    Great video. Usually I just take the blade out and leave the handle together to clean my Benchmade's but if I ever have a need to fully take apart a Benchmade I'll definitely be using this video as guidance. Great job Nick. Well done.

    As someone with little exposure to the internals of modern folders I'm really enjoying these videos. Please keep them coming!

    I've always wondered what the dirtiest knife you've had was and how truly effective a good cleaning can be. I think after watching this I now know. Thanks for another excellent video!

    I've noticed the same inconsistencies with the washers in my Benchmades. I usually run them over a fine grit bench stone then strop them.

    Thanks for doing this video. Just bought mine and it came the same way. It was bone dry and a little over tightened. Now mine swings almost as well as yours lol My first Benchmade. :)

    Watched this video while polishing the washers on my new Crooked River. They were super un-flat. It didn't completely fix the side to side play, but it made it a great deal less noticeable. Also really improved the action as well.
    Fortunately for me I didn't have to take down the entire knife. (I've taken down some Ganzo axis locks before...and they are not pleasant to reassemble).

    My god was putting the pin back difficult. I have managed to center the blade by pulling back on the axis lock while installing the pin and it worked...Atleast the knife is smooth as butter now.Thanks for the vid.

    They do in fact sell empty needle-applicator bottles in the Amazon. Been meaning to grab one for loctite dispensing myself.

    Great vid Nick ! I've been having a damn fit here lately with a couple of my Benchmades ... After maintenance , after putting loctite in the pivot , I tighten the screw and it's too much , let off and it's too lose - there is no middle ground where I don't have blade play !!! I've tried loosening or tightening in extremely small increments , but nothing works ! I honestly don't know why I bother with Benchmade anymore ?!?! They are soooo inconsistent !!! Hell , even the blade has vertical play when touching the axis lock bar on 3 of them ! lol It's sad !!! Oh , and I'm still searching for a better way to apply loctite ! There's been a couple times a little too much came out of that damn tube !!! Haha

    Really digging that G10. Not a huge fan of the axis lock in general, and Spyderco does it better in their Manix and the like anyway, but I could definitely see myself enjoying the Rift with that really nice reverse tanto profile

    You could feel the tension. The pivot was riveting! (knife metaphors) Benchmade is probably a good example of why most people don't disassemble knives. A thread on BF revealed that very few (of those participating in the thread) do. But your results speak for themselves. It's worth doing.

    Phosphor Bronze washers are STAMPED out of sheet stock. The stock is VERY consistent in thickness (typically +/-< 0.0001). You can expect dishing of the final product, with the edges of the finished washer dishing UP in the direction from which the center hole has been punched.

    You can try getting a needle or hypodermic needle for the lock tight.

    I bought empty nail polish bottles with brushes in the caps and they work great with the liquid loctite. Remember, do not fill the bottles as loctite cures when not exposed to air.

    What do you do if you strip a screw head?

    • @NickShabazz
      @NickShabazz  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1) Cry
      2) Email the manufacturer for a new screw
      3) Extract by grinding out a slot-head groove, or using a rubber band, or a stripped screw extractor set OR Shrug and superglue, if it's a cheapy.

      @todaysgrailtomorrowsbeater 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks.. I'm gonna try the grinding. I've had way too many BM pocket-clip screws strip on me.

    If you’re just using loctite for the screws, you can just squeeze the bottle so the loctite reaches the opening of the tip, and then just dab the threads of the screw in it.

    Do a "Nick Outdoors" episode. Go camping with the girl freind before summer ends and show off a few knives youd consider ideal for camping cooking as well as thick rope cutting and wood widdling.

    Yet another very expensive Benchmade knife that works like a cornerstore $25 dollar special. I really don’t know why people keeping buying from this company. The precision work coming out of companies like WE knives blow Benchmade out of the water. Who cares if it’s American made if it’s garbage? And why the easily stripped T6 screws on the body? Having worked on my Fact for far too long I can appreciate the miracle you just pulled off on a Benchmade knife- wow it works and is centered. A Benchmade. What a miracle. How long before it goes off again? 😎🤣

    I cringe ever time I see you shove that torx bit in the pivot hole and start using it as a punch pin. The safest thing to do is use the pivot screw you just removed. Tread it back on just a few turns (enough for 3-4 threads to engage) and push on top of that. There are less chances of damaging threads this way.

    • @NickShabazz
      @NickShabazz  8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Probably safer, you're right. But then again, making you cringe is fun...
