I love how long the wait my body wouldn't let me blink. Something I find scarier than nightmares is when you wake up from a nightmare with zero recollection of what it was. The ultimate fear of the unknown would be being scared of something because you feel fear but not knowing it's source. Idk if that makes sense.

My scariest childhood nightmare (I had this nightmare one time only, as a 5 year old, and still to this day remember it very vividly at age 29):
The nightmare starts with me waking up in my bed in my room. Immediately there is a nagging sense of loneliness; plus, the house is too quiet (no TV or conversation heard in the distance like usual). I emerge from my room, which is on one end of the house. I slowly walk through the entire one story ranch style home, calling out "Mom?", "Dad?", and "Victoria?" (My sister's name). As I pass my parents bedroom, I look in, and no one is there, and the bed is completely made up. As I pass my sister's room, I see she is also not there, and her bed is completely made up as well. I'm the youngest in the family, so the loneliness quickly becomes scary and I've only made it halfway through the entire house.
I walk through our den and kitchen to find everything in its place and normal, except for the lack of people! Usually, my parents would be in the kitchen making coffee or sitting in the den watching the news, while my sister would most likely be on one of the couches in the den reading a book. But this morning in this nightmare... No one seems to be around.
I finally make it to the very other end of the house, where the dining room is. My mom is sitting at the head of the table, but with the way the table and myself are positioned, my mom's back is facing me. Two things about this are super weird: 1. We never eat at the dining table (per my mother's request); instead, we always eat in the kitchen since meals were mostly pretty casual, and 2. My mom was eating cereal for breakfast, which she absolutely hates. I walk right up to her, tap her on the shoulder, and ask "mom?" again. There's a few seconds where my mom seems frozen and doesn't move, then her head turns all the way around like an owl while her body stays sitting with her back still facing me. Once her head is all the way turned around and looking right at me, her eyes roll into the back of her head, her mouth opens scarily wide (as if her jaw broke), and out pour multiple large snakes from my mom's mouth. The first few were so big, only one or two could come out at a time, but as more came flowing out of her mouth, the snakes got smaller, but the amount of them increased! It was a never ending flow of snakes coming from her mouth. I have no clue why I didn't immediately wake up from this terrifying sight... I stayed paralyzed in fear as the room filled with snakes. I woke up once I couldn't see the floor anymore, just snakes. All the while, my mom is just sitting there, looking like a corpse with her jaw broken and snakes just pouring out. Completely terrifying and scares me to this day to think about!

I had a dream I was in big room like a dance studio with one wall that was all mirrors. It was brightly lit and full of people, all my friends were there too. I’m scared of mirrors in real life so I was standing with my back to them refusing to look. My friends started teasing me a little and encouraging me to turn around and see there’s nothing to be scared of. I feel silly and turn around to look. My reflection spreads it arms open in excitement and smiles back me, “See, there’s nothing to be scared of!” I woke up so fast I actually jumped out of bed

wow! you have great skill in your angles and cinematography. this was absolutely great! i found this video at 4am and watched it in the dark and got genuinely frightened, even teared up slightly lol, especially that person on the bed, that was scary. i just wanted to tell you to keep up the excellent work! i have a nightmare that i remember very well from my childhood. everything that i an about to describe was all inside my dream. "it was dark throughout my house, i was lying in bed thinking to myself that i had woken up for some reason and sat up in my bone chilling covers. i keep my comforter at the foot of the bed for those cold nights like it was now. i lean over, reach and grab it and pull it up to myself. a flash of lightning lit up the hallway outside my room as i sleep with the door open and the hall has big windows. there was no sound from any storm or thunder or lightning but what i saw what the illumination of a small silhouette of a person in the hallway as it the light from the lightning came and went. then the most hoarse cackling came from that direction followed by one final lightning flash that revealed the silhouette right in front of my door, holding in their right hand a long shiny blade that shone in the flash of light.
and then i woke up. i was so scared i made the dark long walk to the other side of the house to my parents room to sleep in their room. when i came in to their room i went to wake up my mom only she wouldn't wake up no matter how hard i tried, as i turned to give up and go back through the dark to my room i stepped in something wet on the carpet and went to the bathroom to dry my foot. as i turned on the light of the bathroom i realized i stepped in blood near my moms bed. as i turned to look up slowly in the mirror i saw the same long ahiny blade covered in blood swing once and end it."
and then i actually woke up and decided it was best to stay in my bed.

Bitesized Nightmares hey, I loved the vid, it really scared me! But just a thought, you may want to put a warning at the beginning for people with epilepsy. I don't have seizures, and it was starting to bother me, but I'm not sure if that's something that would be potentially triggering for someone who does. Have a great day!

