Excellent video. My favorite thing about his warmup is how unselfconsious it is. He's striving for an optimum sound and feel instead of technical perfection at this stage, and that means the occasional clam or out of tune note. And he's totally fine with that. He registers whatever happens and slowly corrects and fine tunes it but doesn't worry about it. It's all part of reconnecting his musical brain and body to the instrument each day. And l think it is refreshing for a world-class player like him to be willing to put this out there and show us all his process.
Came from Flugelhorn/ tuba over 5 years ago to start trombone and picked slide over valve, after 2 weeks and this is defo a practice/ warmup exercise I'm gonna pick up! Thank you!
I try not to focus too much on a big sound, just trying to resonate as much as possible - same as when singing. I currently play on a willie's custom brass mouthpiece from Japan.
For tone play two joined whole notes, beginning and ending pianissimo but fortissimo in the middle. Skip the mouthpiece buzzing. Keep it your pocket to warm it. Thank you for not squeaking .

After almost a 35 yr career, first as a full time trombonist (10) and then as a "weekendwarrior" has to stop playing due to all the bad habits collided in a "perfect storm" leaving me with 4 instruments which I can barely hold (incorrect position, bad shoulder), bad breathing habits, etc. Almost like 3 years that I cant play, after seeing this video, seems to find I just found what I has been looking! Lets wait, patiently repeat the exercises, will tell you in a while!
Seems like you probably have a nice slow resting heart rate because it looks like your breathing warm-up was 50bpm, no biggie but I had a hunch when that started, (assuming all the digital playback is accurate that is, 😌

Питер вы большой молодец и трудяга. Желаю вам достигнуть больших высот в этом не простом деле игре на тромбоне! Благодарю вас за видео 😊
Thank you, Cheers Robert
Thank you for the tip.Ill blow my trombone like never before! You saved my life
Excellent
Would you mind sharing mic/signal path info? Thanks to all for making this happen. Peter is a once in a generation voice on the horn!
Got to meet him with Adam Frey, really great dude
thank you, valuable information!
He has a very dark sound sounds great
Even your mouthpiece-only tone is super full and warm, any tips there? What mouthpiece is that? Thanks!
Probably more air through the mouthpiece. Try just blowing directly through the mouthpiece then transition to a buzz and keep the air going

Please did you use the auxiliary when playing the scale???

Ya know, real trombonists use the horns that are available and make them great. Signature models are a crutch
Oh, Please! Really?
crazy how you have to get good at an instrument to get a signature model
