- It's Day 8 of the fitness and daily vlog challenge. Today I had to go to my dentist on Balboa Island so I decided to take you along with me. I want to also show you around Balboa Island, the Ferry, the Fun Zone and Balboa Pier. I talk to some people on the streets to get advice on things to see and do.

Love that you are in my home town now! Sad we had just moved when we found out you moved in! Got to see your boat a couple times cruising the Harbor before we left though💪
Thanks for the visit. I used to live on the peninsula. My kids were born there and they always talk about going "home". Sadly, I sold my house just before the meteoric rise in property values. Although, if the ocean levels keep rising their eight foot elevation might put your beach closer to Costa Mesa! ;-)

Such fond memories...I proposed to my wife at the top of the Ferris Wheel in 1993...got baptized in the ocean just south of the pier...still have a cup from Ruby's at the end of the pier. Excellent video.
Love Balboa Island! Reminds me of another area I love... Cape Cod! Except warmer! ha! Closest I got was living on the edge of Newport.

grew up on onyx. its still my local, but my house is 2.5 miles away in costa mesa. nice vid. the fun zone isnt so much fun anymore, not like in the 70's and 80's. they had a carousel, bumper cars, the scary dark ride (dark ride), and 2 arcades, not just 1.. surprised you didnt show the pavillion more. the Devil Inside music video was made at and around the balboa saloon, by the director that directed the lost boys movie.

dunno if you said anything about the whale watching tours, out of daveys locker, or the famous Wedge surf spot... john wayne became an actor because he broke his collarbone at the wedge and lost his football scholarship at usc. surf guitar legend dick dale (pulp fiction) broke his nose at the wedge. the whale watch and harbor tours will point out celebrities houses and boats, like john waynes boat. the wild goose.
I am sure enjoying your travels/sailing and other videos that you are presenting since I am a sailor/crew as well.
what caught my eye was the four chair Island - floating dock just port side of your boat moored off of Balboa Island.
Oh, I am a photographer by hobby shooting lots of the island and shot the red chairs earlier. I also did a DINGHY photo show at the museum a little ways back.
I shall lookout for you, maybe at the Galley.

the creator and writer of Arrested Development had a cookie stand on balboa by the ferry landing, which was wrote into the actual show as a frozen banana stand.
This dentist thing reminded me my dentist. One day I asked him why he had removed the "credit cards accepted" sign. He said, he did not want tourists. One USAian client, as soon as he sat on the dentist seat, had declared that "if anything goes wrong I will ask my lawyer to sue you. Now you can start". 🙂

As a non American l’m curious as to what a Dentist check up costs. Wow no green spaces on Balboa island
I know the cost of a dental checkup can vary greatly. I’d say anywhere from $100 to $300. True regarding the green space. Pretty crazy. There is a TINY park if you look closely on the satellite image called Balboa Island Park. It’s on Agate Ave right near the ferry dock.
5 to 10 mıllıon... For a much lower prıce, you get a better seavıew wıth a boat, though boats tend to loose value ın tıme and the houses gaın...
As someone from the UK, can you tell me if Balboa island is expensive and if the beach is lifegaurd patrrolled?Thanking You Hazel in the UK
Good day. Balboa Island has normal prices for that area. That said it’s a bit touristy so for example where a coffee may cost $3 in normal spots, it might be $5 there. So not crazy but expect to pay a tourist prices. There are no hotels on Balboa Island so I assume you’re just talking about restaurants and shopping. As far as lifeguards, the main beach area is across that ferry near the Balboa Pier. There are some lifeguards there. Not a lot but you’ll find a lifeguard station every few hundred meters or so.