    • @BitesizedNightmares
      @BitesizedNightmares  6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Hello. That’s actually crossed my mind a few times about some of my other videos but I never thought this one was a risk. I assume you’re referring to the flickering at the beginning. I don’t really know enough about epilepsy to know if this would trigger something or not. I will look into it and if the video warrants a warning I will put one in.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

    • @retzerclan9093
      @retzerclan9093 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Bitesized Nightmares yes, I was referring to the TV flickering. I don't know much about epilepsy, just a little because one of my Da's friends had it. With her, even the flash of a camera could set it off. I don't know about the other videos, because I haven't watched them yet, but I'm going to. Thanks so much!

Had a nightmare where I was going through the motions and taking a shower, the whole routine of cleaning up, when I got to brushing my teeth, I looked in the mirror and watched it, it looked completely different. My reflection had deep “wrinkles”, like the effect when you’re in water too long, but they sunk and wrinkled deeper than they ever shoulder go, making it look psychedelic and ribbon-esque. It blinked without me, and I turned to the bathroom exit to leave, but it climbed out and touched me, “wrinkling” my skin into ribbons as well. I woke up before anything else happened, but I‘m ridiculously scared of mirrors and looking myself in the eyes now.

I used to dream about coming downstairs and seeing people that weren't my family in the house. A woman and a man were sitting on the couch talking, with weird hats on. I couldn't make what they were saying. I was peeking around the corner of the stairs and looking down at them. Then, my foot creaked on the top step and they were alerted to me being there. The man stood up and I ran to my room and shut the door. I could hear the feet still coming up the stairs. My heart would be racing even as I woke up

Hi. Boy, you really caught the feeling of a nightmare. I was plagued by nightmares as a child to the extent that I refused to sleep, I was still at primary school age and it deeply affected my education. It got so bad that my doctor wanted to prescribe me sleeping pills to knock me out at night, something my parents were staunchly against thankfully.
I'm 57 now and three of those nightmares have stuck with me for over 50 years. I've given them names, The Wall, The Chute and The Kitchen. I'm happy to recount them for you but it'll make for a very long post. Just a bit of a pre-warning.
The Wall. I'm walking along the top of a long, narrow brick wall. On either side is a bottomless black void. It's very difficult to keep your balance, the bricks are old and crumbly and the wall is thinner than the width of my shoes. Behind me walk the rest of my family, I can't see them but I know they're there. To fall is to die, I know this with utter terror and unshakeable certainty. We move slowly forward but the wall seems to go on forever into the blackness ahead. I hear my father stumble and lose his footing, I don't see him fall, I hear his screaming as he plummets to his doom but he seems to scream forever. I can hear my mother crying then my brother and sisters weep with fear and loss. We move ahead. Next to go is my mother, I hear her shrieking as she falls, over and over again. We move ahead. One by one the others fall into the void until, inevitably, I am the last one left. I move ahead. I start to lose my footing and begin to topple over. I wake up at this point, terrified in the dark.
The Chute. I'm on a water slide and I'm going very quickly. It's gradually getting narrower and narrower until my arms are pinned by my sides and I can't move. A feeling of horrible claustrophobia is pressing in on me and I'm picking up speed. I come to the realisation that, when I reach the end of the chute, I will cease to exist. I will be erased from the world completely. I try to slow down and stop but I can't move my arms or legs and the sides of the chute are as smooth as glass. I can hear the people ahead of me screaming as they sink out of existence. I know it'll be my turn soon and I can do nothing to stop it.
The Kitchen. I only had this dream once. I dreamt I came downstairs from my bedroom. All our kitchen furniture is gone. There's no one around, everyone is just gone and I'm all alone. I hear a knock on the front door and I can see from the shapes through the glass panel on the door it's my mum and dad. I open the door and, yes, it's my mum and dad standing there but their faces are monstrous and their skin is a horrible grey colour and looks kind of loose. They both shriek as they attack me. I wake up.

    • @Cash42
      @Cash42 ปีที่แล้ว +3

The Chute sounds what I would imagine it’d be like to be abducted by a spaceship, especially now that I’ve watched Nope. Not once have I thought claustrophobia when thinking about my fear of aliens, but the idea of being unable to move through a narrow passageway while you’re not in control sounds terrifying to me.

    • @midnightmosesuk
      @midnightmosesuk ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@Cash42 I think the wall and the chute are about my fear of death. We're all on one course from which we're unable to deviate, our journeys all inevitably end with death. Like walking along a narrow wall or traveling down a restrictive chute, we can't escape what's at the end of our lives. In the case of the wall I must have realised my family were also doomed to the same fate as they fell and died behind me. In the chute, and here's a detail I forgot to mention, I could see out of my tube and could see loads of other chutes all containing other people in the same predicament. Everyone travelling to their own demise at the end and unable to escape.

