As an officer and later a sergeant, I couldn't really say anything, but since I am retired, here goes. Women should not be allowed to work as correctional officers in a male prison. Yes, I know there would still be female administrative personnel and medical people, but keep it to a minimum. There were numerous female officers involved with inmates during my years at a North Carolina Prison. I know I will receive plenty of criticism, but I'm used to that.
People are people. No matter what situation or role you’re in, you still have emotions, fear, vulnerability, attraction, lust etc. Working at a prison isn’t for everybody.
Just for the fact that there are innocent people that are locked up unfairly, would make it very difficult for me to work in the prison system and look at people who are confined against their will who could possibly be 100% innocent. I would find that just heart-wrenching and I would not want to be a part of their abuse. That's why people who are imprisoned unfairly and unjustly get compensated financially because that's all they can do for you they can't give you that time back with your family or your children. It is actually criminal to lock someone up and take away their Liberty. It's unfathomable to do that to a human being. For that reason alone I would never work in the prison system or any place where people could possibly be innocent. Compound that with loneliness and every other human emotion that drives people to seek connections and obviously this kind of thing would happen. I don't find this hard to believe considering it happened to me twice! Once a female CO would watch me come out of the shower, smiling and asking me did I need anything. I'm a naked guy standing there and only thing she was doing is smiling and looking at my man meat. The second time ( same CO) called me out of my cell and told me she needed help with a bucket and wringer in the supply closet. I went in to get it and she closed the door and was bending over in front of me, grinding on me. As much as I wanted to, I got out of there because if we got caught, she'd swear rape, and I would be done! After she saw she couldn't bait me, she left me alone and moved on to the next guy, but I'm glad I had the sense to not do it.
I was a female correction officer in a male prison for 10 years, I agree with the woman interviewed, if an officer begins a relationship with an inmate they are stupid and unethical. The judicial system needs to be fixed, it is demoralizing to those incarcerated as well as those that work there. We are under paid, under staffed, and placed in dangerous situations without regards to our safety. I would never advise anyone to work in a prison facility.

I know someone that had a relationship with an inmate, who eventually retired, and married this inmate. But since she married him after she retired, there was nothing the state could do to her. She still receives her full pension and every perk that came with being a corrections officer.
val3sha yeah but over 70% of women out of around 35% working as officers commit this crime. So basically 7 out of 10 will more than likely have an inappropriate relationship with an inmate. That number is scary! I’m wondering if that is a leading contribution to contraband in the prison. I won’t speculate on that too much but my goodness a lot of women fall in the prison system. I personally know a lady who left her job as a correctional wand married an inmate who was in for murder. They had 2 children through conjugal visits and the guy got out when his eldest was 15. The guy wasn’t out a year when he saw a kid broke down on side the road and offered him a ride. Instead of taking the young man to get help he drove him to him and his wife’s home, murdered, and buried him in the yard where the police later found the kid’s body swelling out the shallow grave. She risked her livelihood for some bs that she should’ve left alone! In the meantime she’s in a trailer with no working water die to pipe issues and going through hard times
It just happens because the dynamic is so different behind bars. The inmates are cut off from sex, intimacy and women in general. So they are willing to romance and compliment a female CO who normally wouldn't catch their eye, or who herself isn't used to getting attention. It basically ensues from there. I believe women are more emotional beings than men, and it can be easy to take advantage of those emotions. That all being said, putting your livelihood on the line for your "emotions" is very stupid.
Females and males engaged homosexual activity behind bars. Men that are straight on the street and are repeat offenders that repeatedly come back to prison actually participate in homsexual activity. These men have full on girlfriends, wives, children at home. Inmates will actually tell staff they have engaged in sexual nature with other inmates. But, their family will never know bc they have an image. It has actually become more frequent, and they've become more open about it bc mo one can tell their family/friends on the outside.They ain't lonely, just horny. In addition, males tend to also deal with female staff more often as well.

