I’ve been using the textured side of Canson Mi Tientes. And some watercolor paper. But I just ordered Mungyo white oil pastel paper because I already use their soft oil pastels. I wanted the Sennelier, but went with the more economical.
Thank you John for another interesting video. Glad to see my favourite Mont Martes being used. I’ve been experimenting a lot and have found that by using a pan pastel sofft tool with a cheap compatible sponge tip that I can get a nice smooth blend on either side of the Canson. As Pastelmat didn’t make an appearance I’m guessing that might be your favourite.
No not at all. I think it may be one of my least faves but I have avoided using it so far. I don't think I would get on with it in the earlier parts of a painting as it isnt the best for blending as it is not really meant for blending to that extent. I have to say the Pentels may be good on it though as I feel they might compliment each other but I will try one day! Glad the vid was ok x
This is great because I have a ton of Mi Tientes that I do NOT enjoy using with my soft pastels, so super duper, new life with oil pastels. John, just wanted to ask if you're aware of nail tees? They're a cotton swab usually targeted for use for manicures, but I am thinking they would be great with the oil pastels. One end is very pointy, and the other is more rounded than the standard J&J shape. So you have a detail end and an end for larger areas; the brand I get here in the US is quite firm.
I‘m a relative new comer to watercolour, & am interested in other mediums, unfortunately after about 1 years trying to discover paper & oil pastel suitable paper found by accident your video, although I don’t have your experience or range of oil pastels, I thoroughly adhere to what you show us about varying oil pastels & suitable papers. And, as I know too little I‘ve returned to Pitt pastels for detail & have little success with oil pastels. But, later will try out my papers & pastels as you do, hoping for better results. Thanks
Thanks Valerie, I appreciate that. Please give oil pastels another shot as over time I will show you how to use them properly and also more papers etc inc my favourite. I hope I have persuaded you to try and to subscibe x
@ Although I‘m very interested, at the moment til beginning of December my hand is in plaster after a fall so although I‘ve tried with left hand, all very wobbly! I will look through my various paper & pastels when I ‚ve time. But, I can watch videos.
@@valeriegehling4358 Sorry to hear that. Hope my videos help in some way even if it's just t pass the time whilst your hand is in Plaster! I have Covid at mo so feeling sorry for myself!
Thanks, John! I like the texturing on the Clairefontaine aqua blend - is it the Aquapad? I haven't found any called Aqua blend. I've been enjoying the Papelsino paper, it's quite smooth, but has surprisingly good grip and has vibrant saturated colors.
