I never knew of Journey band until I went to a restaurant and asked what was the title of the song, on the radio. It turned it was Turn Down the World Tonight. They didn't know the title, I was told it is sang by Arnel Pineda. I looked for the name and ... dear god, now I listened to the sound each night. The history of the band is just as amazing as the front vocalist.
Would you pay to see Arnel ? Crank up a good stereo sound system , Arnel mimics the sound of Steves voice . In other words plenty of high end , no mid range . Texture isn't even close

Steve Perry all the way! I get goosebumps every time I hear his voice. And his out of this world vocals (especially at the end of Mother, Father) are unmatched. Arnel is a great singer and it's cool that he's been able to fill in. But Journey without Steve Perry just isn't the same to me.
Of course, Steve has no equal. Even a great copy of a masterpiece is still just a copy. However, Arnel deserves some real respect. He revived the old Journey sound and is bringing it to a new generation. It's great the way Arnel honors Mr. Perry and carries so much respect for his long-time hero. Arnel' story is touching as well. He went from homelessness to now having his own foundation that... you guessed it... he feeds homeless kids in his home country. As far as talent goes, Arnel can sound like anybody, it's amazing! You should hear his cover of Alone by the band Heart, or Survivor, Brian Adams, Guns and Roses, even Chicago. I don't think any of those greats in their day could sound like one another at will. That's skill and range. Arnel's respect for the original sound and keeping the soul of the music of that generation should make Steve and all the other bands he has covered very proud.

I see no contest. No one beats Steve Perry in my opinion. I have seen dozens and dozens of top rock concerts. I’ve never seen anyone with his pitch and range. Absolutely nails it perfect.

They can all hit all the notes they want......Steve Perry wrote those notes. They are all coloring in a book that Steve Perry drew the lines in. It’s not about the high notes, it’s the creativity, the imagination, the musicianship and the soul that wrote those vocal parts in the first place.
AND… it’s the AIR. Steve had the lung capacity if you will, to carry the highest notes as long as he wanted. It’s obvious how the other dudes had / have to technically pace themselves for the sustains. Only Carlos Santana has longer sustains.
And now Neal Schon is in a heated legal battle over the copyrights of the Journey power ballad hits with Jon Cain. Schon has gone off the rails, "CONTROL FREAK" mode! Now, he and Michaela are managing the band, have bodyguards for the dressing room , stage, etc. They paid someone to go through Jon Cain's dressing room. Now, he's had to hire bodyguards, too! Journey, unfortunately, will be history if Neal doesn't get a reality check....now! Perry had a payout deal with the band, as he co-wrote those songs with Schon and Cain, except for two in this battle.
These comments are not necessary. No one is in competition with Perry. Remember your Perry lost his voice a long time ago. The band needed someone to take the place of frontman. Don't take it against the 2nd 3rd or 4th Journey frontman. Arnel Pineda is the most successful Journey frontman after Perry. Arnel has his share of charismatic appeal that helps why the Journey band is still rocking up to now. And he is very humble and yet very talented.
I like the new guy but it's Steve. My Mom died 2 years ago she loved Steve and Journey. I took her to a concert in the 80s. She did not know me in her last days because of dementia but I played Journey. She calmed down and said that guy really sings good. It was amazing she remembered Steve Perry in her mind but not me. I will always be grateful to him for that.

Steve Perry created the bar. Arnel got to experience it, but Deen Castroanova, who is not in any of the vids here that I saw, is flawless in his Perry vocals. Watching him play drums and sing is a thing of beauty, and his vocals are effortless.
I'm a Huge Steve Perry fan but come on folks give Arnel what he deserves. He's fantastic brings Steve back But Adds Himself in the mix. I love them both. Both original. Both unbelievable talents that deserve thier own accolades 👏 🙌 👌

I saw Steve & Journey perform live way back when and couldn't believe it. Steve's voice live was ... well ... Unbelivable! The only one who has ever lived up to that sound is Arnal. You close your eyes and you swear it is Steve singing again. Arnal is so talented!

