I'm sure that more than enough people volunteer to participate, just because it's fun. But I agree, it is more manpower intensive than modern equipment.
I have a 110 Case boiler, Case Sattley plow and a Case Cook car and sleeper wagons When I was a kid use to sleep on a Sawryer Massey steamer when they were thrashing
1 bunker of coal should last 4 hours of plowing. and theres 2 bunkers. and maybe 4 or 5 tanks of water in that time. This gound was a bit wet to be plowing but they were jsut able to go with out spinning out. usualy making 1 round isnt enough to get everyhting good and hot. with going continuous you can reduce the smoke with a hot fire. this is a 14 bottom plow. msot of the 110s pulled 10 in virgen sod.
Man, was that a twelve bottom plow shown at the end of the vid?? If so, thats some kind of power ! Have seen an eight bottom in action at Denton, NC. Very impressive.
Case made traction engines in sizes 9, 12, 15, 20,25, 32 and 50(better know as the 150). these engines turned into 30, 36 then40, 45 then 50, 60, 75, and 110. an 65 and 80 were also made, and a 6-18hp portable only. so they definately did make a 45 in 1910, 11 and 12, and it was the 15 hp prior to that. about 800 traction 110s were made. original cost ws about 3000 to 3600$. Most good ones are capable of producing 140 to 150 hp easily, and even more. these engines were made from 1907-1913.
I have an interesting question: who used large steam engines like this? Was it extremely wealthy farmers? Was it business men who went from farm to farm and rented out their services? Or did most farms have machinery like this that just got scrapped during for the war efforts of the World Wars?
+TheGreatUtopiaCat Actually an internal combustion tractor would last much longer. Steam requires much more maintenance than internal combustion. The fire tubes plug up with soot and the water side of the tubes and tube sheets rust and corrode. That tractor has either had little use or been extensively maintained and restored. Steam can be extremely dangerous too. Here's a link to a steam tractor explosion that killed 4 people and injured 50. lubbockonline.com/stories/073001/upd_075-5251.shtml#.VhOLHLHD_AV
+RagweedFarmer People like you who try and give steam a bad name piss me off to no end. The dipshits who blew up that engine had no clue what they were dealing with and did not take care of that locomotive one bit. STEAM IS AN ACT OF LOVE. Love your engine right, and she'll last longer than you'd think. I'll take this over a grumbly, rotted out 100 year old Honda Civic any day.
+xANGRYxRIFLEMAN exacly an act of love. they are amasing machines but they are not very safe or practical. they take allot to operate and the cost of a mistake is huge
Much less maintenance, costs much less, works faster, less likely to break down at inopportune moments, and less likely to crush you if it rolls on top of you....
Put it this Way all you people that think you have played weith theese boyz b4 you havent and they are WAY more cooler than they look I hae riden on one been on the coal box shoved coal and the boiler and started it up. YES THEY ARE FUN i want one so bad but i hva eto say KORY is only 3hrs Norht of me so I can see these a lot, I hpe al of you can see on of these perform a spark show and get used to the olden days!
Self sufficiency is digging coal out of the ground and chucking it straight in your tractor , one that is so powerful it can damn near dig coal with a plough
@Foxonian Much like the 8' cultivator and Ford 9N my grandfather farmed with, I can't see these things ever coming back. Compared to a modern diesel tractor, they're horribly inefficient not to mention the time and tending needed to build up steam pressure. John Deere already certifies their equipment to run on up to a 20% biodiesel blend and has been shipping with a 5% blend factory fill since the early 2000's. I believe biofuels are the way forward for agriculture at least.
Now that is some serious ass plowing there. I don't even think most new, large tractors can pull a plow that large, most of them can't. I love these old steam engines! I'll bet it could pull 20 loaded school buses, tied together. Great video!
there is alot of work in them to maintain it is not just lite up and go it takes about 4 hrs to lite up i know i drive a mniture steam train and takes longer to put to bed
I would LOVE to see this big, steam Case show up at an NTPA Competition tractor-pull and pull the sled all the way down the track as an expedition!!. I'll bet it would out-pull them all! (Of course it's a lot heavier too!) LOL!!!
a good 110 case can make 1 hp per psi of pressure its running in the boiler at the belt. A friend has his 110 at 140 pounds pressure and can put out 140 hp at the belt
These were hand-built and all the parts crafted with high-quality materials, so it's no wonder why so many of them are still fully usable and reliable.
Hand assembled, yes, but not hand built completely. Stuff like babbitt bearings were made by hand but most of the machine was produced in large factories.
+Carter Wall that is not correct. 1hp is not equal to the entire output of the horse. a hp is the power a horse can put out for a extensive period of time without stopping.
