I also live on a Florida waterway. As already said in a previous comment, he didn't come close to installing it properly. The tape is to be caulked on both edges then covered with the liquid seal. I tried my own experiment on a slider and it worked great but try your own experiment. Do the research. They have very specific videos for each type of door. window and garage. Also no door or window should have that big a gap and should be replaced.
Looks like it leaked through your wood. Not through the actual tape. Maybe if you seal the door 100% with a wood sealer during construction that might actually work?

You didn’t follow instructions dude. You caulk and seal with flood paste before you tape SMH. 🤦🏻♂️
