"You can see Hazoret's severed head on top of the arena."
Does Spike understand the concept of statues?
"They actually made a cast from Abraham Lincoln's corpse and made a statue from the cast. The history books didn't tell how us tall he actually was."
It's Hazoret's Monument with an arena built around it
@@briankuczynski6884also stone
He does. But he chose not to.
Yeah that confused me lol
It is absolutely crazy to me how the power level has changed in the last 10 years in Modern.
We used to be excited about 4-cost 5/5s with downsides.
These days, Wizards prints a 3-mana 7/5 in blue with a balanced downside/upside, and Spike just shrugs and goes "eh, it's fine I guess" and moves on.
Standard today is what Modern was back in the day. Power creep is wild.
Couple things I didn't see mentioned.
1. Malevolent Rumble is REALLY good with Shifting Woodlands. You can look for the woodlands, dump omniscience into the graveyard, AND ramp yourself for the T3 activation with 1 card. So imo if it goes in a deck it is one that uses Shifting Woodlands.
2. Deep analysis flashback automatically triggers Sneaky Snacker. So if you can discard Deep Analysis or you can be drawing multiple cards with satoru recurring this should be very possible. It also is just castable as a 2 mana 2/1 flyer which while not great is relevant. So this might end up being a card that goes into the Satoru / Frog deck they seem to be pushing just to help enable Flare of Denial. In general that deck seems to have the highest density of blue/black cards to really enable the blue flare while caring the least about the sacrifice cost. Flying sometimes is super relevant for attacking around a stalled board but is this better than some of the other things like Amalgam's? Not sure.
Holy shit I did not realize rumble put the rest of the card in grave. Seems good.
Sneaky Snacker also triggers on any "sac a creature as a cost, draw 2 cards" spell cast on your turn. Deadly Dispute is probably the best version of this effect, since it can be used to sac a Tamiyo clue on T2 and immediately flip her as well.
put this comment at the top. Rumble sounding scary...
1. I had the same thought while watching that segment, I was very surprised spike didn't also. Shifting Woodlands is ace !
@chaselewis - the issue with the rumbling woodland deck would be you can’t really use og emrakul as the omniscience payoff. You’d risk hitting her off rumbling and shuffling your yard away.
Shrieking Drake's flavor text should've been "I'm not gonna lie, this shit was some good exercise, like it's good to get out, get the pen working"
LoL
Ugins binding is just straight up a utron card till someone figures out a blue eldrazi deck.
Long live utron
I think it's more of a Synthesizer Affinity card.
Because you can utilize it to clear their board then you can alpha with your Karnstructs.
Yea spike didn't mention activating the card off of an affinity creature@@philcoats6812
Discarding it to thrist for knowledge instead of casting is also a real thing, specially since you'd probably also be running the new emrakul. I think I may actually prefer it to casting the binding to be honest
nah it's bad. doesn't pitch to fon and subtlety and you only have 1-2 cards that trigger it
Should be noted with Ugin's Binding is that it triggers off of the Nulldrifter evoke cast
came to mention that. That is such a powerful interaction
O fug
It also triggers off of Sojourner's Companion/Myr Enforcer, which affinity already wants more of because they're probably running Ugin's Labyrinth now.
I think the playability Ugin's binding is directly tied to if nulldrifter /or deep-fiend being the go to for fueling labyrinth
It can also be flashed back by playing affinity cards, which we now have 12 of.
@@aidanm.655 I doubt affinity wants ro waste time casting this. Being a bad 3 mana spell is a very real drawback
We are in a wild place when you can unearth your 7/5 and it won't do shit.
Rotting Regisaur has been legal for four years.
@@blahxdx very fair
rip 4 mana 7/7 (sorry for the hearthstone meme)
Heat, push, binding, solitude say hi
7/5 vanilla's have been unplayable for years and years.
I think nantuko is going to be really good in Amulet Titan. If you have an amulet and a bounce land in hand, it goes infinite with grazer, dryad, and titan.
That's amazing to tutor out with pact even if it's just a 1 of.
You can deckbuild and theorycraft as much as you want. Turn 1 Grief + Scam is always there to ruin your day.
Subtlety to ruin scam’s day
Scam more important than ever. We’re about to enter a period of stupid busted free mana ramps, endless combos, crazy aggro with eldrazi.