The first nightmare I ever had, at maybe 5 or 6 years old, I still remember. I was in the playground of my school, and it was just at sunrise. There was a decent fog, and I could sort of see the frame of the swings casting slices of shadow through it. I walked towards them and I saw a frog in the grass ahead of me. It was being pecked at by a large crow, who I knew was trying to eat it.
I scared away the crow, and the frog suddenly stood up on it's rear legs and grew to my size. It grabbed me by the shoulders and said "Thank you." I remember waking up screaming. I have no idea why I was so terrified, but i remember it like it was yesterday.

There was this reoccurring dream I kept having when I was probably around 4 or 5 at the time. It was always pitch black, with a cabin being far off in the distance. Just the sight of this cabin made me terrified but there was no where else to go. And as I got closer,it became increasingly obvious that there was someone there, waiting for me. I don't remember much else

    My worst childhood nightmare:
I dreamed I woke up and went to the bathroom to get a drink of water. On my way, I saw a strange dark shape in the living room. I stood there watching to see if it would move, but instead of it moving, I felt the sensation of something running towards me from the opposite direction down the hall.
I immediately ran out of the house but the sensation of being followed never ceased. I ran to my backyard and went straight for the sliding glass door where I was able to get inside only to realize the door wouldn’t lock. The only way to keep it closed was to stay there, inches from the glass, holding the door closed.
I could hear it gently tapping on the glass and occasionally saying, “Pssst.”
    I never opened my eyes.

A nightmare I had when young : I dreamed I had woken up with my jaw locked up & my upper & lower teeth separated & criss-crossed so that I couldn’t unlock my teeth. I was frozen like that. As well, my fingernails were so deeply embedded in my palms (fists) that if I pulled them out, both hands would bleed profusely. I remember trying to scream but my voice wouldn’t come . I shook violently for at least ten minutes before I realized this whole condition was a dream. I had nerve tension issues stemming from daily stresses that produced this horrible condition in my brain. But it was a terrible nightmare.

I’ve recently discovered your work and I’ve had a nightmare log for a long while when I had a huge streak of nightmares, here’s the one that reminds me of your work the most. I was about 7 years old when I had this for context. I had a nightmare where I was dropped off at a old run down cabin that was in the middle of the parking of this strip mall. I went and knocked on the door and a older lady maybe in her 50s answered and let me in. We talked a bit and had a nice time, but I noticed on her back porch there was a pile of bikes. I kind of freaked out and asked her about it and she admitted that she ate children but she wouldn’t eat me because she liked me. Suddenly the power cut out and one of those 90s tvs turned on with static. A eye showed up over the static switching position and size on the tv, while a deep almost deafening voice chanted something about the lady atoning for her sins over and over again. At this point I’m freaking out and crying while the lady stands there looking annoyed at the whole situation and I’m begging her to let me call my parents. She reluctantly give me a phone and I sit on the porch crying because it’s a rotary phone not plugged in and I can’t figure out how to make it work.

My sister was in her bed and laughing and talking to me while I stood in the hallway. Then she put her head down and went straight to sleep. This little boogeyman creature who was shorter than me appeared and held my hands so I couldnt move. I tried to talk nicely to it so it would let me go. I said, "let me go." It had a creepy smile as it said, "no." It woke up after that. Scary af at the time. The hallway was dark and the rooms were dark and I was the only one walking around.

The two children I had to look after had a fondness for the kitchen fridge. The big house was dark. The little boy managed to look in the fridge, he turned towards me and his sister and his face was horrible. The smile, the eyes, the sound were all wrong. I took the little girl by the hand and ran away. Turning around I saw that something dark was picking up the boy and carrying him into the darkness. He was still smiling. End of dream.

Here is a recurring nightmare I had when I was little:
I was at one end of a long hallway and I was stuck lying down on the floor. My head was conveniently propped up so that I could stare down the hallway. I see this nun at the end of the hall with no face, coming towards me very slowly, like at a snail's pace. Only her legs weren't moving, she was just gliding.
I had this dream many times and sometimes I would wake up before she got to me, but sometimes I wouldn't and she would pick me up and sling me over her shoulder before carrying me away.

