Thanks a million for this video. Informal English fascinates me like for ever. It makes my Eng sound more natural. People use informal language like most of the time. Again thank you Alex. Thumbs up!
Hi Alex, Thanks a lot for this lesson and I'm looking forward to others like this. I'm fond of informal English too! Thanks for taking time to answer us too. I appreciate that!
Thank you, Alex! Very useful colloquial sentenses. In Russian there is a similar phrase about horses, literally translated it sounds as:"Don't race horses"
Thank you so much for the valuable information. This is Megna from India. I like the way you teach. You are fantabulous. I have learnt so much from your English grammar videos. It's hard to find words to express my gratitude. I would like to thank engvid team also for introducing such a wonderful professor to us. Once again thanks a lot 🙂 I have a request. Could you please make a video on "to" and "for"? Could you explain when we can use them correctly? From what I gather, to - exchange information/things for- benefit But I don't know the precise use. Thank you 🙂
I'm so happy to hear that you've been improving your English with our lessons. There is no better result and no better news for us than this! Regarding "to" and "for," we have a video on this topic here: th-cam.com/video/E3gvjrh5_TY/w-d-xo.html Please let me know if this helps! I also did a lesson that touches on this topic, and you can watch that right here: th-cam.com/video/DPmjYD6Qi5I/w-d-xo.html :) Good luck, and please let me know if this makes things clearer!

Hold your horses, Alex, you're gonna get yourself hurt!!!...but please do not hold your tongue, say what you've got to say, hehe. Oh and by the way cut it out, stop wearing those kinds of weird t-shirts, hehe, I'm just practicing, trying to use the informal commands. An amazingly useful video, thanks Alex for the time you take to record this kind of videos!!! (Please lemme know If I used 'em properly.)
That's a question with a long answer. Haha. I'm going to direct you to this link to make things clearer...or more confusing. :) I'm not sure which! english.stackexchange.com/questions/140463/whats-the-difference-between-speak-and-talk-grammatically-speaking Some quick differences... -you SPEAK a language -SPEAK refers more to your ability to produce speech ("A person who is incapable of speaking is called mute.") -TALK refers more to your ability to have a conversation ("I'm having trouble talking today. My ideas are all mixed up.") -SPEAK usually implies one-way communication, while TALK is more conversational and implies two people at least ("I spoke to my mom about my grades. We talked for an hour about them.") -they can be interchangeable in many contexts "Don't speak/talk to me!" These are very general guidelines, but they should help you understand some of the differences.
Hi Khyber, I haven't taught IELTS in many years, but I'm still familiar with it. I made some IELTS/TOEFL videos in the past. You can check them on my channel. Thanks for your support!
Pleasure is mine. Of all the Engvid teachers you are the most pleasant and most active and most vibrant. With all respect to others. I enjoy very much listening to your accent.
Alex! I am going to make use of this lesson in my seminar at university (which I am supposed to give to my colleagues of the teaching staff at the Dept. of the English Language in a week from now) It is about simplification in nonstandard English grammar.
The difference is in the American pronunciation of the first syllable. Water - WAW-ter (like you're going to the dentist: awwwww) What're - WUH-ter I hope this helps!

Thanks from Brazil ❤️🇧🇷
Thanks, Alessandro! I'm glad it was useful. And yeah, these are common expressions that are definitely useful to know. I hope they feel comfortable for you. :)
Let me see... Cut it out - cease and desist Get lost - leave this instant Sleep tight - sleep well Chill out - calm yourself Dig in - bon appetite (French :)) Watch your step - mind the road/path/gap Quit moaning - cease your bellyaching Hang in there - stay the course Hold your horses - "slow down" is already a pretty good way to say this. Or "Let's back up a bit..." (go back in your thoughts/in the conversation) Hold your tongue - this is already pretty formal...maybe "Mind your tongue" I hope this helps!

In New York people say "Shut the f*ck up” all the time even the cops It's like it's perfectly acceptable now...

Greetings from Canada! Thanks for studying with me.
Hello
Actually I need to use it in my work some time thanks 🙏
Alex , can we use the word speaking instead of talking. Are these both kept the similar meaning or have some difference?
That's a question with a long answer. Haha. I'm going to direct you to this link to make things clearer...or more confusing. :) I'm not sure which! english.stackexchange.com/questions/140463/whats-the-difference-between-speak-and-talk-grammatically-speaking
Some quick differences...
-you SPEAK a language
-SPEAK refers more to your ability to produce speech ("A person who is incapable of speaking is called mute.")
-TALK refers more to your ability to have a conversation ("I'm having trouble talking today. My ideas are all mixed up.")
-SPEAK usually implies one-way communication, while TALK is more conversational and implies two people at least ("I spoke to my mom about my grades. We talked for an hour about them.")
-they can be interchangeable in many contexts "Don't speak/talk to me!"
These are very general guidelines, but they should help you understand some of the differences.
