it didn't make top 5 on this list, the Animusic community might burn me at the stake lol) 6. Resonant Chamber (Thought this one was boring as a child, but the music has definitely grown on me over the years) 7. Acoustic Curves (It was very hard to decide whether to rate this one above or below Resonant Chamber; they are neck and neck in my opinion. It really just depends on how I'm feeling on any given day) 8. Fiber Bundles (This one, like Resonant Chamber, didn't hold my attention very well when I was young, but the music has grown on me) 9. Aqua Harp (In complete contrast to what he says about it, my favorite part is near the end when all the instruments are playing together; the harmonies are beautiful, and I almost always find myself humming the 'cello' part as it plays) 10. Future Retro (Classic Animusic. Catchy tune, interesting animation, not much else to say) 11. Starship Groove (Repetitive, not much variety in motifs or instruments) 12. Drum Machine (Better than Gyro Drums in my opinion, due to the neat novelty of a massive (steampunk vibes, anyone?) machine that plays drums on its own; it's fun to watch) 13. Pipe Dream 2 (Unnecessary, but not necessarily unwelcome, sequel. The first half is kinda dull, but the second half picks it back up) 14. Pogo Sticks (Music is kinda bland and very repetitive, personally never really found the animation to be particularly interesting either) 15. Gyro Drums (The electronic section is kinda cool, but it's short and the rest is rather uninteresting) Whew, this comment ended up being a lot longer than I expected it to be lol Was not planning on writing an entire mini essay at 2:41 AM, but here I am. Time to go grab a glass of ice cold water before 3 AM hits lol Just my two cents on the matter.
I strongly disagre about that because the favorite song I like this album is acoustic Curves it looks like an experiment lab which is a cylinder like place that has a dark hole let's see robotic like guitars coming up
YES! This was awesome. Good choices overall. Thought I'd share my tier list as well. Honestly, my list is based on 80% music and 20% video + 120% nostalgia. 15: Aqua harp (literally the worst) 14: Stick FIgures (I have no recollection of this song, which makes it only better than Aqua Fail) 13: Fibre Bundles (Just rubs me the wrong way?) 12: Drum Machine (Mediocre at best) 11: Pipe Dream (Overrated, but the first decently good song) 10: Gyro Drums (It would do) 9: Pipe Dream 2 (Electric Boogaloo...... I'll show myself out) 8: Resonance Chamber (Would be higher if the other stuff wasn't so good) 7: Cathedral Pictures (Just solid) 6: Pogo Sticks (A little repetitive, but would recommend) 5: Acoustic Curves (Stuck in my head. ALL. THE. TIME.) 4: Future Retro (This is apparently devicive) 3: Starship Groove (Spaceship spaceship spaceship!) 2: Harmonic Voltage (We agree here) 1: HEAVY LIGHT (Perfection)
I want Aqua Harp to be my alarm clock. It is not the best in animation and music but I can't say it is the worst, I would say none of them are mediocre or bad.
@@BukuiZhao No offense taken. It is good to hear that people enjoy Aqua Harp, it just isn't for me. Of all the songs in the Animusic Catalogue it is the only one I will not listen to. I have relistened to everything since I made this post and I think my views on all of these hold. The only thing I will say is that I might put Pipe Dream 2 over Resonance Chamber. Oh yeah, and except for Aqua Harp I find all these songs enjoyable to listen to. In no way are any of the songs terrible, I just find Stick Figures to be the least compelling to me.

Personally, I always found all 15 songs to be amazing in both music and animation, especially for their time. There isn't a single one I'd describe as "meh" or "mediocre"... So it's difficult for me to understand most of the negative criticisms in this video, but I appreciate the in-depth analysis
I was honestly surprised his harshness to Pipe Dream for it's animation. There's a lot of activity there imo
@@SR388_Zebes Agree. Plus Aqua Harp is one of my favorite one and I actually want Aqua Harp to be my alarm clock. I don't understand why he thinks aqua Harp is the worst.

Aqua harps is one of my favorites personally
Same here man
7:03 have you ever seen a concert hall? warm lighting is common especially in older ones.
Ever since I met Animusic for the first time (Pipe Dream), I prefer the realistic-looking animations. I remember that I hardly could convince a friend of mine it wasn't a real machine.
In my top 5 there are three realistic animations (1, 2, 5):
5. Acoustic Curves
4. Starship Groove
3. Fiber Bundles
2. Pipe Dream
1. Resonant Chamber
Both the first and second one were my favorites, my parents bought both complete sets in the early 2000s and I would watch them like they were movies
If I would have to simply rate my least favorite piece it would still be "great".
Pipe Dream 2 just tickles my head in a nice way, and it's just so nice
I came back to rewatch this and why the hell does this have so many dislikes? Its undeserved
Because a lot of his rankings are very controversial
@AndyBigMac the takes ain't even that bad i agree with a lot of it
My personal list (using the same kind of criteria-music and animation):
Appreciate your write-up, and cheers!
justice for pipe dream
And for Aqua Harp
The one with the guitars and fountain of little jumping balls are my favorites
My top themes from Animusic is Pipe Dream, Aqua Harp, Stick Figures, Pipe Dream 2, Future Retro, Cathedral Pictures, Fiber Bundles, and Resonant Chamber.
I like the Pipe Dream 2 better than the original. The music sounds better to me.
Future retro, Gyro Drums and Resonant Chambers are my favs.
I like both the music and the Animation.
Also, love the theories mention at the beginning.

