Something that gets forgotten is that Boimler is actually pretty tough. Compared to the likes of Mariner who's unreasonably good in a fight he comes up short, but when he's in a brawl he's able to last a while, which is sometimes all you need in a critical situation. Like when he was in the mine trying to survive Packlets during his time on the Titan, he survived long enough to evac his team and himself. Also when he was being hunted a few episodes back. Sure he got caught, but he was able to evade in limited space for a long time before he made the mistake that got him speared.
Boimler was REALLY toughened by his time aboard the Titan. It made him stronger and more confident to have served under Riker. Mariner is unreasonably good in a fight because she LOVES fighting. She works out by simulating a CARDASSIAN PRISON BREAK, her weapon of choice is a god damn Bat'leth, and she very likely served during the Dominion War. Boimler really spoke the truth here. Starfleet is the reason why so many alien races were discovered and are co-existing with other alien races. And they have saved the Galaxy from threats like the Borg, Dominion, and evil space entities.
In the TOS alone, you see how many times the Enterprise had to take part in extremely important political missions, and saving the day to an universal scale from mysterious threats. None would know about it since the logs made by the crew are probably never published by starfleet, but yeah, none of them would exist without it.

I think there's a hint at the end of that episode that suspect that Mariner will be thinking about joining the theif that she just met today if Ransom did kick her out of Starfleet in Season 3 finale.

boimler: ends in the brig from rage outburst also boiler: gets people into starfleet thus acomplishing the objective gets respect from everyone, namely brige staff took a piss at many losers got one more over mariner
I don't blame Boimler for losing it. He's always wanted to be a starship captain, and this civilian comes by and "demotes" him while laughing. I wouldn't be surprised if bullies from his hometown of Modesto did stuff like this to him because his family made raisins.
I love how this is a recurring theme with Lower Decks cast. Even Ryker and his hit squad bring it up. They all just wanna run around and scan shiny things and map quasars. Sure blowing up badguys is fun but a lot of starfleet is legitimately unhappy with all the fighting they have to do. All the traps and snares and betrayals and romulan nonsense. "We just want to scan quasars" Mar says it, Tindy says it, Boimler, Ryker, The Captain says it. Its oddly... Wholesome, that a lot of star fleet would be super happy being left alone to scan rocks and poke artifacts.
To explain why Boimler was enraged: Forcibly ripping out rank insignia is one of the gravest acts that can be done against military personnel. The *only* time it is a legitimate action is when the soldier is being dishonorably dismissed. By pulling out his pips, the Female Outpost Scientist effectively called Boimler equivalent to a murderer, rapist, coward or traitor.
@@ChevaliersEmeraude It is and always has been a military, even if one or two officers like to tell themselves that they're not. The "not a military" thing was something from very early TNG that was quickly abandoned.
Boimler going ballistic was deeply cathartic. Also, considering the degree of actual fear and respect he managed to cultivate in just a few seconds, he's definitely meant for a captain's chair.
I have a little headcanon theory for Starfleet's military/non-military role: that Starfleet does set itself out as a non-military scientific agency, but all the cool quasars and nebulas and stuff always end up right next to hostile alien empires. So of course all the exploration ships need big guns on them to keep the scientists safe. And of course the Federation doesn't have a *military*, because they're against that kind of thing. But then when the Klingons or whatever attack you need to make do with what you got and, wouldn't ya know it, all the ships with big guns belong to the scientists and explorers. So you just end up with centuries of flat refusal to actually establish a proper, dedicated military for purely utopian reasons, and it never backfires because the Federation has armed all the nerds to the teeth already. All because you can't just go out and scan a comet or do zero-G botany experiments without needing enough firepower to blow up a small moon.
Pretty Much. Starfleet are frustrated Astronauts forced into a military role because everyone and theirbgrand ma wants a piece of Humanity after they successfully became a Space Faring Species right after they crawled out of a century of ruble caused by the Nuclear Wars that brought them to the edge of extinction. Humanity pulled in a century what too other species a millenia to achieve, it's why even the Klingons begrudgingly respect Starfleet.

when we saw riker, titan crew other starfleet officers they're still wearing the DS9 uniforms lead me to believe that different parts of starfleet wear different uniforms kind of like in ww2 where european theater soldiers definitely don't wear he same uniforms as their pacific theater counterparts.
My interpretation is that there's general uniform guidelines for ranks and colours. But the specifics of the uniform is up to the discretion of each ship's captain to make each each other identifiable in a Starfleet setting.
@@utubrGaming Yeah that seem to be the thing. Uniforms can be updated per Ships affections discretions.
In the end it's probably up to the captain to have the uniform be "updated", altought they would -at least I would- place the change up for a vote for the different options.
@@utubrGaming More likely, Starfleet Command has been routinely updating uniforms as the recent conflicts revealed weaknesses in the designs. After all, with matter replicators as standard, it's not a massive imposition to issue new uniforms, especially to ships on shorter assignments.
The LD uniform looks bad in live action.

Mariner LOVES to fight, so obviously she's had a LOT of training.
He's a trained officer in basically space coast guard. What do you expect?
Mariner is not "unreasonably good" in a fight. she just better than what you like. It makes sense she can fight because she been around nothing but fighters

The man speaks the truth. Despite what the reputation Starfleet has, its not exactly easy. Not to mention they save literally all the idiots bashing them here every other goddamned day because they touched something they shouldn't have.

In the TOS alone, you see how many times the Enterprise had to take part in extremely important political missions, and saving the day to an universal scale from mysterious threats.
None would know about it since the logs made by the crew are probably never published by starfleet, but yeah, none of them would exist without it.
This was the best part of one of the better episodes. Biomler needs to let his inner demon out more often.
Nah. You gotta parse something like this out carefully. This is a gem to be polished slowly, rather than just passing it out.
Wow for once Biomler is in big trouble but despite that Mariner was able to sign up more people to join Starfleet which made Commander Ransom very happy. I think there's a hint at the end of that episode that suspect that Mariner will be thinking about joining the theif that she just met today if Ransom did kick her out of Starfleet in Season 3 finale.
In reality Bloimer basically get just a slap on the wrist with Ransom honestly proud of what he had done as probably the heckling happen every time and Starfleet need/must always act as the adult in the room and just take it from people that in the end are ungratefull karens as they were saved many many many times by them

"We just want to scan quasars"
Mar says it, Tindy says it, Boimler, Ryker, The Captain says it.
Its oddly... Wholesome, that a lot of star fleet would be super happy being left alone to scan rocks and poke artifacts.

"WE don't wanna protect you from Klingons and the Borg! We just wanna explore and study f***ing quasars!" Quaid's delivery is just brilliant!
Legendary
To explain why Boimler was enraged:
Forcibly ripping out rank insignia is one of the gravest acts that can be done against military personnel.
The *only* time it is a legitimate action is when the soldier is being dishonorably dismissed. By pulling out his pips, the Female Outpost Scientist effectively called Boimler equivalent to a murderer, rapist, coward or traitor.
Well, ok, except Starfleet isn't military!
@@ChevaliersEmeraude It is and always has been a military, even if one or two officers like to tell themselves that they're not.
The "not a military" thing was something from very early TNG that was quickly abandoned.
It always makes for a good show when the nice one snaps.
Boimler rules for standing up to those narks!!!
"Cuz knowledge is power and f**k whoever says otherwise, we are the most knowledgeable here."
You go f'n tell 'em, Boims!
Boimler’s inner beast is glorious to behold. Wow
Without Starfleet, Xindi would have destroyed the earth along with idea of a federation and Half the galaxy would be under Romulan control.