Ricardo. Why is your diesel so high? don't Brasil have plenty of oil? Even our fearless leader try to "Drill baby drill" down there. Amaizing how they killing the farmers. Cutting off the hand that feeds you/the world. Who wins 2014 Copa Mundial? just a question on the side? Best regards
When they restored this tractor, were they able to refurbish the old lamp-oil GPS unit too? Those things were amazing, especially since they depended on homing pigeons.
That is amazing. It took eight guys to operate a 110 HP steam tractor back then.
it takes 2 to operate the tractor the gang plough on the back needs more then one person to operate it
I'm sure that more than enough people volunteer to participate, just because it's fun. But I agree, it is more manpower intensive than modern equipment.
TOO COOL FOR WORDS ! !
I have a 110 Case boiler, Case Sattley plow and a Case Cook car and sleeper wagons When I was a kid use to sleep on a Sawryer Massey steamer when they were thrashing
If I ever win the lottery, I'm buying one of those things. Seriously.
So would I! Except I would get the 75 hp one and modify the wheels so I can run on the pavement!

Very nice and a thumbs up for you.

A lovely thing indeed!
Fabulous ! it's father of the modern tractor
what a awesome beast
I have an interesting question: who used large steam engines like this? Was it extremely wealthy farmers? Was it business men who went from farm to farm and rented out their services? Or did most farms have machinery like this that just got scrapped during for the war efforts of the World Wars?
excelent
This monster must have cost a pretty penny in the day - probably a 'contractors only' jobbie.
can you rev it up?
And NM?
@iwanaGoFast2010 i know nothing about steam engines so calm down
idiotic comments will also burn good :D
lmfao!
@iwanaGoFast2010
what ist common frickin sense?
lets see how well modern veichles work in 100 years

+bert smith Just look at the name, Angry... I think that says a lot. I try not to feed trolls.
+xANGRYxRIFLEMAN exacly an act of love. they are amasing machines but they are not very safe or practical. they take allot to operate and the cost of a mistake is huge
Great improvement over having your wife pull the plow, and much quieter.
lol
bill boyd
😂🤣 How true. No nagging or complaining. Just give fuel and water.
Much less maintenance, costs much less, works faster, less likely to break down at inopportune moments, and less likely to crush you if it rolls on top of you....
*120 decibel steam whistle*
"yes, yes, honey, I'll get to it tonight"
And oil and grease, and coal, and new bearings, etc
How could you not love the sound and beat of these beautiful old beasts !!!
@TheBackyardMechanics because coal burns black when the draft door is closed down.
Put it this Way all you people that think you have played weith theese boyz b4 you havent and they are WAY more cooler than they look I hae riden on one been on the coal box shoved coal and the boiler and started it up. You asked a few questions, i simply answered them. Not trolling, just helping.
Its a steam engine....no turbo, injectors, or programmer. Look it up, you may get a lession in history.
มันใหญ่.. ทรงพลัง..ฉันชอบมัน..love..u..FC..2019.
One of the best traction engines ever built!
What a beast! I love these old steam tractors, though I've never seen one in person that's this powerful.
bubbleboy80 👌OK. 👦You must see one in real action!!! It's worth the money. $$$. A major lifetime experience. Go & see one. You'll get hooked.
ive ran one of thease big 110hp case the are alot of fun
@TheBackyardMechanics Burning coal gives black smoke
Self sufficiency is digging coal out of the ground and chucking it straight in your tractor , one that is so powerful it can damn near dig coal with a plough
Great show nice to see these old machines in fine operating condition.
I love watching old steam tractors and engines work.
these are modded tractors, without catalisator, there is straight pipes from engine
What a monster! I've seen a Case 50 hp work, but this thing makes it look like a toy.
@Foxonian Much like the 8' cultivator and Ford 9N my grandfather farmed with, I can't see these things ever coming back. Фантастика, відчуття нереальності, вловлюєш себе на думці начебто це якась казка або кіно,
What's the coal consumption of a beast like this? How far can you expect to plow on a filling? So, so cool :D
no, i was trolling.
Wow... !!! My best friend, Great... We liked and enjoyed to the end. Thanks Have a happy day!
@TheBackyardMechanics becuase its a racist steam engine
That's quite a crew to run that one machine! lol Things sure have changed!
Im a steam fitter from the UA and would love the a chance to work on one of these....
Torque is so much more badass than Horsepower.
Awesome machines. My Dad has an old duplex steam engine and I have always wanted to hear it run.
I love these old machines! They resemble a steam locomotive somewhat.
there is alot of work in them to maintain it is not just lite up and go it takes about 4 hrs to lite up i know i drive a mniture steam train and takes longer to put to bed
They are called Road Locomotives for a reason! She sounds like a steamer with a heavy load on its drawbar.