... now, on to watching the video.
No idea why everyone likes Heavy Light so much, I'd personally rank it well in the middle of my rankings because its subpar animation. Drum Machine and Pipe Dream 1 and 2 top my list.
I personally think it sounds the best. The chord changes in it are just bliss

15. Acoustic Curves
14. Drum Machine

I personally like Acoustic Curves a lot and Pipe Dream 2 better than original. Though I agree Harmonic Voltage is really good. Would really like a explanation (only if that is convenient for you)
This is honestly a pretty decent video essay from such a small channel
I personally enjoy all of these pieces. I don't think any of it is bad in any way. I guess I'm more simple i guess
I don't agree with most of what you said but I am still happy for hearing someone else's opinion on Animusic
I personally really like Aqua Harp. Sure it’s not the best but it’s very relaxing. Sounds like something that could come out of Super Mario Galaxy.

I would say Pipe Dream 2 is better than the original, same points in this video. However I do agree with you.
I feel like this is trying to exude the image of an objective ranking the vast majority of your reasons is just personal preference
Welcome to the land of underrated I'm vlog man and I'll be your tour guide
Cool, cool, cool, cool, cool, cool, cool, cool, ccccoooooooolllll, really COOL.
The transition in drum machine is great though
ngl resonant chamber kinda slaps
pogo sticks is absolutely terrifying
"this one is personally my favorite and that's why it's coming in at our number 2 spot"
You need to research progressive rock to appreciate a lot of this.
I will never understand why you guys love future retro so much
Because our ears work?
To be honest I am extremely surprised with your harshness at Pipe Dream.
same
It’s honestly the most original
The music is 🔥
The animation is 🔥
Ain't no way you just dissed drum machine like that
how dare you be rude 😢
"...the balls..."
My personal top three favorites:
#3: Fiber bundles
(Groovy, but not as groovy compared to the others)
#2: Heavy light
(don't like the song that much when the sniper lasers come in, they sound out of tune for some reason.)
#1: Harmonic Voltage
Harmonic Voltage gives me a sense of sadness and nostalgia, even though I didn't hear it before in my childhood.
Reason why they sound out of tune is because of the portamento
The synth glides up each note
Dang I just disagree with everything you said pretty much lol oh well to each his own.
Your probably a pop/alternative only guy I think. Like when you were analyzing acoustic curves there are two obvious melodies he’s switching back-and-forth with using fantastic transitions. With such a warm sound as well. I think as you learn more about music and mature your musical pallet you’ll see the genius in it.
Yeah it feels like he has a lack of understanding in regards to deviation of forms from the main types used in music
You forgot ball machine
In my opinion all of the songs are great and I would say none are bad or mediocre, and all are good. Aqua Harp is one of my favorite ones. Pipe Dream (both the orig. and 2) are both actually better.
In fact, I like them so much that I can't tell my absolute favorite, but from what I would say the worst is Drum Machine (because it is repetitive and only has drums and no real melody, but it is only my least favorite and I still like it).
Edit: So here is my list from worst to best:
15: Drum Machine.
I do not have any complains about this that I have in most others.
growing up, i thought pipe dream was real and thought it was the coolest thing ever lol

Fiber bundles is a mood for me
Resonant chamber for me had me accidentally fell asleep on cuz melody was so calming and is like a lullaby making me snore
(Worst to best)