I once had a nightmare that began in my bedroom. In my dream it was really early in the morning, and i felt as though i had just woken up from sleeping. I remember a really soft blue light seeping in through all the windows, like the night was maybe an hour away from beginning to break. I don’t remember actually hearing anything in my dream, but i remember feeling like i had heard my dad being awake downstairs, and that something about the way he sounded made him sound a little frantic and unnerved. I went out of my bedroom and down the stairs, and walked through the house before eventually finding him in the kitchen. I don’t remember exactly what he had said to me, but he was trying to explain to me that he might have heard something from outside. He had heard it and was now cautiously walking around the house trying to follow the sound. He wanted me to make sure i didn’t wake up my sister. I was already awake so i stuck by him, until at one point he walked towards the door to our garage. I remember leaving his side, scared. I wanted him to come back from the door. He opened it, and a blue light touched my dad’s outline and the edges of our hallway. I couldn’t see it yet in the dream, but i knew that meant that our main garage door had been opened. My dad had always made sure that that door had been shut before we slept, so in my dream i began to realize that something was horribly wrong. I was silent and filled with dread as i watched my dad walk through the open door, hearing him walk through the garage. After what felt like minutes of silence, i crept around the corner so i could see out of the open door. It was empty. i couldn’t see much besides the contour lines of the normal things we had stored in our garage, which were now illuminated by the blue glow of night. I could see no sign of my dad inside the garage or outside its open sliding door, so i began slowly walking into the garage myself. i remember feeling like it was impossibly silent. I felt a deep fear swell as i pored over the inside of the garage. I couldn’t see anything until i saw movement. a small man began walking out of the shadows towards me with urgency. i remember that his energy felt primal. he pushed me to the ground and began striking my back with blows so vividly painful that my dream self nearly fell unconscious. The next portion i remember is my dad and i somehow back inside. It felt like he was propping me up or dragging me, and i was scared. He was trying to explain what we had to do, but none of it made sense to me. i felt like i was paralyzed, all of my limbs responding sparingly to my desire to move them. my dad was really nervous, and that made me terrified. i looked out our window, and in the low light i could see the shape of the trees that we had in our backyard. hiding behind these trees, i began piecing together another shape; an impossibly tall, pale human form. it had to have stood at 12 feet, and its hands swung at its sides. it was pale, and it wasn’t wearing clothes. i couldn’t tell if it had a face or not. i pointed at the figure and tried to say something to get my dad’s attention. He eventually saw, and he stopped talking. The whole house fell into silence again, and for a moment, we could only both watch. my eyes were cemented to the figure. It began walking out from behind the trees and parallel to the house, revealing more of its form. It wasn’t walking directly towards the house, but something about it felt so wrong. Fear and dread washed over me, and I awoke in a cold sweat.
Whenever anyone ever asks me about bad dreams, that’s the one I always tell em about

Very well illustrated here. There has always been something about the woods at night that have bothered me. Especially through the vale of looking out a window.

Reminds me of a basement nightmare.
The dream was completely fine. Something about buying a dog.
Its what happened in the end that made me wake up sweating.
So i opened this basement door because my dog kept scratching at it.
I open it and he went straight inside.
Disappeared in the dark, went silent.
      Still standing by the door.
My eyes adjusted in the dark down the strairs.
I see a empty milk carton on the first step.
When i saw it i immediately knew it was a disguise of something.
The milk carton suddenly turned into this fast white humanoid thing crawl/running up the stairs.
It startled me and made me fall back.
While i was falling i was wanting to close the door. But thr door was opened outward toward the basement, making it impossible to close with me falling back.
Im now on my back. And hearing thudding and thumping of hands and feet heading to the open door.
All i saw was the top of the head and the eyes and i woke up sweating.
The head was just pale white. And the eyes where just average. But very excited.
Not my worst one but one i fear remembering alot.

I had a nightmare that was similar to the movie The Descent but this was long before the movie came out. Myself and some friends came across an abandoned mine shaft. We were laughing and having a good time. Armed with a flashlight we entered the dark. The farther we went, the fear kicked in. As I shone the light down into the blackness, a bright white figure darted out of the beam. A girl screamed. Which in the cavern was extremely loud. We all started to freak out. Then, as in most horror movies, the flashlight started to flicker. Each time the light when off and on, the thing would get closer. Then I felt something grab my ankle and pull me down. Everyone was screaming. I dropped the flashlight and in the beam was the nightmare creature. Bright white skin, long arms and legs, very wirey...it crawled on all fours towards me and as it got closer, I saw it had no face. Then I woke up. No bullshit that was YEARS ago. I'm 43 and it was probably from my teens. Funny how some just stick. I have a few, actually, that have just lingered in my brain and I can almost remember them as if they happened last night.

