- this is my list of the most overrated sneakers ever...
to be honest, the list isn't exhaustive, there are so many sneakers out there that are massively overrated.
for me the main reason a sneaker is overrated is because of its price, sneakers can become overrated due to an increase in hype and demand and the associated surge in price.
this list is just my opinion and shouldn't be taken too seriously.

All Nikes are overrated, you shouldn't have to spend $300+ to get any new Nike shoe

@@playerwil increase in after market pricing is based only on hype. If these retro models were never hype they would still be sitting for retail or on sale
I love and would love to own a lot of these sneakers, like the L&F and the Chunky Dunky. But I refuse to pay the premium price caused by people that bot and steal pairs away from fans that just want some cool shoes and drive the costs up. I'm all for resellers and making some money off of hyped up shoes, but when a huge company like Nike releases 100k pairs and the average person has to buy at 2x the cost from reselling I start to draw the line. There's always more shoes to go after.
I got the j1 Chicago off a sales rack in 1994. I only bought them as a beater for maybe £25. Something like that.
Man, it was god awful. Most uncomfortable shoe I'd ever had. I've never bought a j1 since. Ghastly shoe, lol.
Most overrated shoe of all time, imho.
Thank you for this rake, especially the chicago. Wanted the into the spiderverse pair, released on my birthday and its one of my favourite films of all time. The hype messed up that release for me :/

Yeah, the mag is over hyped/overrated, but mainly because of the price and them being made in such small numbers.
Nike should've waited until they could do a GR with them. I actually love the silhouette and the film they're from. I actually went to the cinema to see back to the future 2 in 1989.
I do have the nike air pressure, which was nikes first pump shoe. Also from 1989 and designed by tinker Hatfield.
It is similar looking to the mag and comes in that awesome NES colourway that was popular in the late 80s.
Agree on a majority of these. There’s a lot of people who hype up the Mags, yet you’ll never see them in walking around with them on feet. Take away the price tag, and I say people still wouldn’t be wearing them. They come across like those mischief boots. Good for a wow factor wear, then dies off.
Heavily agree on the Chicago 1 take. So much hype around the releases, but you never see them on feet.

Agree on everyone except the mags, the mags separates itself from the other by the simple fact that it is a piece of art, I look at the mags just as I look at the paintings in the Van Gogh museum

Agreed man. Maybe its just my broke ass mentality but i would never pay 1k or above for sneakers. Dont get me wrong i really like some of em but i cant get rid of that thought of production cost.
You ask the really challenging question of how much is too much to pay for a sneaker. The argument could be made that any pair north of X amount of dollars is overrated and not worth the investment. I wear my sneakers, so putting $500 on my feet feels pretty arrogant. There are pairs that come out that I really like, but even if I hit on them for retail, I wouldn't wear them because they are just too much. Retail is expensive on most pairs. I dunno, thought provoking. Great content.
Honestly, I agree with most of these takes. I don't think most of these shoes even look that great in my opinion or are very versatile to wear- the high prices are a reflection of them being over-hyped for what they really are purely aesthetics-wise. The Chicago 1's are one of my favorite shoes of all time because of how clean they are and surprisingly easy to style for a red sneaker, but even then, they are impossible to get your hands on for a reasonable price now. And most of the rest you mentioned seemed a lot harder to style and would probably not see much wear.

just picked up a pair of the black off white forces and, got them for a great deal but my god the hunt was constant for a solid month, was refreshing ebay every waking hour

Maybe unpopular opinion but I hate the Nike Mags. They’re the ugliest, most ridiculous looking sneakers ever and I’ve never seen someone wear them and look good doing so

The regular Jordan 1 high Fragment is my most overrated shoe. a logo you could just carve in yourself with some patience and suddenly it's the greatest shoe ever to some people.
I think the opposite accually. I think they are the best looking travises next to the original highs, and that all other Travis Jordans besides the reverse mochas and maybe phantoms (bc they are peoples least favorite) are super overrated.
In reality none are worth the asking price tho

Chicago 1s are my favorite Jordan 1 colorway ever, and I think the resale prices of Chicago 1s prior to the last dance would disagree with your take. I think 85 Jordan 1s skyrocketed and a take on that is more accurate since you used to be able to grab them for under $1000
Only one I disagree with is the nike mags. Till this day I would still want this pair to wear. Hopefully someday nike finally makes them a gr since they havent been pushing the self lacing system lately. I cant really say theyre overpriced due to the low numbers that are available but as for hype I couldn’t wish for another shoe more

What would be a sneaker you would be willing to drop big dollars on? I'm on board with your take that there are many nice shoes that lose shine when the price goes obscene. But what would be a shoe worth the price, a must have in the collection that might be worth the investment? Might be a cool video.
Tbh apart from the Chicago/l&f 1s, u didn’t rly miss… remember copping a pair of noble red jordan 1 lows from JD a few months before the last dance came out cos it was the closest thing I could find to a Chicago 🤣

I love the Mars Yards, and the philosophy behind them, but the prices on them are insane, strictly due to their rarity. If they were under $1k i would have considered it as they are something of a grail for me. But I have my limits. and the recent news about his studio practices have dramatically cooled down my tom sachs fandom in general.
In my opinion, the only appealing things about the Red Octobers are the history of the release, and the design inspired by Akira, which is one of my favorite movies

Nah that’s cap - in 2015 there was no hype for Chicago 1 in fact the biggest jordan 1 of 2015 wasn’t even the Chicago 1 it was the shattered backboard - in fact the 2015 unc 1s went on sale bro - same with storms - everyone was all over yeezy and uktraboost in 2015
I agree with every single pick. I want some of those shoes myself but for a lot of the reasons you mentioned I simply can't bring myself to pull the trigger on any of them.

I love nike but a lot of the cooler shoes are stupid expensive thats why I stick to brands like saucony, asics, etc

A lot of these shoes fall into the category of "I absolutely love them but wouldn't want to wear them because of the attention they draw and the monetary value attached".
Random annoying kid is basically non-existent, but wear a pair of lobsters or offwhites and that almost non existent person will approach you. Even worse than random annoying kid is random annoying mugger.
Also it drives me crazy that lobsters are rare because they're my favorite looking dunks, I hope that they re-release lobsters once a year after the what the lobsters drop.

The mars yard and air mag do not belong on this list. They are original designs. They aren’t just stupid hypebeast collab colorways of existing models. They are unique from the ground up. There are no alternatives. They are the only silhouettes of their kind. The air mags are wearable. Watch whistlindiesel he puts them through the ringer. Cudi and other rappers have worn them too. It’s not just a prop.
Basically you can name any shoe over 6-700 and I will say they aren't worth the price.

I agree with most, but the AirMags aren't overrated, they're overpriced. They 100% deserve the hype, but the price tag is what kills it. Sneaker is still one of the most dope sneakers to ever release. A release I wanted since I was a kid. I don't have them unfortunately and likely never will, but that doesn't mean they don't deserve every BIT of hype they get.

To me, a lot of Nike are overrated, but the designs are nice. However to me, New Balance is one of the most overrated hot sneakers. Not only are they ugly, their regular shoes are not even that nice, the materials are dog shit.

The Chunky Dunky’s for me are a special pair, they were the first sneakers I won in a draw and that got me into collecting so will always be special to me.