I really like Jolted Awake for Food decks, it gets back most of the creatures you want to play and it can also get back your cookbooks that you’ve sacrificed/discarded/got destroyed
I think Springheart Nantuko is a little less fragile than you're giving it credit for just because of the Bestow ability. Like yes, the Nantuko itself dies to everything, but to completely answer it, your opponent is usually going to need two pieces of removal, one for the creature that you Bestow it on to, and then another one to clean up the Nantuko left behind. It's also cute that if you put it on an Arboreal Grazer as you mentioned, it not only puts the Grazer out of bolt range, but it also forces your opponent to spend a removal spell on the Grazer, which *typically* isn't where you're wanting to have to spend your removal spells.
Nantuko+Grazer also just goes infinite really easily. One Amulet gets you infinite blockers, a second Amulet gets you infinite mana on top of that
Watching these videos on my lunch break has been the highlight of my work days these past two weeks. Nothing else has gotten me as hype for MH3, I can't wait to see what incredible creations you brew up first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for putting this together. It is so nice to have the comprehensive list put into a relatively compact video.
Kinda late comment here but he seems low on Arena of Glory. Not sure if he knows that the exert ability can potentially give haste to 2 creatures. Magical Christmas land play: attack with 3 Ragavans on turn 2. (Or possibly 4 if you're playing with Simian Spirit Guide)
I really enjoy your PowerPoint videos. Thank you for taking so much of your time to make them. Also, you have a glorious head of hair. I'm balding and jelly af 😭
Thank you so much spike! These series are so awesome!
Very very excited for Nadu & White Orchid Phantom. Lots of great cheap (1-3 MV) creatures in this set. Love to see it!
sneaky snacker seems like a pauper card. Good in a brainstorm format
It's crazy how much of a handsome lad Spike is
sneaky snacker is pretty crazy with literally any red rummage effect ever....
Hello Spike!
When I look at sneaky snacker I see a very compelling reason to consider grixis Phoenix. Its a valid turn two play, very good discard fodder, and when youre trying to get your Phoenix's on you MP1, you've already drawn a card for turn so it only demands two cantrips.
Re: Guide of Souls, Recruiter of the Guard and Primal Prayers...
The only line my tiny brain can think of to win the game unfortunately requires {3} mana the turn you go off. Recruiter of the Guard fetches Veldaken Aethermage which can then be Wizardcycled for Acererak, the Archlich, and then you can loop Acererak with Primal Prayers if you have the Guide of Souls in play. 30:41
Modern missing a Cavern Harpy equivalent means you can't just tutor and play Ice-Fang Coatl (with Recruiter of the Guard) and loop casting it until you find your win condition in the Primal Prayers deck. Won't stop me from going 0-5 in the leagues with it!
He’s dissing in Ugin’s Binding because he hears the rise of U Tron
Only 3 views in 7 seconds spike is washed
The spike has rusted
It’s really sad to see honestly
I'm here at 4min and he's got 20k views😱
that red land is insane. combo decks gonna enjoy it muchly
arena of glory let's you haste up a warren instigator for double lackey triggers, which is sweet. Also giving conspicuous snoop haste as well.
What happened at 24:45?
Ugin's Binding can kinda work in a shell that looks like UR Emerge decks from Pioneer?
Nulldrifter and Elder Deep-Fiend both triggers it while costing waay less than 7 actual factual mana, while both works with Ugin's Labyrinth and Eldrazi Temple.
too deep, just run it in affinity to bounce the oppos board and swing in with karnstructs
Malevolent ramble reads very similar to Satyr Wayfinder to me. Better selection, worse body, not an actual creature, but the ramp is very relevant. Maybe there's room for it in the copy land deck? I also like how it gets both creatures and enchantments and gives you a body for chthonian nightmare. Probably not very good but I'd keep it in mind.
Devourer of destinies has mw shook for playing against tron. Smoothes the tron plan possibly not needing green backup for consistancy anymore, pitchable to ugin labrynth, castable off tron with cast trigger removal to forever zone. Oof
Hear me out: Utron featuring Thirst for Knowledge, new Emrakul, Nulldrifter and Ugins Binding!
conspicous snoop with the exert land sounds really fun
Back in my day we called land cycles like that "check" lands cuz they check for a land type
“No card I really want to be giving haste to with arena”
*Prime time enters the chat*
Prime time is definitely not a card you wanna give haste to with this since Amulet Titan already gives it with the boros land and when you search it the Titan is already in play making this useless. Its good with Dreadhorde Arcanist tho
Delaney with phantom and recruiter seems fun.
