The stopped making the 1100 because of the Reagan tariff that added a huge tax to any imported motorcycle greater than 700CC. This was enacted to prevent Harley from going bankrupt. It worked. The tariff expired in 1988 but they had stopped making the Sabre. The Sabre was designed for the U.S. market.
Great point! So many don't understand how Japan had to dodge the bullet when this happened. All 750's got de-stroked to 700's, and all prior engines destined for USA that were 750's had to go to other countries.
Love this motorcycle, back when it came out. In the 80's, I had a friend with the 750, V45 version, when mine was a GS1100E. as much as I loved my Suzuki, the Honda looked and felt like it was from another world. 122 hp, it's strong. But with the torque bands of the V65, you get an amazing feeling. Try the VFR1200. See how this good can be even better...
I loved the 1984 V65 Magna i owned. NO Breakdowns from 10,000 miles to 35,000 Totally Trouble Free. Smooth and Fast......Cruiser that keeps up with a 1992 GSXR750 in straight line.

At 1:22 , "...might not have been selling..." The great Achilles heel of the Sabre 750 & 1100 was the shaft-drive...I test rode an 82 750 Sabre & I noticed right away the shaft-drive doing the "chassis jacking", lifting the back under acceleration & collapsing under engine braking. So, your going fast & deep into a turn & you close the throttle too fast, the rear collapses and your instantly grinding hard parts. The effect was quickly noticed on the 750 version and was rather brutal on the 1100 versions...a bad reputation.
Not 2 mention the Incredible Idioticly Dumb lubricating design to the cam-shafts which miserably wore at my friend's Vf700, and at my Vf 750. I have solved the Factory Problemsn at mine , but, it was not so easy back in 1995, when i didn't have so much knowledge as 2day.
So I wanna build a cafe racer that can compete with my other sport bikes I have and was recommended this bike. I wanna know if the hype is true 120+ HP and 160+ mph??
@@Semajeshorter hp when new was 121. I cannot account for top speed but she is quiet and easy to get up to speed. I would say handling and brakes won’t stand up to a super sport.

This bike was not for the faint of heart and it actually did better if you romped on it. widest power band i've ever met on any engine. I ran this bike in the far West and the northwest Several times I've pulled 110 mile per hour average cruise speeds without an issue to the bike over my body had a hard time😂😂😂😂

@@mcycleshawn you ought to, I think it's a great bike. I just got mine going again, just fuel line, spark plugs and oil change. Thought I had clutch problems, gears froze up but all is good now.

It does have more power. 116hp for Magna and 121hp for Sabre . Both are shaft drive. If you want to go to chain drive you can pick up the 1000 Honda Interceptor
It was Not just the cams that Honda totally screwed at These Engines, but also the bearing surfaces in the head wore Very Quickly ( Because that oil line 4 the heads , went up as by-pass - Before the Main oil filter ) , plus the rocker arms wore out tooo soon ( although they were chromed ) , and once it all seized and weared , than Also the con-rod bearings died Very Soon. But This year, i am solving These Honda-Failures Completely on a Vf 700 from my friend , with boring the cam caps 4 the lubrication 2 the End cam-bearings , plus closing all holes on the cams , plus installing additional housing 4 the additional oil filter , which Honda "forgot" 2 install . Yes this bike was a sport touring bike that also could perform like a performance bike
LOL V65 is no sports touring bike it is a cruiser and by today's standards it's handling characteristics are abysmal.
I'd love to have an 83 or 84 Sabre 1100. Really miss the 83 Magna 1100 I had. Great bikes.
Sabre 1100 will be 84-85. Should have kept making it! 83 Magna is the best!!
Yep the v65 Sabre was a two year bike, '84 and '85 only. Love my '84 ❤️

There is an electronic part for speedo too
To make your odometer and speedometer work, replace the plastic gear that meshes with the front tire.
I believe I already tried that to remedy the situation

Hey bro, have you considered public transportation?
If I lived near a City I would!
I am from the Netherlands, I have had 4 V65 Sabre bikes. The only country to officialy import these superbikes outside of the USA.
They have weak top end
the sabre engine allthough the same engine as magna it turns backwards to the magna engine and i think its chain drive more power

My 83 honda shadow 750 rear brakes don't work. Took them apart and the shoes look glazed. What would cause them to glaze over and not work.
That can sometimes happen if the brakes get overworked and over heated