I’ve had many childhood nightmares that I remember quite clearly
One that always sticks out is one I had when I was just 4 years old.
My brothers and I are playing with our toys in the basement. My mom is upstairs with the radio on that we can hear muffled through the basement floor. I go upstairs to get a drink and knock a strange can with some form of liquid in it on my way upstairs as the song “I Just Called to Say I Love You” by Stevie Wonder comes on the radio. My mom tells me she loves me but starts to cry and I don’t know why. The next thing I know smoke is coming from the basement and suddenly the song on the radio doubles in volume. My mom is hysterically crying and I’m shouting to her that the house is on fire. I hear my 2 year old brother screaming and my older brother shouting that he needs help with Richard (my younger brother) I want to go down to help but am too scared. The song on the radio gets louder and muffled sounding as if someone cut all of the high frequencies. Eventually my older brother rushes upstairs through the smoke but my younger brothers screams become no more. My brother and I exit the house as it burns. My mom is nowhere to be found but that damn song won’t stop playing until I finally wake up.
For years after this dream, anytime I heard that song on the radio I grabbed my little brother and ran out of the house. Unfortunately he is no longer with us. I wanted to save him but like in the dream I felt helpless in being able to do anything for him. I dedicated my last film to him.

My scariest nightmare happened exactly once and i was 7. I have no clue how my mind came up with this. The only thing i can think of is the movie Return To Oz. It was mine and my sisters favorite. In my dream im walking on a dark beach with rocks all around me. Since im from California theres usually huge cliffs and rocks that jut out into the water. Im looking for my mom ( or anyone since im by myself). When i turn a little corner one of the bigger rocks suddenly opens very large human looking eyes and tells me im going the wrong way.

I've been writing down my dreams every morning since I was a boy (that's a lot of time!:), I think nobody has ever done such a thing before ; I'm about to make a book out of all my _libris somni_ with some AI imagery, but of course moving images with sound/music it's on another level... I watched Skinamarink tonight, I really liked it, and I think you could find some interesting material in my work... actually, now that David Lynch is out of the game, I guess you're the only one that could do that ... properly ... by the way, I've got some good nightmares in the bunch ... anyway, congrats for your feature film, it was about time for me to give 8 stars to a movie on IMDB!!! Cheers from Italy

Huh. So this is what it feels like to have your heart in your throat.
I had a couple of feelings while watching this.
First was "oh dude thats pretty scary. Woman just standing there facing away from me. Then the moment she moved was that split second, i realised that she was not facing away. But was facing me.
    Thats actually crazy lol
i like horror in a sense. I just like to know what happens. Am i a pansy? Yes.
    Ik werid mix.
I like being feared if anything.
To coop with my fears of being alone, i try to become the monster.
Instead of being scared, it became fun for me.
I remember being 12 in the dead of midnight. My mom and dad asleep. I wasnt sleepy.
I go downstairs crawling all fours and then slowly open the door without making any sounds.
I then go to the street walk behind a light pole and just waited for people.
If i found people i just followed them as far as i could without being lost.
I remember one of them actually caught me once.
Neither of us reacted to us staring at each other.
This random adult Male was just looking at my eyes and can only imagine what he was thinking with me being a small skinny 12 year old in pjs and a hoodie. He just walked off.

Not sure if this is too gory, but imma write it anyway.
It was a while ago now, I must have been like 7 or 8 or something like that. In the dream I was in my bedroom and it must have been around midnight, it was very dark and the only light that was coming into my room was from the hallway (we always keep the light on there). I saw this long shadow block the beam of light coming into my bedroom and stand there for a bit. I completely froze but then the shadow moved away. I got up and opened my door after a few seconds to see what it was. There was nothing in the corridor, but I noticed my sister's light was on so I went over to her room to see what was up and she and my mum were both in the room. Standing over them was a skeleton. He was wearing a suit (pretty sure he was basically just jack skellington). I don't remember much of how they died, I just know he killed them. There was a few seconds silence before he turned around to look at me. Then the dream ended.

I can picture this whole nightmare in my mind. The yellow light from the hall. Your sisters room. The skeleton man. It’s almost as if he stopped by your room first but decided to spare you for some reason. Or maybe he was waking you up so that you could see what he did to your mom and sister.

Hello! I just want to say I wish I'd discovered you sooner, but I'm glad I know now. Skinamarink REALLY tapped onto my personal nightmares: Entities who have no qualms about harming children and that feeling of helplessness every time you look for help. In every nightmare I've ever had, the horror wasn't 100% in the monsters or whatever terrifying situation I was in. It was the fact that I either couldn't ask for help or every time I did, the person I'd ask would just smile and ignore me. I once had one where I called for help and the voice replying to me on the phone was that of the monster hunting me 🫠. You're amazing and I hope to see more from you in the future!!
