You definitely win the cream filled donut with sprinkles for being the first to review that I found Nigel. Pop open a beer have a donut and bask in the glow of being first. Absolutely beautiful molding. I do believe there will be one of these in my future. Maybe Red Fox will do a cockpit kit for this one.
Nice to see one gets plenty of building time with all the small details to be added. A very nicely built M113 personal carrier slung under for a load would be fun!
Great thing about large scale kits is having all that gorgeous detail to show off. Those bazillion raised rivets will certainly add some dimension to the build. Thanks for your efforts in getting the kit so quickly.
Hi Nigel, Thanks for the great review of this amazing kit. There are so many possibilities with this kit. I appreciate your kind words. I'll be looking forward to seeing part 1.
I love the timing of your video, it's a perfect way to spend part of my birthday tonight! I've loved the Skycrane since I was ten years old and watched the S-64 used to assist in building the CN Tower in Toronto. An updated release of the CH-54 has been sorely long-overdue and eagerly-anticipated by countless modellers so this is highly welcome. I do hope as you've eluded to that ICM ends up releasing a 1/48 kit, as like many others I'm not sure about finding room for this. Still I'll most likely pick it up anyway and concern myself with that later! Wonderful review Nigel, very thorough and I enjoyed every minute of it. I've heard criticism of ICM's plastic in some reviews but have found it wonderfully easy to work with and no more susceptible to scratching over over-sanding than any other manufacturer's styrene. I fell in love with ICM as I put together their wonderful O-2A Skymaster. Fantastic detail and fit with some of the best clear parts in the business, as your review confirms. Enough waffling from me, thanks again for your review! And keep up the fantastic work! PS: love your choice of outro music during the photos!
I built the old kit many years ago. It had the medical connex that could be put underneath the helicopter. It was great then but this looks awesome. That will be in my stash soon enough. Thanks for the review, the First one to boot.
I've just completed a M551 Sheridan, and the two would make an interesting Vietnam dio. But it would be enormous! I look forward to seeing you put this together. Have fun!
Great video my friend and what a fantastic review the detail is incredible when painted the rivets will really pop out shame about the damage but that aside it’s still a stunning kit and with those clear parts definitely agree you can go to town on the interior really looking forward to seeing you build it thanks again for sharing 👍👍
I still can't hardy believe it's real. A mass produced kit no less. Well relatively, I'll be fortunate to get one for sure. Looking forward to this build series Cheers
A note on the rotor blades indicators. Sikorsky used them quite a bit. US Army H-60's with legacy narrow chord blades have those. I can't speak for the Tarhee but on a 60, they appear as yellow and white stripes when the spar pressure is acceptable. When the pressure drops below range the yellow switches to red. Wide chord blades still have a nitrogen filled spar but engineers eliminated the indicator.
Been waiting for this Nigel ….the Hassle you’ve had getting it 👍all said & done glad we are still getting kits from Ukraine, looking forward to see you work your magic on it mate 👌
ICM Paints are Acrylic. They are 12ml flip-top pots, pretty cheap, brushable, but a bit thinner than Vallejo Model Colour Range. I have a couple of sets, but have yet to use them. Rotor leak indicators are generally a glass dome with a little white striped pot inside with a piston with black & White stripes. When the piston moves because of a leak, the white stripes no longer align and the black stripes become visible, making it easily visible from the ground. These were also used on the Westland Wessex, (another Sikorsky of course), and were known as BIM (Blade Inspection Method) Indicators.
Hi Nigel; nice review .I don't know if you've seen it but there is a animated full build video from ICM up on youtube lasts about 10mins and interesting.I think it's been there for about three days now; best of luck with the build might have to take the door of to get it out of your model room though 😃
Congrats on getting this out so quick. Been waiting for this since ICM annouunced it last year. After watching the ICM CAD build video this is going to be a monster kit and will follow your build with eager anticipation. I'm waiting for the daisycutter version but also want to see if anyone comes out with the fire fighting conversion. That cockpit is crying out for either a full resin kit or a Red Fox kit
That's a gorgeous looking kit! 👍 Great video; thanks for bringing this stunning piece of model engineering to us/everyone interested! If I could fit something like this into my small flat I'd be all over it like a rash; however, sadly..... 😔 I look forward to your build series of 485 parts.....!! 😂 Seriously though, it'll be great! 👍
Nice review Nigel. This one is on my order list for sure. Such an epic Vietnam era Helicopter. Wonder how much big size models will follow as it seems that this is the thing to do nowadays with kit producers.
Main rotor blades Bim indicator which you mention about cracking of leading edge. A good blade the indicator is white, failed or cracked blade the indicator turns black.
This is great Nigel. Thank you for the review. I can't wait for mine to get here. I was looking how things are packed and I wonder if they could insert a short piece of something in the middle of the pile of sprues where that round section is. Minimize things from sliding around? I wonder if they plan on a B version with the double main gears, ECT
What an amazing kit! It is astonishing they are managing to do this sort of thing in the current crisis! Some simple thin tissue like paper would help between the parts I feel.
I know.. I the other week that teachers took the kids underground during a strike, so they could continue their lessons... while our teachers were on strike!!
I love this kit especially the scale of it! Do you know if anyone is planning on doing a version or upgrade of this for the Erickson Fire Fighting model? Thanks!
looks great, just wish it was 1/72nd. i wonder if it might need a bit of weight in the front to stop it being tail heavy with the big rotor or if it will sit level.
Dasha models uses ICM paint a lot. I found the bottle a little awkward and the paint a touch chalky. It sprayed well without the little bits of contaminant in others.

