  • This awesome technique is a staple of Rock Guitar. Notable users include Zakk Wylde, Billy Gibbons, Eddie Van Halen, Randy Rhoads, Richie Faulkner and more!
    It can be pretty tricky to get the hang of. Hopefully this lesson will help you out!
    Best of luck!
    Cheers
    Sam

    I’ve been through so many tutorial vids on pinch harmonics over the past few days, all show boating wanna be rock legends, but then I found this vid. A genuine guy, who genuinely loves to play, doesn’t care about how good he looks on camera (didn’t even edit out nearly slipping off his chair) watched this REAL guys quick video and went straight over and managed to find my first few pinched harmonics! Thank you Sam!

  • @jojo1234a

    I am a total beginner and today I discovered harmonics by mistake, albeit on an acoustic but it was still cool. I was just practicing and made this accidental but nice sound, and was like "I didn't mean to do that but I liked it". So I tried some more areas and in my beginners brain, it felt like touching a hot kettle. Just touch it and then, ouch, remove your hand quick. Then I called my Dad on the phone who is a seasoned and amazing guitarist, and he blew my mind, explaining about how it's essentially splitting the strings in half, or quarters or whatever, and that you can tune up a guitar on harmonics alone, and how with an electric guitar you need harmonics to ensure the intonation is correct, then he went on to explain what intonation is. Well, suffice to say my mind was blown and overfilled with info. Until today I never realised quite how complex a guitar is, or how it has to be absolutely spot on perfect to work. My mind was so blown after speaking to him actually that I had to put my guitar away and go and get a cup of tea lol. But, wow, what an instrument. I'm just feeling in awe and a little overwhelmed at how complex a guitar is, and simultaneously shaking in my boots that I ever decided to learn to play it. Side note, my dad said something about harmonic screamers on an electric, but I couldn't get my head around it. What is a harmonic screamer? Thanks.

    • @justanothervagabond5346
      @justanothervagabond5346 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Jojo Sagewitch Harmonic screamer is sound when you bending strings on pinch harmonic , optionaly you can use vibrato in combination , it's a lick used mostly in metal genre for imitating screaming or bomb falling , it is pretty useful in heavy music.Try to listen cemetery gates of Pantera, you will notice when guitar start screaming.

    I had no idea about the harmonics before the 5th fret that's freaking badass!!!

    • @kel_25
      @kel_25 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The harmonics are diving the string length into 2 (12 fret), 3 (7th fret), 4 (5th fret) etc. This is why the 12th and 5th fret harmonics are octaves of the original open note, as halving the string length doubles the vibration frequency.
      Obviously you can divide it into more than 4 bits, but the precision needed makes it a lot more difficult to get a clean, ringing sound from it.

    Guys, just pretend you are holding the tiniest cup of tea. Your index right under the thumb, both curled up and relaxed. Start with the 6th strings, frets 3-5 . The easiest way to do it would be with nails, but with picks you get the crispy tones and more varieties of sounds. Plus always on bridge pick up :)
