Well done to the builder - it certainly is a car that will cause a fuss.
Car building at this level may be the only area left where true creativity, craftsmanship, and hand-crafted art still come together to produce the best that humans are capable of. Cars at this level belong on a pedestal in a museum more than on a pot-holed street. This car is one example of the best of what we can produce. I might not be able to build something of this quality but I can certainly be in awe of it and appreciate it. Fabulous car, and very impressive, yet I can't help but feel that the very clean original car was unnecessary to start from, could have preserved that and started with something in far worse shape since so much is completely changed anyway - all panels, frame, engine etc.
Best way to start a project is wtih a good one to start with. THeres plenty of stock ones out there being "preserved" ie rotting in someones garage. Part of preserving is driving them so they dont rot apart. mines sat for 3 and will take a ton of work to make safe again...even though everything has less than 100 mi on it.
I agree this car could have just as easily been built with a beat-up survivor considering only 10% of it is even stock. If I was doing it with this budget, I would have sacrificed a beater. And kept a high condition car to be used for reference. Oh well each to there own.
nothing is original except the shifter... so all those parts can be put together to make the original car what do you think happened to those parts? destroyed?
I have to agree with asking why. If every body panel is handmade and also the frame, where is the beautiful 69 RR they started with? I love the way it looks and very much appreciate the artwork/showcar that it it is now, but I have to ask.
The only thing they forgot was installing Lockheed's antigravity propulsion system. Therefore,... on a scale of 1 to 10, it's an 8.2. Other than that, this Road Runn...err... Star Runner is ready to voyage among the galaxies!
