  • In this video we use Darktable to convert a telephoto landscape shot into punchy black and white. To celebrate 500 subscribers, there's also a bonus squirrel-specific workflow in the second half!

I appreciate you zooming in to the right hand panel to clearly show the invert drawn mask button. The rather small detail in the side panels is often hard to see on a you tube video. Very pleasing mono edit. The image has a very nice 3D feel. I did wonder why you use the display referred monochrome module rather than (for example) the grey tab of the colour calibration module. When selecting the colour of the squirrel for the colour equalizer, holding the Ctrl key lets you select a range of colour (if you want 😀).
Another very polished presentation. Thank you.

Appreciate zooming in when selecting icons and all the explanations. Nice B&W work.

6:03 Ctrl + Scroll will further lower the density of the mask all the way down to 5 percent (if needed), so 3 useful parameters for a vignette. Is your top bar hidden? Otherwise these combinations would be in a tool tip there, as you know, but they are not obvious from your video.
I doubt the Birch was that red. You made it red in the Color calibration module. You can have two instances of Color calibration - e.g. one for the trunk and one for the rest (with the same drawn mask directly and inverted, respectively, i.e. coolness and warmth in the same image.

I got a little lost in contrast equalizer and the C key? Is that a preset? I wasn't able to see the different contrasts.

You A) need to have the parametric mask controls open and B) have your mouse pointer over them. If you press C when your mouse is over the module controls themselves nothing will happen.
