What a fantastic interview, at last someone talking about struggles most people can relate to. I was almost last on my first ultra (spine sprint 2021)..look forward to seeing more videos in this series..
Finally catching this one. very inspiring listening to it while I am due to do a tempo session and it is pissing it down with rain. Better lace up those running shoes!
Wow, great idea this new series. As a mid- and backpacker myself, and occasional racevolunteer, I am always very inspired by the last finishers in ultras. The fast runners can't imagine how hard it is to have the cut-off chasing you and being out there two or three times as long as them. True heroes!
This is a great idea and really enjoyed this interview. Last is never really last is it as you said. There are all the people that didn't finish, didn't start, didn't even think of doing something so demanding. After having the fear of being last, I can say from experience that it's actually really fun and my experience was that I was made to feel special.
Well done Lizzie! Great interview 👏 I was a DNS for Arc 50 this year after breaking my elbow 10 days before 🤦♀️ But I’m lining up for it in 2024 and can’t wait! Always great to hear experiences from mid-back of the pack and especially other mums taking on these challenges 😊 See you there Claire!
Hmm, a bivvy bag and whistle are pretty much standard kit for all ultras in New Zealand. I even carry mine on training runs cos you never know (and I just never take them out of my pack).
Hi i will do the race in January 2025...and as i am from Austria i may not recce the route before... would you know at what KM the part of the dunes route may be where one could get lost very easily? maybe i can walk it on the days before the race...kr, alex
I ran a 60k , came in 34th ! Out of 36 . 😂 had a great time too . Well done!! Keep trail running fr$$
Amazing! Well done you, fantastic achievement :)
If you are last you have beaten everyone that dropped out, which in the case of the Arc is a lot !! Congratulations
Exactly! Well said :)

It is only a few km, have a look on an OS map, you could definitely walk this section to recce it if you come a few days before the race