In my opinion there is only ONE lead singer of Journey and that's Steve. I was fortunate enough to be a teenager and saw so many of their amazing concerts live. "Day on the Green" is just one of those memories. For those who lived the Journey experience back then, it's really hard to give that loyalty up. Journey will always be one of my favorite bands of all time. So sad that the band hurt Steve so deeply that he will never come back. Makes my heart ache to never see this band play together again. But thank you for the incredible memories.

@@benadam7753 Steve Augeri was ok. I very much liked the new songs they wrote with him as the lead singer. As for Jeff Scott Soto, I've never understood why they decided to go with him as the lead singer. I mean, I like his songs and his singing, but he's just not the right sound for Journey. I liked him in Soul Sirkus and in Talisman. As for Arnel, well, he does a fine job resembling Steve Perry's sound but that's it. I've never liked the new songs with him and I feel that today, they're mostly a very good souding tribute band paying tribute to the Perry-era Journey.

I think I've heard better from Augeri; don't think I've heard much from Soto. 'Remember Me' with Steve Augeri was a pretty good tune-- not as memorable as other Journey tunes, but not a bad one to boot! The quality of the tunes of Journey with Steve Augeri are about on par as Asia with John Payne, although Asia with John Payne had better material than Journey+Augeri, though it hasn't been widely circulated or given a greater place in media to be remembered. Asia's Aura album is a gem thanks to John's vocals!!
Augeri was somewhat closer to Perry than Scott. In fact Scott was the worst of them all. But at the end of the day, the band stuck to Pineda not for nothing. The guy's awesomely talented.
I had the distinct pleasure of seeing journey with Steve Perry twice live, once with Steve Augeri , who wasn't bad, i've never seen journey with Arnel Pineda who also is very talented, but Steve Perry is by far the best. You can never badmouth Arnel, he was thrust into an unwinnable situation and his story makes it even better

Arnel Pineda is really good as the front man of Journey but, nobody will every be as good as Steve Perry. I can't listen to Journey with any other lead singer than Steve Perry. He wrote and co wrote nearly all the Journey songs so he sings them from his heart, it's not just singing another song for him, they came from his heart and experiences. Nothing can beat that. Steve Perry is the one an only for me.
If you don't want to hear and appreciate other singer who become a lead singer in this period then better not to continue this band anymore... bring back your original lead singer if that make you only satisfied!!! Be fair..

Why no mention of Deen Castronovo ? He was lead for awhile even while Arnel was there because Arnel couldn't do it all alone so Deen stepped in in did some songs, namely Mother, Father.
Steve Perry is the Voice, Steve Augeri was good, Jeff Scott Soto just help the band to finish with the Tour after Augeri left but Arnel Pineda is the Man, his voice is not like SP but he always is doing his best and is the only one been with Journey for more years 12 uninterrupted to be exact.
the book i read stated the band wanted to move on and not wait for steve perry to take a long needed break so they went on the hunt for a new lead singer steve did not abandon them they abandoned him

No one compares to "the voice", but all the others are worthy. These guys give their best and are amazing in their own right. Arnel is the closest to Perry and Soto is totally a talent largely unrecognized.
Steve Perry IS the voice of Journey and always will be. But it's like one comment posted said, Steve is getting old. The Steve Perry of today isn't the one from the 80's. That one fucking rocked. If your going to have Journey out on the road touring and doing those old songs in todays world, then Arnel without a doubt is the best choice. Hell we all want Perry back in Journey. But what exactly would we be getting? I'm afraid we would get a disappointing reunion. And nobody wants to see their heroes made fun of for simply not having the goods anymore. Actually Steve Perry is singing agean, and his voice is beautiful as ever. as well as he can move around stage as good as ever too. besides there are plenty of singers we would never dream of replacing, and Steve is one of them.
JSS has to be respected for putting himself into those songs. He sounds tremendous, he evokes Steve Perry without trying to sound like him which is very high art. In doing so he treats Perry and the fans with respect,. I like his deep resonance.