So nice to be first Allen.. it's not a competition I know, but it's cool to be at the front!!
Imagine if Nigel is the first to build it on line and finish it. Maybe this should be a Saturday group built.😂
I'm glad you finally got it. One nice thing about this kit. It sure won't be difficult to find space to display this little guy. 🤠
Glad you got it in harmed and opening it up for us to see.
Been waiting for this, thanks for getting this review out Nigel as always mate 10/10
Glad you enjoyed it
If all else fails you could motorise it and use it as a ceiling fan!!. Enjoy your build Nigel. All the best. 😉
LMAO Bren!!
Appreciated the sharp closeup photos 46:48 Thanks for another good review.
My pleasure Ron.. not a patch on your photography though...
Nice to see one gets plenty of building time with all the small details to be added. A very nicely built M113 personal carrier slung under for a load would be fun!
Hey Nigel so glad this arrived for you, lets hope the ICM kit wont be long coming - yes Doug has a great channel 😂🎉
Fingers crossed!
Good on ya Nigel. And just when I thought I didn't need any more kits!
Looking forward to seeing you build this one Nigel, It looks really interesting
Thanks for the review. I remember as a young teen going with my grandfather to watch a sky crane put the top pieces on Toronto’s CN tower.
I've been up the CN tower, so there's a link... perhaps??
Thanks for the helpful review. I'm glad ICM chose 1/35. It's a great-looking machine, brute force, ingeniously designed.
You bet

Couldn't agree more!
Our sister unit had the last US Army operational Sky Cranes. They were transitioned to Chinooks in ‘92-‘93.
Hi Nigel, Thanks for the great review of this amazing kit. There are so many possibilities with this kit. I appreciate your kind words. I'll be looking forward to seeing part 1.

Excellent review and I'm front row center to follow your progress.

Beautiful kit Nigel, can’t wait to get my hands on one of them.
Great review. What a fantastic looking kit
Nigel+ this is a beautiful kit I like to get my hands on one of these kits thanks for the kit review 👍
I remember as a kid watching one of these setting towers for power lines....an amazing machine
I made popcorn! Excellent box review looks an amazing kit thanks Nigel.
Hope you enjoy it!
I've just completed a M551 Sheridan, and the two would make an interesting Vietnam dio. But it would be enormous!
I look forward to seeing you put this together. Have fun!
I can just see Reskit bringing out resin engines and gearboxes for this kit - its absolutely beautiful.
Couldn't agree more!
Mine arrived today Nigel...Amazing kit.
Looking forward to building it in my retirement in Spain. Nice big stash now to take with me.
Enjoy Dave!! She's a beauty.
As always Nigel, another superb, detailed and highly informative review. It's a pleasure to watch. ✌
Glad you enjoyed it

Sure thing Richie.. we are the lucky ones. may it continue!!
Hoorah, finally it's arrived 🙌 😍
It looks great Nige. I can see some huge jungle dioramas popping up over the next year
I hope so
Thanks for the inbox review, looking forward to this one, great video👍
Thanks for watching Greg. No doubt you'll be getting one?
@@NigelsModellingBench Some day!! The list of kits to build is mounting up. I'm wondering whether I'll live long enough to build them all😂😎
great review Nigel I'm going to wait a while I won't do aftermarket to come out
Cracking looking massive kit. Should make for some great build videos Nigel.
She's a beauty Andy.

the fire fighting one would be good and the container they used for a medical use
Yeooooo it's arrived good deal with the 4 sprues this is going to be a fantastic centre piece and a challenging build the front screen is perfect 👍
Bloody awesome kit. I hope they release a version with the medical pod for the centre section, my favourite.
Hi Nige, can't wait to see you build this, coz I will probs need some guidance on this monster. 😁
Already started.. it's lovely!!
Just checked out ICM's own YT video 'build' on this, and their colours are indeed acrylic, as you suspected, Nigel.
That's a gorgeous looking kit! 👍

The fun begins!!

1/35 scale. Man, how many diorama ideas will be fullfilled. Realy want one, but my skill level is not there yet.
Main rotor blades Bim indicator which you mention about cracking of leading edge. A good blade the indicator is white, failed or cracked blade the indicator turns black.
Great show case on this kit
Lovely. What about the other two you have coming?
One sold, one will be my number two.

The most eagerly awaited video since plastic monkeys how to stick things on back to front upside down video 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
And I think I was still first?
It’s a beautiful kit

I got the old revell kit in 1/72. Very nice heli :)
Very nice!

Not that I know of
@@NigelsModellingBench OK, thank you so much for getting back to me and so quickly. Enjoying the build videos you produce.

Good point Richard.. hadn't thought of that..
Nice video as expected Nigel. Should be a interesting build.

Nice choice of subject and looks well researched - so refreshing to get away from the Spitfire/Mustang/Tiger bread and butter stuff
Couldn't agree more!
Saw this built up on Jadlams site very very nice .
Thanks for coming and commenting Steve.
Insane thinking about making room for that rotor span. I don't know what to do with my 1/32 scale B-25 once I build it.
I was gonna get one but I want to stick to 1/48 aircraft, oh and $300 bucks for the kit is insane.
Love it
Fantastychno dobre zrobleno ICM
YES!!!!
very cool!
very nice
Very Nice
Thanks
AWESOME
Thanks 🤗
👍
Looks to be an awesome looking kit!!!! 👍😀😀🤩 looks expensive 🤔🤔
It is!
If you worry about the cost then you do not need it. For the rest of us we'll just buy it
Just so you know, the CH-47 Chinook is a Native American word and is pronounced "Shin-ook".
Just seen this by ICM, nice touch. th-cam.com/video/IEn_PB14hDA/w-d-xo.html