I was once a CO. I saw a lot of stuff go down in there. There were some women messing with the inmates. One even got pregnant by an inmate. When you spend so much rime working there it can wear on you. If you are lonely, stressed etc the inmates play on those things. They have enough time to figure you out. I left because I didn't want to see rhings happening in there anymore. We are all human but I always thought ahead. Plus I never had much respect for a man that went habitually to jail to start with. Part of the issue...A BIG part is because female COs rarely get prosecuted for sexual misconduct. Male COs on the other hand, almost always do. There is no accountability for female COs that get caught.

I'm no inmate, but I know many do it just for sake of distraction. Think about it, they're away from the free world for years, still have their natural sexual desires for the opposite sex, are surrounded by men plotting to stab, kill, or rape them, and basically have no real interaction with "normal" people. What inmates get out of letters from women they'll never see is knowing "they still got it," that someone in normal society can like them, and it gives them a piece of mind from all the madness they see on day to day. Rapes and stabbing happen weekly, sometimes daily depending on the prison. Who wouldn't want a distraction?
Years ago when there were no female Officers working in Male facilities it wasn't a problem. However, today it's rampant, and remember this video is only pointing out a few instances. In my home state I know of at least 30 and I live in a small state. Inmates usually use these women to do other things because once they've crossed that line and compromised themselves they are at the mercy of these inmates who usually hold over their heads "reporting the relationship to the Administration". So, these women get locked into bringing in drugs, weapons, carrying messages, and doing all kinds of things.

I have been in Corrections for 13 years... I have seen many women get fired for this.. Its sad.. It makes it hard for the ones that are actually doing their jobs to be able to work with the offenders... They are very weak and lack self esteem. In addition.. They are also very young which is another problem. Its very unsafe.
I have been in prison (till i was found innocent and released) and all the female staff in my wing had relationships with inmates. Woman overseeing the work hall didnt even try to hide it parading hand in hand with her inmate lover.
Body cams on each guard , which must have footage to account for every minute spent at the prison during any given shift , just like cops have to do would put a stop to this. If there is any missing time on random inspections of the camera ... it is automatic dismissal.
I was a Law Enforcement Chaplain for 26 years including some involvement with the jail. In the video, someone stated that there was “no easy solution” to this problem. That’s incorrect. Forget political correctness and have male corrections officers in the male facilities and female corrections officers in female facilities. I had to do 5 days in a County Jail for a misdemeanor about 6 years ago and my cellie, who was doing 3 years, told me she had sex with a male guard in exchange for Candy Bars and Cigarettes. I was so shocked. Ive been a perfect angel ever since, Im NEVER going back to jail. It was terrible.
I said it before and I'll say it again the Corrections Department needs to go back to the way things used to be even though the majority do a very good job I don't think that female correctional officers should be guarding male inmates I don't care who protest that is something that seriously needs to be done. When it comes to guarding men, supervising men for them to go take their showers and handle them disciplinarily female guards should not be put in that situation. And male guards should not be guarding females, not in a Cell Block setting. This type of thing will continue to happen there needs to be some new ground rules, may- be set at the state level. Women should not be guarding men, and men should not be guarding women not in the Cell Block. Hopefully your state officials will stop wasting their time and worrying about a bunch of small things. Your state senator or Congressman ,need to get up off their asses. I once dated my CO when I did time. The way she carried herself gave off all kinds of vibes that she didn't feel appreciated at all. So our fuck sessions and conversations were a temporary escape for us both. We even kept in touch after I was released despite the fact that she was in an abusive marriage. Not to mention that after I was released my cell mate who knew all the details of our relationship started blackmailing her up to the point where she just resigned.

I worked for a teen medium security prison. It was a 17 year old boy who had the body of a grown man. This man was writing love notes, trying to say sweet things, etc. Everyone knew how he felt and were watching me. I left the job and he was like I'm kissing here before she leave. Nope 🙅🏽♀️. My name not getting on that list. You will never get a job.

Inmates and former inmates do not tell, rat, or snitch on current or former issues and incidents. I guarantee that if this man ever goes back into custody there will be a price on his head. I'M A GUARD AT A WOMEN'S PRISON FACILITY. I MARRIED A FORMER INMATE. I've been a guard employed by the Colorado Department of Corrections at a women's prison sincec2012. In 2013, a woman sentenced to 33 months for check forgery arrived. She was once a loan officer at a mortgage company. It's not uncommon for officers and inmates to build a rapport with each other. The more respect they have, the smoother things will run, and a much smaller likelihood of riots or other disturbances happening. So, She and I developed a rapport which evolved into a ftiendship, and into an intimate relationship. In 2017, She was parolled. She looked me up and we started dating. In December of 2018, we married.