Why would you flash in Hydroelectric specimen to sack to flare of denial.... when you could just cast flare of denial? 😵💫
I think the one you are off on is ugins binding. Unlikely main deck but I think it will be a very strong sideboard card for any colorless/blue big mana deck that plays against something like 4c omnath (if it still exists post mh3). The idea it picks up leyline binding, murktide, omnath, every early drop, etc) means for the right deck it will be a potential 2 mana tempo play and at best a cyclonic rift on a stick
Springheart Nantuko is busted in Amulet. It goes Inifinite or near infinite with every creature not named Azusa lost but seeking
Decree of justice being F tier makes me incredibly sad.
Sneaky snacker goes well in hollow vine in vintage
I just noticed that Raptor doesn't shuffle the cards exiled back into library, not sure if it's intentional or not
Edit: it might not matter too much since it'll only be lands that aren't going back which isn't nothing but will mean that you need to be more aware of fetchables remaining in deck
I think it’s going to pair ok with Karn and casts Karn himself. Just leaving your artifact in a safer spot for a while. 😂
Spike you rock!
Best review content out there.
Spike should have talked obaut Quest for the Necropolis, it is a 2 mana reanimator at times. But good job as always.
malevolent rumble seems pretty good with chthonian nightmare. you can draw the nightmare it puts reanimation targets in the grave and gives you a creature to sac
Arena of glory cast my goblin guide and swiftspear, fast as fuck babyyyy
would love a vidoe of just a bunch of decks you’re gonna play when this drops maybe not the whole brewing process but just like show us the deck and say what decisions you made kinda like the techs
Thx for all the sweet contet
I was thinking sneaky snacker to be put into dredge as a experiment
Planar Genesis is obviously a big upgrade to Impulse, but I think it's worse than Growth Spiral. Growth Spiral's primary job is ramp, and what you want to do most of the time with it, while it helps dig towards your combo pieces. You're going to be playing a deck with a lot of lands so you'll have plenty in your hand. But Planar Genesis can only ever do one of the two - in order to ramp, you MUST use the card selection effect to find a land.
Planar genesis is a way better top deck though. It's not like you're getting card selection from growth spiral anyways.
@@Souperbs Doesn't matter. Your goal with the slot is to ramp. The card draw makes it better than things like Rampant Growth, but your primarily goal is to execute your game plan. Growth Spiral just helps you find your pay off as an add-on.
@@omerpockard7212 Okay in the scenario where you have an extra land and no payoff in your hand growth spiral has an edge, but if you drew your payoff and not the extra land then it doesn't matter either.
Area to Glory
Kroxa getting both the ETB and attack triggers
Attacking with two goyfs on turns 4.
Pretty much this card is to close games the turn you need to attack to close the game out of nowhere.
I believe you have to take Myr Enforcer and Sojourner's companion into consideration while evaluating Ugin's Binding. If you play an affinity type strategy it might be super strong
If there is a way to discard binding early then yes. Spending three man’s to bounce is too expensive.
If you are already casting your affinity creatures into synthesizer and making your karnstructs, aren't you already winning? Is a wipe that requires hoops to get to what was missing from the equation?
Jolted awake dark ritual with lotus bloom
Great series. Make it a tradition every time we have a new supplemental set that's modern legal. Next: Assassin's Creed :D
Arena of glory goes into rakdos goblins to give snoop haste
The fetchlands for pauper are going to be great.
Doesn't Ugin's Binding's ability from the yard trigger from something like and evoked nulldrifter? potentially turning it into a much earlier possibility?
ugin's binding triggers off of myr enforcer effects too. affinity isn't that great at putting it into the yard without casting it but it still seems like a strong interaction
The amount of times he mentioned mishras bauble only further reinforced my opinion that it should be banned. Enables too much for 0 mana in a game where spells supposedly require mana.
People said the same thing about Mox Opal and Simian Spirit Guide for YEARS until WotC finally took action. But instead of banning free spells, they're printing new ones with every single MH set. And now on top of that actual Sol Lands in Modern. The amount of power they have to put on cards that cost ACTUAL mana is insane by now. 4 drops that don't virtually end the game on the spot are borderline unplayable these days. At the same time, Splinter Twin and Birthing Pod remain on the banlist for...reasons.
Weirdest ban claim i have heard in a long time. Let people cook my brother. Also, poor drc, you are a mean person (I say this as a member of the DRC protection group)
@@addkite DRC, ledger shredder, slickshot showoff (prowess in general) , urzas saga, underworld breach, unholy heat,
Just a few of the things that are enabled by baubles existence.
Shreiking Drake also works well with Intruder Alarm
Galvanic discharge -> solar transformer ->aetherworks marvel can activate the marvel on turn three
The place i like ugins binding is affinity where you can trigger it for 0 with a myr enforcer and bounce all the blockers
no lie--dreamtide is gorgeous lol. What a weird guy.
