This video needs to be aired on public television NOW!! It would hammer home the consequences of drug use/abuse and how depression deeply affects people. It is both heartbreaking and heartwarming. Somehow, LOVE - having it and wanting it - is a common thread in everyone's lives. Musicians have such courage to write songs and to share it with the world! Mahalo, Dancetta for sharing this no-holds barred video recapping Mackey's life. He's singing with the angels now, in Rock and Roll Heaven!!!🤩

I just sat here and cried for 30 minutes. I knew Mackey in the late 70's and early 80's. He was so kind and nice to everyone. This is a sad way for him to be treated by the Courts. His body may be gone, but his spirit and love remain. I see his smile every time I listen to his music. And a huge thumbs up to Dancetta for all she has done to educate the rest of us to the real problems. Love ya!

Aloha, and Thank you for sharing your brother Mackey Feary story. To Dancetta, I'm the guy who just met you in front of Kin Wa Kaneohe yesterday. I met Mackey in 1980 at the Hawaiian Monarch Hotel Piko Lounge. I didn't know who he was, as I was introduced by a friend named Tim Makuaole, as I had just moved to the islands from California. little did I know almost 19 years later I would be working in a facility where Mackey was housed. My sincere condolences in the loss of your brother. I'm glad to have met your brother, and you Dancetta, and should we meet again, I could share with you conversation. Mackey is in the Bossom of our Lord. Aloha.

Absolute tear jerker. This man touches my life on a weekly basis, some of my favorite songs to sing loud on the drive. He lives on through his music, thanks for this video, provided a lot of perspective I’d only heard about but to see him explain it… mahalo

I don’t know why I love his songs, there something special about all his songs.
until I find out that he is a believer in Christ (Wow) Mackey has a precious heart and God found him in the middle of his circumstances. One thing I learned about Mackey life is that there is Always HOPE waiting for us, hope for Christ, coz he is the only one who can understand us, and Love us unconditionally.
    - Thank you Mackey for sharing your life in music.
2021 im still playing your music

Thanx for helping to bring awareness about the struggles of addiction. As the mother of a former addict, I was in denial about my sons depression as a teenager. This denial helped enable him into a full blown addict. By the grace of God my son is now a 32 year old man, clean and sober for almost 4 years. Depression and addiction go hand in hand. That shouldn't be too hard to grasp. Mackey should have had a better chance. He was truly a GIFT TO THE WORLD. You are a wonderful sister, Dancetta. A champion for Mackey and for people suffering the way he did. God Bless you in every way...

Mahalo for sharing this video about Mackey. He truly is one of Hawaii's legends. He shared with us so much of himself and his musical talent, and I am truly grateful to him. He inspired me in the 70's to try and play the guitar and sing, which I still do to this day. I miss him. I will always be a lifelong fan. May he rest in peace and love. Mahalo and Aloha Mackey.

Dancetta: Mahalo for this. God Bless you and your Ohana. I met Mackey. It was in happier times. He was humble, gracious, generous and kind. I can see that in all of your family. Mackey's music got me through some heartbreak and rough times when I was young, and I suspect many of our generation were soothed and comforted by his songs. I am so sad to hear how much pain he suffered. I'll remember the Good Times. Aloha.

Dancetta speaks from the heart and I learned a lot that I didn't know about Mackey and I appreciate him even more, which is pretty hard to do because I hold him in such high regard already. He had a lot of struggles but he dealt with them as best he could.

Thank you for sharing such a personal story of one of the greatest musicians of my time. I heard Kalapana for the first time when they played in Waikiki when C & K went to California in 1973. Macky and the boys in the band were quite young, but so talented. I hope everyone can take the time to listen to this video.

I really believe that treatment for depression and drug abuse works. I struggled with depression-deep depressions for nearly 50 years. Finally kicked it in 2007, thanks to pastors and Christian psychiatrists, and my dear mother. I was a musician too, and was fortunate to have some of my songs recorded. Thank God, that I never died and now live to tell how I overcame it with God's help and the ones he brought into my life to help me! God bless the late Mackey.

A not so long time ago,
    I can still remember,
How his music used to make us smile.
    Mackie snatched up the chance,
To make Hawaii sing and dance.
He had the most contagious kind of Smile!
    But things beyond his control,
Was tugging at his fragile soul,
    Until we heard the word
They took our Loved song bird.
It just can't be, as I cried and cried,
As they laid him beneath Hawaiian skies.
My teenage memories of him still thrive.
But that day, A MUSIC LEGEND died.
    Mahalo Uncle Mackie,
Me ke Aloha you handsome bugga you.

It makes me very angry when I think about how judges and the laws they manipulate to send non violent criminals to jail. I am very familiar with dual diagnosis. Hats off to Mack's Sister who nailed the reasons for Mackey's behavior. Mack is in heaven and is happy now. God Bless the families that struggle with familiar situations and reveal the truth about were the problems lye and or lay, to the people of Hawaii in Christ Jesus name amen.

What makes me most depressed is that Mackey was such a beautiful person and got so screwed over so badly by someone who he loved and could not bear to hang on. Also that he never received the writing praises nor commercial success that Kalapana were due. as
I can't blame him though this world has some dark forces lurking behind pretty faces, law makers and law enforcement sometimes. He really got a bad deal and his punishment truly did not fit the crime.
Shameful of both his wife and the system. My only hope is that he is at peace and forgiveness was granted for his own suicide.

I believe I real problem is as he said proper. Treatment is what people need I believe that when it come to mental health/ addiction that the medical field has failed the people and the law also because only a PhD is qualified to treat these kind of conditions anything less to me is malpractice. Two addicts sitting under a tree is not the right to treat any kind of illness nor is any treatment program with people having just a certification, people can not heal anyone if they are not qualified . I believe these programs should be sued for malpractice. Don't play mind games if your not qualified with a PhD which is a doctor .not addiction is a complicated disease and be left up to people who spent thier lives learning on how to cure this kind of problem.....I know.

He loved "God " mental illness is sad it takes people's lives. He tried rehab and Dr's again the illness won. He was so talented and loved. People that are mentally ill do not have a place in jail. Jail is not qualified to treat it. RIP. GOD BLESS HIM !