What is scary is that these officers don’t realize that they are putting themselves in so much danger having sex with inmates. Hepatitis, Syphilis, HIV and every other infection has higher rates among inmates and to add most inmates are mentally ill and can manipulate and harm you because they are a means to an end
The strange part in all this is, that human nature is considered a failure. But the failure might be more like the way we see human nature as well as what in the outcome might be a failure. When a corrections officer and an inmate fall in love with one another the failure actually appears when this results in escape, not in the falling in love itself. But to differentiate something like this especially in the USA might already be to difficult to manage. --- I have seen in documentaries that even inmate to inmate relations are considered illegal and result in separation of inmates in the USA. But when one tries to consider what it teaches a person that social relations even amoungst inmates are considered and treated as illegal, what will that person have learned and take away after release into normal life then in the outcome? The obvious is, the way of thinking about humans and human nature in terms of social and sexual relations in prison is designed to promote sociopathic behaviour of inmates in the long run and likely reflects back into society after release. How can social behaviour be illegal and sociopathic behaviour be supported and promoted instead? Find where the error in this concept is... Everything comes with a price tag, but it seems no one is willing to take the responsibility when it comes to paying the bill at the end of the day!

The judicial system needs to be fixed, it is demoralizing to those incarcerated as well as those that work there. We are under paid, under staffed, and placed in dangerous situations without regards to our safety. I would never advise anyone to work in a prison facility.

That number is scary! I’m wondering if that is a leading contribution to contraband in the prison. I won’t speculate on that too much but my goodness a lot of women fall in the prison system. I personally know a lady who left her job as a correctional wand married an inmate who was in for murder. They had 2 children through conjugal visits and the guy got out when his eldest was 15. The guy wasn’t out a year when he saw a kid broke down on side the road and offered him a ride. Instead of taking the young man to get help he drove him to him and his wife’s home, murdered, and buried him in the yard where the police later found the kid’s body swelling out the shallow grave. She risked her livelihood for some bs that she should’ve left alone! In the meantime she’s in a trailer with no working water die to pipe issues and going through hard times
It just happens because the dynamic is so different behind bars. The inmates are cut off from sex, intimacy and women in general. So they are willing to romance and compliment a female CO who normally wouldn't catch their eye, or who herself isn't used to getting attention. It basically ensues from there. I believe women are more emotional beings than men, and it can be easy to take advantage of those emotions. That all being said, putting your livelihood on the line for your "emotions" is very stupid.

These men have full on girlfriends, wives, children at home. Inmates will actually tell staff they have engaged in sexual nature with other inmates. But, their family will never know bc they have an image. It has actually become more frequent, and they've become more open about it bc mo one can tell their family/friends on the outside.They ain't lonely, just horny. In addition, males tend to also deal with female staff more often as well.

I was once a CO. I saw a lot of stuff go down in there. There were some women messing with the inmates. One even got pregnant by an inmate. When you spend so much rime working there it can wear on you. If you are lonely, stressed etc the inmates play on those things. They have enough time to figure you out. I'm no inmate, but I know many do it just for sake of distraction. Think about it, they're away from the free world for years, still have their natural sexual desires for the opposite sex, are surrounded by men plotting to stab, kill, or rape them, and basically have no real interaction with "normal" people. What inmates get out of letters from women they'll never see is knowing "they still got it," that someone in normal society can like them, and it gives them a piece of mind from all the madness they see on day to day. Rapes and stabbing happen weekly, sometimes daily depending on the prison. Who wouldn't want a distraction?

Years ago when there were no female Officers working in Male facilities it wasn't a problem. However, today it's rampant, and remember this video is only pointing out a few instances. In my home state I know of at least 30 and I live in a small state. Inmates usually use these women to do other things because once they've crossed that line and compromised themselves they are at the mercy of these inmates who usually hold over their heads "reporting the relationship to the Administration". So, these women get locked into bringing in drugs, weapons, carrying messages, and doing all kinds of things.