Doesn't ugin's binding trigger off of nulldrifter, myr enforcer AND sojourner companion? There're probably others
that Im missing, seems
better than what you made it look like
the one actual home i like ugin's binding for is myr enforcer = cyclonic rift
Arena of Glory is not Hazoret's severed head, it's her monument.
Hmmm... what about the demon exiled with Agatha's Soul Cauldron? It maybe open some shenanigans with gravecrawlers and stitcher suppliers in a weird reanimator deck. Is maybe too much of a fantasy, but who knows
Is Sneaky snacker a vintage dredge card since it activates off of bazaar?
Isn’t Malevolent Rumble great in any Reanimator deck??
happy to give you this one for free: new merfolk should be called "flood moon"
Flare of denial looks solid in Dredge. Like...unless they have leyline of the void...4x amalgams, 4x nacromeba and then...maybe 4x hedron crab?
Even manaless dredge in modern has a little bit of protection now. Narcomoeba in hand? Pitch for subtlety, sac to flare?
Fantastic series a true credit to the game
Impulse and Growth Spiral should probably be on opposite sides as Goku and Vegeta in Super
Does Ugin’s Binding not work with affinity creatures?
Are magic players with dyslexia a thing or
Maybe there's a version of prowess that Arena of Glory goes in? I lot of the cards have haste already now, but perhaps there's a version where can change them out of others... prob not, but . Food for thought
Who else is here to see how good/badly this tier list aged in just 3 months? 😅
why no discussion of ugin's binding + cost reduction cards, like nulldrifter, frogmyr enforcer, elder deep fiend, etc.
the real question is, Does Urza's Incubator count as heartless summoning 5-8 for Acererak combo's?
30:08 You mean 3 card combo. 😅 Also not that I disagree but it's pretty funny how earlier you said 3 mana build around enchantments aren't good / viable in modern, yet Primal Prayers and Wilderness Reclamation are 4 mana. :)
I just find it interesting how 4 drops are more playable than 3 drops even though they're slower and require ramp. I think it's just because the 4 drop enchantments are more powerful but they occupy the same spot in the mana curve (t2 growth spiral into t3 Rec / Prayers). While for 3 mana enchantments you need fragile manadorks on turn 1 to make them remotely playable. Edit: I mean there's Synthesizer I guess
sneaky snacker is nuts in vintage dredge!!
Will it be good? In order to actually draw cards in dredge you have to not dredge when you draw. Will it still be played do you think?
Spike please let Arena of Glory keep the dream of melding phyrexian dragon engine and mishra, claimed by gix alive
PRECUSOR WORKS WITH FETCHLANDS
yeah spike sleeping on the fact that ugin's binding slots much easier in decks casting sojourner's companion and myr enforcer, although I do agree the card is really really slow if you have to cast the first half so I think in order for it to warrant the slot it needs to be discarded for value somehow before casting your 7 drop.
Arena of Glory giving a Murktide and DRC haste seems pretty strong or even 2 DRC.
Why would you want to spend RR for a murktide
Is ugins binding with up to 12 myr overseers not kinda sick? Probably just need some way to put it in the graveyard without casting it, kinda surprised he didn’t discuss this
6:05 I'm pretty sure it's a statue, not a severed head 😂😂
Do you guys think the tier list system got too lost in the sauce? Idk something tells me that it got too lost in the sauce
spoiler you can use ugin binding fron the grave when u play 3 mana nulldrifter
24:41 is it me or do some seconds of talking got edited out?
Im just here for eldarmi cheat eldrazi lists
Is Arena a small upgrade over Hanwier Battlements in Titan? Maybe if they start playing more red sideboard cards.
Nope bc it only works on cast. You need to be able to cast titan, fetch battlements and haste it
@@flav_jja oh yea that makes sense.
Ty for another great video. Given you ran scales for a while, what are your brief thoughts on scales going into MH3?
odd edit between sevinne and bolt
Please have some timeless deck building too
The rule for fringe expensive stuff, does it come close to scapeshift
What about Simic Dreamtide Scales?
I agree that ugin’s binding doesn’t belong in the eldrazi deck but it fits amazing in the affinity deck it doesn’t require a 7 mana eldrzi spell only a 7 mana colorless spell
playing a 3 mana instant in affinity seems like an awful rate. unless you discard it to cookbook or something, it seems unplayable there to
I would like to see it in dredge, if it ends up in your graveyard, evoke nulldrifter to draw and dredge, return their board, put all your creatures into play from graveyard.
I did it, I got lost in the sauce
