Founding Artistic Director and CEO of the Miami City Ballet Edward Villella talks about the power and beauty of dance and how the art crosses boarders as a universal language.
I know. Its through sytcd that i get interested in Miami city ballet. Would be fantastic to see him on the show, representing Miami ballet don't u all think?
Miami City Ballet, as with almost any contemporary ballet company out there today, does not only employ 'classical' ballet in its repertoire; there are plenty of modern and jazz pieces in their repertory. The only thing you won't usually find in a ballet company today probably is tap.
by Dane Youssef My dance teacher met him once. They had a "meet cute," as coined by Roger Ebert. Which means a rather funny and cute introduction. They were dancing at the same show and she accidently stepped on his toe. This guy, Villella was renown as the bad boy of ballet. A dancer who was born and raised in Queens, into baseball and boxing. But was pushed into the life by his mother (who needed day care). But he fell in love and became a dancer full-time. by Dane Youssef
If I had a choice between being a principle dancer in a professional ballet company, or a flash in the pan on a TV show, I would pick the pro company. He is a money maker for the company, so they had to keep him. That's what business is about. He can come back to the TV show later and even better! We will wait for him. :)
He is definitely NOT A JERK! All he wanted to do was be well versed in other dance styles beyond ballet since there are so many others He felt trapped in doing just ballet and he had an emotional breakdown when he found out he wasn't able to get out of his contract. It doesn't matter if it's a renound company if you're not happy there and it's not in your heart.
Yeah. I believe thats what happened to Danny in S3. He just got up and left ABT. I know this person that just signed on with a ballet company ans she does say that ballet is very repetitive and basically every day is the same. I'm just wondering is this true?
Ah is it just me or does Edward Villella totally remind anyone else of Al Pacino's character in Donnie BRasco?? The voice, the mannerisms. Random.. I know..
THis is exactly the kind of video I just eat up...I wish it were longer.

My dream!
I heard this song in a dance that Maya Dumchenko was dancing to. Does anyone know that name of it?
Alex put this Company on a Pedestal after he was in SYTYCD!
Great expectations for the members of the MCB because of Alex!
totally agree with you. Why the hell would he want to enter a comp?! He already IS a dancer!!
my dream one day I'll be there

is the miami city ballet a good company to go to and perform, you know?
It's not that Vilella didn't LET him be on the show...its because when you become top 20 you get paid and that was against his contract with MCB.

the reason alex wanted to go into SYTYCD is because he wanted to do other styles other than ballet he should be in the competition
Love