I have been in Corrections for 13 years... I have seen many women get fired for this.. Its sad.. It makes it hard for the ones that are actually doing their jobs to be able to work with the offenders... They are very weak and lack self esteem. In addition.. They are also very young which is another problem. Its very unsafe.

At some point, there has to be trust. Cameras can be put off. I think they have a "look the other way" culture in most prisons
Body cams on each guard , which must have footage to account for every minute spent at the prison during any given shift , just like cops have to do would put a stop to this. If there is any missing time on random inspections of the camera ... it is automatic dismissal.
I was a Law Enforcement Chaplain for 26 years including some involvement with the jail. In the video, someone stated that there was “no easy solution” to this problem. That’s incorrect. Forget political correctness and have male corrections officers in the male facilities and female corrections officers in female facilities. Pretty simple, really, if any political entity has the guts to do it.🤔

I said it before and I'll say it again the Corrections Department needs to go back to the way things used to be even though the majority do a very good job I don't think that female correctional officers should be guarding male inmates I don't care who protest that is something that seriously needs to be done. When it comes to guarding men, supervising men for them to go take their showers and handle them disciplinarily female guards should not be put in that situation. And male guards should not be guarding females, not in a Cell Block setting. This type of thing will continue to happen there needs to be some new ground rules, may- be set at the state level. Women should not be guarding men, and men should not be guarding women not in the Cell Block. Hopefully your state officials will stop wasting their time and worrying about a bunch of small things. Your state senator or Congressman ,need to get up off their asses. Because if they don't address this issue it will get worse and worse aren't we tired in this country of being the butt of everyone's jokes

I once dated my CO when I did time. The way she carried herself gave off all kinds of vibes that she didn't feel appreciated at all. So our fuck sessions and conversations were a temporary escape for us both. We even kept in touch after I was released despite the fact that she was in an abusive marriage. I worked for a teen medium security prison. It was a 17 year old boy who had the body of a grown man. So for someone that has been in law enforcement and corrections for over 12 and 1/2 years, the gentleman in this interview has broken a code that is an absolute no-no. Inmates and former inmates do not tell, rat, or snitch on current or former issues and incidents. I guarantee that if this man ever goes back into custody there will be a price on his head. All this behavior is dead wrong and staff should NEVER 'hook-up' with inmates, but I am very surprised that the former inmate conducted an interview openly discussing the subversive activities.

I've been a guard employed by the Colorado Department of Corrections at a women's prison sincec2012.
In 2013, a woman sentenced to 33 months for check forgery arrived. She was once a loan officer at a mortgage company.
It's not uncommon for officers and inmates to build a rapport with each other. The more respect they have, the smoother things will run, and a much smaller likelihood of riots or other disturbances happening.
So, She and I developed a rapport which evolved into a ftiendship, and into an intimate relationship.
In 2017, She was parolled. She looked me up and we started dating.
In December of 2018, we married.

What is scary is that these officers don’t realize that they are putting themselves in so much danger having sex with inmates. Hepatitis, Syphilis, HIV and every other infection has higher rates among inmates and to add most inmates are mentally ill and can manipulate and harm you because they are a means to an end
The strange part in all this is, that human nature is considered a failure. But the failure might be more like the way we see human nature as well as what in the outcome might be a failure.
When a corrections officer and an inmate fall in love with one another the failure actually appears when this results in escape, not in the falling in love itself. But to differentiate something like this especially in the USA might already be to difficult to manage. --- I have seen in documentaries that even inmate to inmate relations are considered illegal and result in separation of inmates in the USA. But when one tries to consider what it teaches a person that social relations even amoungst inmates are considered and treated as illegal, what will that person have learned and take away after release into normal life then in the outcome?
The obvious is, the way of thinking about humans and human nature in terms of social and sexual relations in prison is designed to promote sociopathic behaviour of inmates in the long run and likely reflects back into society after release.
How can social behaviour be illegal and sociopathic behaviour be supported and promoted instead? Find where the error in this concept is...
