And his master shall bore his ear through with an awl, and he shall be his slave forever. 7 “When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she shall not go out as the male slaves do. 8 If she does not please her master, who has designated her[b] for himself, then he shall let her be redeemed. He shall have no right to sell her to a foreign people, since he has broken faith with her. 9 If he designates her for his son, he shall deal with her as with a daughter. 10 If he takes another wife to himself, he shall not diminish her food, her clothing, or her marital rights. 11 And if he does not do these three things for her, she shall go out for nothing, without payment of money.
The grandeur of the basilica truly helped sway my wife to become Catholic. I took her here for her first Catholic Mass as a protestant woman. It was a make or break moment for our relationship. Gamble paid off.
Hi, I’m a cradled Catholic, I just wanted to say that I know you’re a Protestant and I have so much respect for you. The way you just seek the truth and are so passionate and understanding towards the Christian faith is true and so loving. My Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ continue to Bless you and guide you to the Truth which is Christ Jesus, and may He help you to endure for ever
This is what happens when you put God first, Im sure it wasnt easy at times, but its shows that its possible, all things are possible in Christ! Thanks for sharing!
My own church just hit 100 years last October. Though not quite as old as this one, I found myself feeling the same kind of reverence and respect for what the congregation had to endure in that span to keep going to this day. Thanks for sharing, Matt. I’d love to see a full video on this place.
I've been there, Matt! I love your channel, and my Byzantine Catholic friend loves it too. Keep up the good work. As a trained church historian, I can tell you that my field needs more of the kind of generosity and understanding that you have. Even though I'm a sacramental Protestant and not a low-church evangelical as you are, I love the time and effort that you take to see what all of the branches of the Christian tradition have to offer to each other!
What a gorgeous church. Love the place and your words on it. Some pretty special members of a community had some pretty special conversations in the footprint of that building.
Fun Fact about me. My Family has been in the royal family of saint Augustine for I think 5-6 years now, we go to the Congregation 1-2 times a year. we do walks down town, parades, festivals, etc. my mother was Queen Mariana for 2 yrs. my brother was King Juan Carlos for 3 yrs. but he will be king if need be, my sister will be Princess Margarita Maria next year. It is something I joy doing and if you read up till here thank for you time reading there and have a good life :)
Praying for unity in the mystical body of Christ and that is the Holy eucharistic celebration you may disagree but I offer all from today and for the days of my life for accepting Christ in the Holy eucharist
What an awesome reflection on how a church stays together for the long haul. Lots of little good decisions. "A long obedience in the same direction," as Eugene Peterson said.

So true. Reminds me of what we say of the Church being the body of Christ. Each of us play a part but just like we don’t pay attention to every task our bodies successfully carry out, we often don’t give credit to those who do their part in the Church.
That's where I was baptized. It has been remodeled. You missed the best part...The Mission. We are the home of the first Thanksgiving. Lots of history here. Will make you wake up to the false taught in school systems. We even have our own sisters sometimes walking the streets. The fort nearby is an area where Native Americans lost their lives. Mass has been said over time to them directly on those grounds. Our Lady of La Leche, pray for us.
I love how you go and explore all the different Christian traditions. There is so much infighting between us and we all forget that we’re here just trying to serve the same God. ❤
First thing I thought (before watching or Googling) is...."Why wouldn't it be located in the Northeast, in one of the original 13 colonies, perhaps Massachusetts". Then I learn it's from 1565. I am an idiot, but at least I'm eating a Grilled Cheese Sandwich right now, so there's that🥪
Yeah good shout, only when you see the working of a cross generational church do you truly come to respect the efforts required to constantly align it to our ever changing world and the conflicts that brings. So impressive all church maintain themselves.

This was one of the convincing factors to consider the claims of the Catholic Church.