Steve Perry all the way! I get goosebumps every time I hear his voice. And his out of this world vocals (especially at the end of Mother, Father) are unmatched. Arnel is a great singer and it's cool that he's been able to fill in. But Journey without Steve Perry just isn't the same to me.

Of course, Steve has no equal. Even a great copy of a masterpiece is still just a copy. However, Arnel deserves some real respect. He revived the old Journey sound and is bringing it to a new generation. It's great the way Arnel honors Mr. Perry and carries so much respect for his long-time hero. Arnel' story is touching as well. He went from homelessness to now having his own foundation that... you guessed it... he feeds homeless kids in his home country. As far as talent goes, Arnel can sound like anybody, it's amazing! You should hear his cover of Alone by the band Heart, or Survivor, Brian Adams, Guns and Roses, even Chicago. I don't think any of those greats in their day could sound like one another at will. That's skill and range. Arnel's respect for the original sound and keeping the soul of the music of that generation should make Steve and all the other bands he has covered very proud.
I think Pineda is the best singer of all Journey front men. His voice varies and is so loud.

And now Neal Schon is in a heated legal battle over the copyrights of the Journey power ballad hits with Jon Cain. Schon has gone off the rails, "CONTROL FREAK" mode! Now, he and Michaela are managing the band, have bodyguards for the dressing room , stage, etc. They paid someone to go through Jon Cain's dressing room. Now, he's had to hire bodyguards, too! Journey, unfortunately, will be history if Neal doesn't get a reality check....now! Perry had a payout deal with the band, as he co-wrote those songs with Schon and Cain, except for two in this battle.
These comments are not necessary. No one is in competition with Perry. Remember your Perry lost his voice a long time ago. The band needed someone to take the place of frontman. Don't take it against the 2nd 3rd or 4th Journey frontman. Arnel Pineda is the most successful Journey frontman after Perry. Arnel has his share of charismatic appeal that helps why the Journey band is still rocking up to now. And he is very humble and yet very talented.

I like the new guy but it's Steve. My Mom died 2 years ago she loved Steve and Journey. I took her to a concert in the 80s. She did not know me in her last days because of dementia but I played Journey. She calmed down and said that guy really sings good. It was amazing she remembered Steve Perry in her mind but not me. I will always be grateful to him for that.

Steve Perry created the bar. Arnel got to experience it, but Deen Castroanova, who is not in any of the vids here that I saw, is flawless in his Perry vocals. Watching him play drums and sing is a thing of beauty, and his vocals are effortless.

That’s why when The Journey through Neal Schon hand-picked Arnel, there was a Divine intervention in there I feel, knowing that Arnel would give justice to their songs. At the same time, God heard and make perfection, His promises to Arnel to grant his wish of recognition not only to his fellow artists in the Philippines and its audience, instead, he gave the world a new energy and a twist in Journey’s songs. As for me, Arnel is never a copycat of any artist for”HE IS HIS OWN MAN OF AN ARTIST “. He does not want to replace Steve Perry because SP among other Journey’s singer has their own time with the group…. And I call it Phase 1 or the First Book of The Journey when they were still younger and middle aged men at the same time. Arnel Pineda, came in the Second Book of the Older Journey…. He is in the Phase 2 or the Phase 2 per se along, Sir’s Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Deen Castronovo and Ross Valory.
What I’ve said above were my opinion during my experience of hearing Journey with Arnel Pineda in main Vocals. I don’t even know, Sir Arnel when he was still based in the Philippines. I first hear him sing in You Tube with their stint in Chile in 2008. I was shocked that the main voice was a Filipino among a group of seasoned artist that of Journey. The rest is history and the beginning of my following and liking the Journey with Arnel Pineda as part of the band. Kudos ‘The Journey’.