ķŕonè11943
these are not "road locomotives" they are made for breaking prairie land in western Canada and the US
@@waterloofreak
I wonder what fuel they burned on the open prairies when they were new. Straw? Dried cow patties?
@@gregorymalchuk272 the one in the video was burning coal You can also burn wood in these two.
To see where plowing has come, check out TH-cam "2005 World Ploughing Record".
Ralph Swartz LAUGHING!
RECORD?
I would LOVE to see this big, steam Case show up at an NTPA Competition tractor-pull and pull the sled all the way down the track as an expedition!!. I'll bet it would out-pull them all! (Of course it's a lot heavier too!) LOL!!!
With enough coal and water it would tow the sled to Bejing!
That's some nice looking soil! Where is this? How much torque would this 110hp steamer make at the belt wheel?
HighlanderNorth1 there plowing in Andover South Dakota
a good 110 case can make 1 hp per psi of pressure its running in the boiler at the belt. A friend has his 110 at 140 pounds pressure and can put out 140 hp at the belt
love old iron theres nothing built today will still be working in 100 years
These were hand-built and all the parts crafted with high-quality materials, so it's no wonder why so many of them are still fully usable and reliable.
Hand assembled, yes, but not hand built completely. Stuff like babbitt bearings were made by hand but most of the machine was produced in large factories.
This is how Americans plowed back in the day. Not by the plow being pulled by a stupid cable and two winch engines.
how many scoops of coil per acre ?
they are still in business today lol google CaseIH, but yea i see your point politically correct idiocy is the way of the world anymore...
Average car has 110 HP so that means car engine could pull the plow just as well perhaps >?
Boring day for the guys riding plow but what a cool machine
Today they are more amazing to look at than ever before!
Too many people not doing anything at the back! Just standing. 👍Great video though. Thanks.
If all the doom and gloom about gas running out in the future comes true, then these old machines just might make a comback.
Very Nice!!!
spelnia wszystkie standardy ekologi :D
@bigred42091 well i am sorry they did make a 45 case for 2 years 1910 and 1911 i had to look back at my book
Und Sie rocken den Acker ! Schönes Video !! Nice steam engine sound´s !
I wonder if you can make one of those 🤔🤨🤨🤨🤔🤔🤔
Cover a lot of ground at a pass...but bitch on the fuel !!
Normally pull just half that many discs?
What a fantastic sight puts my steam waggon to shame
Great to see these old machines working. Thanks for posting!
The smoke says "Hey earth i am back for revenge!"
Its called trolling. Look it up, you may get a kick out of it.
It smokes like a Ford tractor!
What’s makes the black smoke. Just guessed it would be white. Is it coal or is it burning oil?
That is coal burning!
yea the sound is amaizing
its going that slow that even the worms got out of the way of the plow
thats dam cool takes you right back to the industrial revaluation
Brainmalfuction. Correctly is
REVOLUTION!!! ***
@wav5000kb NO IM NOT GOING TO CALM DOWN ITS COMMON FKING SENSE DAMN
Was this shot in McMinnville Oregon by chance
?.
Can you imagine what a mess it would've been if this beast got stuck in the mud... It would take quite the team of horses to pull it out!
110
+Carter Wall that is not correct. 1hp is not equal to the entire output of the horse. a hp is the power a horse can put out for a extensive period of time without stopping.
a team of oxen would be best
The high price of diesel just like to get a tractor to prepare land in Brazil, diesel 1.25 dollars per liter
Laszlo Topos Same in Argentina, almost 1 euro a liter, and we have plenty of oil :(
Sorry to hear that Diego. And also about Argentina in Copa Mundial. Maybe next time I hope.
Laszlo Topos hi there I'm calling for I'm the future. They didn't work n this Copa either
Amen!
When they restored this tractor, were they able to refurbish the old lamp-oil GPS unit too? Those things were amazing, especially since they depended on homing pigeons.
wow, that calls old is gold. thanks for your video. I ever saw. Thanks for posting this.
Was that a 12 bottom plow???
Im gonna build one of those in lawn tractor size and plow my garden with it.
beautiful sound
Put this in a gokart not a tractor for plowing.
With that big flywheel you could run a sawmill too
That would soooo be me! LOL!
Looks like Old Abe is flying high.
What is the second steamer bringing up the rear?
Devagar e sempre!!! Bota galo véio!!!
🙂🔧🛠🔨⚙🚂!!!!!!!
You can hear the rythem of that old engine....
Great Video! Thank You!
Beautifully shot thanks!
Excellent video!
Man You got the old girl looking Good.
Oath. So much force