12. Pipe dream 2
11. Heavy light
10. Pogo sticks
9. Resonant chamber
8. Aqua harp
7. Stick figures
6. Harmonic voltage
5. Gyro drums
4. Drum machine
3. Fiber bundles
2. Acoustic curves
1.Starship groove
Starship groove slaps
There's something wring with you, this list is so out of wack. Future Retro at number 15!!?!? I've never met a person who doesn't have future retro as one of their favs. You shouldn't exist /j
@@rainbowsong909 Wow that is so rude. Please respect other's opinions. You don't know, maybe he/she likes Future Retro but likes all the ones better? Just like me I like all of them but some more than the others. I have never seen anyone being so rude over an opinion they don't agree. In fact this comment is so rude I think if you persist I will have to report this. No offense.
@@BukuiZhao Bro chill goddamn, I thought it was funny I didn't mean it in a rude way at all
@@rainbowsong909 OK but please just don't comment offensive stuff
Acoustic Curves and Future Retro are the best and it's not even close. From there things like Pogo Sticks, Heavy Light, Harmonic Voltage, and Fiber Bundles take the honorable mentions. A few classics like the Pipe Dreams follow those. The rest I don't remember as well and would have to relisten to rank exactly but there's none I explicitly dislike.
I'm gonna agree that Heavy Light is by far the best Animusic video.
What I don't agree with is your pronunciation of gyro (jye-roh).
My baby brother like aqua harp
Based
The best ones in the first one are future retro, stick figures, aqua harp, pipe dream, acoustic curves, and harmonic voltage
If you haven’t, you should rank The Sound of Twelve.
lmao i'd like to see this guy create one of these
I have to agree with pipe dream.
My ranking
15: Acoustic / I don’t really like it at all, animation and music. The chimes at the end absolutely KILL ME
14: Aqua harp / Exactly what you said. Boring animation and the extra instruments kinda ruin it
13: Drum machine / Really boring animation and the music makes no sense. This is what happens when all of the instruments are random drums
12: pipe dream 2 /After listening to pipe dream 1 for so long, I just CANT get used to this
11: Future Retro / Pretty cool animation and music is catchy. Jut a tad bit too repetitive and poppy for me
10: Harmonic voltage / I’m so sorry, it’s just to slow and boring for me lol
9: Pipe dream 1 / An iconic one. Pretty decent music and decent animation
8: Fiber bundles / I’ve only listened to this once but when I did. I thought the same as you, music a tad repetitive tho
7: Resonant Chambers / Decent animation and the song is a banger lol
6: Cathedral Pictures / Great animation and good music. Especially that middle section
5: Gyro drums / What drum machine should’ve been
4: Stick figures / Best music ever, this song is a BANGER
3: Heavy lights / Fantastic animation and one of the grooviest songs in all of ani music
2: Spaceship groove / Fantastic animation and fantastic music, I love songs with odd time signatures
1: Pogo sticks / Iconic is all I can say.
Pipe dream is the coolest
My “Least to Most” favorite Animusic videos are:
Gyro Drums
Pipe Dream 2
Harmonic Voltage
Resonant Chamber
Fiber Bundles
Drum Machine
Pipe Dream
Starship Groove
Cathedral Pictures
Aqua Harp
Future Retro
Stick Figures
Pogo Sticks
Heavy Light
Acoustic Curves
IDK why you put Pipe dream 2 near the bottom. I like that very much/
I don't really agree with you in the beginning of the list. Pipe dream and Stick Figures should have been a little later up the list.
My top 3:
1: starship groove
2: acoustic curves
3: future retro
Oh no I'm about to be offended
found this watcing an animusic vid pipe dream
Is this guy the Gordon Ramsay of music
Heavy light goes crazy, definitely my favorite one too.
"Just drums" you don't realize all of those gears
Every animusic video is my favorite
Nostalgic AF
By the way, one more additional thing, drum machine includes BELLS.
Well can’t be worse than that “sprinkler sound beat “ in music all kids like today and sounds the same in every dang new song if you can call that music!.
HEAVY LIGHHHHHHT
I think pogo sticks is quite popular.
Man just said pipe dream is on 14th place, what a brave soul. (In my opinion, I think pipe dream is 4th)
“The balls.”
Edit: animusic was a huge part of my childhood too!
Homie straight dissing on pipe dream.
7:28 I honestly don’t think the animation is Gross at all. Maybe for it’s time It was pretty good but now it feels kinda timeless.
Ima be honest I either totally agreed or completely disagreed with almost every piece's placement lol
-Gyro Drums and Pogo Sticks are probably my 2 least favorite of the 15, whereas he ranks them fairly high.
-I do agree that Heavy Light and Harmonic Voltage are the two best pieces.
-I vehemently disagree with him ranking Aqua Harp and Pipe Dream at the bottom. (I get that it's all based on his own opinion, but disliking bells for seemingly no apparent reason just doesn't justify throwing them under the bus, if you ask me.)
-Stick Figures, Cathedral Pictures, Resonant Chamber, and Acoustic Curves have some very solid music, whereas I find Starship Groove and Pogo Sticks to be rather repetitive and dull.
Some things to note:
-I don't care about the animations as much as I do the music; the music plays much more of a role into how much I like each piece. That being said, a really good animation can positively add to the experience and drastically improve the way the music is perceived. (This is, of course, the whole point of Animusic, after all)
-Having grown up as a band kid playing with various bands, symphony orchestras, and other groups, I do have respect for percussion, I just don't particularly enjoy unpitched percussion when it's all by itself, so my rankings of Drum machine and Gyro Drums aren't going to be super high.
All things considered, this is my personal ranking from best to worst (Keep in mind, I still like them all):
1. Heavy Light
(Has always been the best one in my heart; it's just so hauntingly beautiful. Never fails to give me chills)
2. Harmonic Voltage
(I love the bridge section when the green laser pretzel gets its turn on the tower)
3. Stick Figures
(The low brass feature after the slow section is really fun)
4. Cathedral Pictures
(That ending is pure majestic pipe organ awesomeness)
5. Pipe Dream
(Arguably Animusic's most iconic and well-known piece. Musically I would rate it between Fiber Bundles and Aqua Harp, but if it didn't make top 5 on this list, the Animusic community might burn me at the stake lol)
6. Resonant Chamber
(Thought this one was boring as a child, but the music has definitely grown on me over the years)
7. Acoustic Curves
(It was very hard to decide whether to rate this one above or below Resonant Chamber; they are neck and neck in my opinion. It really just depends on how I'm feeling on any given day)
8. Fiber Bundles
(This one, like Resonant Chamber, didn't hold my attention very well when I was young, but the music has grown on me)
9. Aqua Harp
(In complete contrast to what he says about it, my favorite part is near the end when all the instruments are playing together; the harmonies are beautiful, and I almost always find myself humming the 'cello' part as it plays)
10. Future Retro
(Classic Animusic. Catchy tune, interesting animation, not much else to say)
11. Starship Groove
(Repetitive, not much variety in motifs or instruments)
12. Drum Machine
(Better than Gyro Drums in my opinion, due to the neat novelty of a massive (steampunk vibes, anyone?) machine that plays drums on its own; it's fun to watch)
13. Pipe Dream 2
(Unnecessary, but not necessarily unwelcome, sequel. The first half is kinda dull, but the second half picks it back up)
14. Pogo Sticks
(Music is kinda bland and very repetitive, personally never really found the animation to be particularly interesting either)
15. Gyro Drums
(The electronic section is kinda cool, but it's short and the rest is rather uninteresting)
Whew, this comment ended up being a lot longer than I expected it to be lol
Was not planning on writing an entire mini essay at 2:41 AM, but here I am. Time to go grab a glass of ice cold water before 3 AM hits lol
Just my two cents on the matter.
Pipe dream 2 slaps
Personally the placing for pipe dream is not correct because it is better than most. Why do you think they made a second one
I strongly disagre about that because the favorite song I like this album is acoustic Curves it looks like an experiment lab which is a cylinder like place that has a dark hole let's see robotic like guitars coming up
why didn't you rate pipe dream 3?
Since it is not official. Animusic 3 is currently on hold and people are only making fan made versions which are not official versions.
YES! This was awesome. Good choices overall. Thought I'd share my tier list as well. Honestly, my list is based on 80% music and 20% video + 120% nostalgia.
15: Aqua harp (literally the worst)
14: Stick FIgures (I have no recollection of this song, which makes it only better than Aqua Fail)
13: Fibre Bundles (Just rubs me the wrong way?)
12: Drum Machine (Mediocre at best)
11: Pipe Dream (Overrated, but the first decently good song)
10: Gyro Drums (It would do)
9: Pipe Dream 2 (Electric Boogaloo...... I'll show myself out)
8: Resonance Chamber (Would be higher if the other stuff wasn't so good)
7: Cathedral Pictures (Just solid)
6: Pogo Sticks (A little repetitive, but would recommend)
5: Acoustic Curves (Stuck in my head. ALL. THE. TIME.)
4: Future Retro (This is apparently devicive)
3: Starship Groove (Spaceship spaceship spaceship!)
2: Harmonic Voltage (We agree here)
1: HEAVY LIGHT (Perfection)
Lolz at Electric Boogaloo reference. We must be the same age hahaha
"Aqua Fail"? You think Pipe Dream is overrated? I disagree with these points but I agree with some of your other points. No offense.
I want Aqua Harp to be my alarm clock. It is not the best in animation and music but I can't say it is the worst, I would say none of them are mediocre or bad.
@@BukuiZhao
No offense taken.
@@brendandangelo715 I understand but in that case why did you say "the first decently good song"?
Gyro Drums and Acoustic Curves are not my best picks it is ranked as the worst themes I played, so both of them ranked and numbered 14 &15.
I don't know how Animusic isn't more well known
* eats the laser pretzel *
But, the top four themes in Animusic is Pogo Sticks, Starship Groove, Heavy Light, and Harmonic Voltage.
