First time Reacting to Akala, listened to him for the first time yesterday, I know I'm late to the party but yo, mad respect. The lyrical content is Grade A Certified organicz bro.. good ish, Glad I was able to finally discover it. Appreciate the suggestion, there were a few people that told me to check it out. I threw him on the spotify, and I'm gonna be exploring the catalogue for a while. Big ups!

I can vouch for Akala being a nice, humble guy in real life. Met him after a show and had so much to say to him...but pretty much choked, because...wtf could I say to him, that he doesn't already know? Man is incredible and doing what I've always hoped an artist would one day. Talks about Britain's REAL, insidious History and socioeconomic fallout from it...and it's dope.

Uk & US ARTISTS ARE BOTH AMAZING BUT FORTUNATELY FOR US THEY ARE ALSO VERY DIFFERENT. I THINK UK ARTISTS ARE ELITE LEVEL MASTERS WHEN IT COMES TO CREATING POETRY LYRICALLY SUPERIOR. BUT THEY THEMSELVES WILL ALWAYS BE GREATFULL TO THE US FOR INSISTING THEY WILL HAVE THEIR SHARE OF SPACE TO BE SEEN AND HEARD WITHIN THE INDUSTRY.

This is a masterclass in just about everything. Bars, content, flow, integrity the lot. This is for me the best fitb.
Not really for reaction but his lecture on the lost pages of African history to the Oxford Union is well worth watching. Taught me more than school ever did in an hour (Akala | Full Address and Q&A | Oxford Union) the mans a genius. He is also an expert on Shakespeare and does a TED talk on Shakespear/hiphop (Hip-Hop & Shakespeare? Akala at TEDxAldeburgh). He mentions Wretch32 (three two) who is another lyricist.

i love this for the obvious 2nd part even though its all good but for me i love seeing youtubers who automatically bop or move their head to the beat so as to seem into the song but with this they get to a point where they go fuck that and start listening. its the epitome of reactions and i love it .

I think the Fire in the Booths are all pre-written freestyles (the 1980s definition of freestyle, rather than the make it up on the fly type freestyle)

just to point out that fire in the booth started as a freestyle session but that stopped quite quickly, now its mostly prewrittens but thats because charlie wanted people to come with the best they have and not every rapper can freestyle
Ok that makes sense. I actually really like the way he changed it because then after you watch the fire in the booth you can listen to the actual songs. And it really is true that it takes a certain beast to murk the freestyle. I suppose if someone was ballsy enough they could step in their and flame it unwritten but the pre written is so much more polished for 99% of mcs

Word. Akalas might have been my first reaction to fire in the booth, but my understanding of a freestyle was that it needed to be an unwritten freestyle. I didn't realize using pre written lyrics on a random beat was considered freestyle until fire in the booths, so I actually learned even more than the 🔥 content Akala always brings to the table with this one

RegularZig I'd start with Stereotype, then go on to his Slut Freestyle, it has to be the freestyle though, not the video. Then there's his Letters to Krept etc.
They're the most common ones but there are loads of more humorous and joyful tracks that he has, one that really shows how much he enjoyed his craft is called RMF and NOBODY REACTS TO IT, could be a good in for you.
Start with those though and you'll get his drift and good views too, Brits still love seeing what others make of him.