In my opinion there is only ONE lead singer of Journey and that's Steve. I was fortunate enough to be a teenager and saw so many of their amazing concerts live. "Day on the Green" is just one of those memories. For those who lived the Journey experience back then, it's really hard to give that loyalty up. Journey will always be one of my favorite bands of all time. So sad that the band hurt Steve so deeply that he will never come back. Makes my heart ache to never see this band play together again. But thank you for the incredible memories.

@@benadam7753 Steve Augeri was ok. I very much liked the new songs they wrote with him as the lead singer. As for Jeff Scott Soto, I've never understood why they decided to go with him as the lead singer. I mean, I like his songs and his singing, but he's just not the right sound for Journey. I liked him in Soul Sirkus and in Talisman. As for Arnel, well, he does a fine job resembling Steve Perry's sound but that's it. I've never liked the new songs with him and I feel that today, they're mostly a very good souding tribute band paying tribute to the Perry-era Journey.

'Remember Me' with Steve Augeri was a pretty good tune-- not as memorable as other Journey tunes, but not a bad one to boot! The quality of the tunes of Journey with Steve Augeri are about on par as Asia with John Payne, although Asia with John Payne had better material than Journey+Augeri, though it hasn't been widely circulated or given a greater place in media to be remembered. Asia's Aura album is a gem thanks to John's vocals!!
Augeri was somewhat closer to Perry than Scott. In fact Scott was the worst of them all. But at the end of the day, the band stuck to Pineda not for nothing. The guy's awesomely talented.
I had the distinct pleasure of seeing journey with Steve Perry twice live, once with Steve Augeri , who wasn't bad, i've never seen journey with Arnel Pineda who also is very talented, but Steve Perry is by far the best. You can never badmouth Arnel, he was thrust into an unwinnable situation and his story makes it even better

Arnel Pineda is really good as the front man of Journey but, nobody will every be as good as Steve Perry. I can't listen to Journey with any other lead singer than Steve Perry. He wrote and co wrote nearly all the Journey songs so he sings them from his heart, it's not just singing another song for him, they came from his heart and experiences. Nothing can beat that. Steve Perry is the one an only for me.

Steve Perry, the original and the best because he was the one who put it on the charts with his strong high natural voice...but Arnel..if one were to ask for the backup to Steve and carry it forward...don't care what anyone else says, he's that guy!

Steve Perry is the Voice, Steve Augeri was good, Jeff Scott Soto just help the band to finish with the Tour after Augeri left but Arnel Pineda is the Man, his voice is not like SP but he always is doing his best and is the only one been with Journey for more years 12 uninterrupted to be exact.

Steve Perry will always be Journey, and every singer that takes this Journey must become Steve Perry, because it was Steve perry’s vocals style that propelled Journey to stardom... There should never be a question of who’s the better singer in a band that was lead by one voice for decades.

Steve Perry IS the voice of Journey and always will be. But it's like one comment posted said, Steve is getting old. The Steve Perry of today isn't the one from the 80's. That one fucking rocked. If your going to have Journey out on the road touring and doing those old songs in todays world, then Arnel without a doubt is the best choice. Hell we all want Perry back in Journey. But what exactly would we be getting? I'm afraid we would get a disappointing reunion. And nobody wants to see their heroes made fun of for simply not having the goods anymore. I hope to God that maybe Steve Perry could get a comeback started that is every bit as good as the work he did with Journey. He will always be my favorite.

Actually Steve Perry is singing agean, and his voice is beautiful as ever. as well as he can move around stage as good as ever too. besides there are plenty of singers we would never dream of replacing, and Steve is one of them.

JSS has to be respected for putting himself into those songs. He sounds tremendous, he evokes Steve Perry without trying to sound like him which is very high art. In doing so he treats Perry and the fans with respect,. I like his deep resonance.

There are one or two that can mimic Steve like a part would, but there is only one Steve Perry his clear diction his range and his tone can not be duplicated.
