I agree 100% with your statement. But what amazes me is why GCN can't seem to accept the value of 60k is a new technology that is worth the price? Possibly this indoor racer is not their specialty and my advice is to do some research before interviewing or doing coverage. My humble opinion.
Nice emotional sentiment, but it’s wrong. At that level, everyone has the legs. What matters is the technology. This is very similar to the emotional mythology of soldiers, who assert that it’s the man, not the (military) technology. Well, that’s simply not true. At that level, technology provides the competitive advantage. Not one single elite athlete would compete on an old bike! And to drive this point home, AWANG HIMSELF COMPETED ON AN $80,000 TRACK BIKE, a Vorteq WX-R. So this puts the absolute lie to Awang’s alleged quote, doesn’t it?!? 😊
Awang is my favorite rider in track racing! He deserves the most exotic equipment available. He is a legend and continues to dominate at the highest level. He is definitely bringing home a medal if the Olympics go off this year!
I'm an even simpler man, I see a GCN vid, I press like. Tho' I'm working through some issues, like wondering if Dan should be hosting the tech clinic. Just a self-isolation grin, there.
She's got that Murron from Braveheart thing going on, want to meet her on bikes in the rain at night. Tires with tread, of course, it's not a training session after all.
Sir Chris knows the spirit of a racer--ride the best gear a sponsor can buy and it is the story of racing from the beginning, I suppose. And that was the carrot on a stick for me when I was a local racer in DC in the Eighties--everyone on the Whole Wheel Velo team would get a new Nishiki frame for the '84 season. Or something like that is what I heard at the time. Sponsors make the racing world go round and that is a beautiful thing. .
Thank you, thank you, thank you for this! Please, show more track content more often. BTW, what a great job did the team there (specially the spectators interviews idea)!
I'm a bit suprised that she posed the question to Hoy @ 8:15 "£60,000 of your own money" there is no way he is going to answer by saying Yes" so I am disappointed that Manon asked that sort of question.
Hi, loving the fact that we are getting more track info from manon. I’ve just done two seasons at the derby velodrome track league now and would like to know more about track cycling. Things like training programs, tactics etc for new people to track racing. Also, you said 6.7kg for Jason kenny bike. I’ve always thought track bikes still came under the uci 6.8kg rule.
Love cylcling videos just what I need to get it going the blood I love it. I always watch these before I go out and get my body moving. I always watch one of these, and then put up my heavy playlist like Delta Parole, Three Days Grace, System and then I just go haaaaard!!!! Tactic hasnt let me down yet.
Didn't really enjoy the two minutes of what non pro athletes thought of spending money on pro level athletic equipment, could have shown that instead...
Wild tech there. Vittoria "Pista" tires come in 19mm & 23mm widths. That is very interesting considering all the modeling IRT wider tires being more aero.
The track is the last bastion of narrow/high pressure tires. On the track, high pressure tires & narrow rims / wheels still perform better... due to the smooth & consistent surface the velodrome affords. Also of note, would be the indoor environment of most World Cup velodromes tweaks the aerodynamic optimization used.
Low quantity, non-consumer “stuff” always costs 10x or more than productions stuff....how much does an F1 car cost? Way more than even a production Ferrari, AMG, or Corvette.
That WX-R bike price are so expensive because they don't want any other team buys their bike . That's why they're put the crazy price tag . Only azizul can feel that perfect bike and hope he can beat everyone on the track . If someone want that bike they'll sell to them for that price . Crazy
Don't quote me on this as this is speculation, but I think the reason the Malaysian bike (and I think the German bike) is quoted as so expensive is as they're practically one off, so one or two bikes and their components has to shoulder all the cost of the wind tunnel testing, machining the mold etc etc, while the cervellos, pinarello and all the llos are off the peg, so dividing the development cost by just 100 bike will bring the price down massively.
Interesting although the part with the viewers opinions is not: Really interesting and a good omen for the sport, is that the Danes produced 3 world records and several medals on 4 year old bikes !!!
I was really surprised how audience said numbers like 15 to 20 thousand pounds....wow. Id never go beyond like 5k... If i were participating competetively that is . If not i couldnt bring myself to spend more than 2k on any bike ;)
Manon! Just because the wheels don't have valves doesn't mean that you can't line 'em up for your photo/video!!! Now these pristine machines can't enter the bike vault!
The women spectators holding Malaysia flag is always with John Beasley team and off course she know about the price but she pretends not know anything about it.
OMG fantastic to see track tech for a change...... great insight thanks👌🏻😍 But 2 questions what is the UCI track bike weigh limit AND is it best to sacrifice weight for aerodynamics.......💪🏻🤔😀
Uci track weight limit is the same, they weighed Jason's bike wrong, there's no way it's 6.7 with double discs and old cranks. It's probably 8.6. And it's way more important for aerodynamics and stiffness than weight, there's no track weight weenies
I’m from Malaysia, Our pocket rocket man Dato Azizul Hasni Awang said “How matter expensive is the bike but the most important is your LEG”

At least Sir Chris Hoy acknowledges Azizul Awang’s name in this one😅 maybe “Azizul Hasni Awang” is too much of a mouthful for Manon to pronounce 🤷🏼

The track is the last bastion of narrow/high pressure tires. On the track, high pressure tires & narrow rims / wheels still perform better... due to the smooth & consistent surface the velodrome affords.
