Shane Burcaw (he/him) is the author of several award-winning books about disability. He is the President of a nonprofit organization called Laughing At My Nightmare, and a renowned public speaker who has performed across the country at places such as Harvard University, The University of Florida, The University of Connecticut, Princeton University, and many more.
Hannah Burcaw (she/her) graduated from Carleton College, where she studied Sociology and Anthropology. She films and edits the “Squirmy and Grubs” vlog, which has over 1,000,000 subscribers on TH-cam. Hannah has spoken at prestigious universities and Fortune 500 companies alike about the realities of ableism. On her popular Instagram account, she advocates for acceptance of all people and works to improve the way society thinks about disability.
Shane and Hannah have been together for over four years. They got married in September of 2020 in the midst of a global pandemic in their backyard, with their officiant conducting the ceremony via Zoom. Their interabled relationship often confuses people, because much of society still cannot fathom people with disabilities being involved in loving, intimate relationships. Anyone who watches these episodes will quickly see their relationship is just as “normal” as any other. Sure, Hannah helps Shane use the bathroom and brush his teeth, but those activities do not detract from the emotional, intellectual, and physical connection they experience together.

Shane loves his new chair!! Was beginning to think we'd never hear him say that. LOVE the Huntington Gardens!! Even devoting an entire day doesn't feel like enough time to take in everything.
I think I just realized why I love this channel so much... it's Hannah's sarcasm and Shane's sense of humor... the playful banter back and forth, like an old married couple, is so genuine and endearing...
Reminds me of the old classic tv sitcoms of the past that we grew up with and that make us laugh, where even petty squabbles come from a place of love, and are found hilarious by outside observers... it's so funny when Hannah acts annoyed at Shane's jokes, which only makes them even funnier...
The better we get to know the both of you, the more we love you...

Hi Shane and Hannah from balmy North Dakota! (-2°) Your videos are incredibly uplifting. So fun to watch the two of you as you navigate your lives. As the parent of two young ladies, that are uniquely wonderful, gives a certain promise of the future. Our older daughter passed a year ago, but our younger daughter has autism. Thanks for giving joy and laughter to challenges. Looking forward to more videos!

I *knew* that Hannah's favorite thing was going to be the ability to ride on the wheelchair. LOL! I'm glad that you're adjusting to the new ride, I know it was a bit of a struggle for a little while.

Besides the fact that you are an interabled couple, you are such a healthy, loving couple and I, as 48 years old, think, the toxic masculinity today is so overwhelming, you two bring back hope of finding that in someone! Every time I watch a clip of yours, I am in total awe, as I feel your inability is so irrelevant against your human skills! You two as a couple make such a good example of how a loving relationship can work out, with or without disability, it is so beautiful to watch you both! You really bring out the best in eachother, thank you for sharing your journey, it is a pleasure to follow!

Hey guys. I'ma PTSD survivor, full time disability recipient here, well vocational rehabilitation is almost at the self employment stage. Any ways, I just wanted to shout out to you Shane, for your courageous nature. Now, I would lend you my mobility if you could lend me more courage. Oh wouldn't that be nice? I know I'm silly. Any ways seriously, have you two looked into training a service dog/alpaca? Hah well I figured some people wouldn't be able to tell it's not a real dog? Lol but I only say it because I'm not only a dog trainer, but I full trained my own panic attacks detection service dog, and it was the best experience and Joker, helps me with a lot more that panic detection. Anyway just wondering what your thoughts are and if you two have ever thought about it in the past? Thanks, and you two keep up the good work. I appreciate your guys energy. Helps me from time to time so thanks for that 🤗😊

So glad you enjoyed your outing on such a beautiful day. I absolutely love Huntington Library... It's truly a museum on beautiful landscaped grounds with fantastic statues. If you get a chance, go! I'm glad I went while I could walk more, there's many places to sit for a rest. It's the artwork & Heavens Gate (I think that's the name) It's HUGE & golden. Did you two get to see it?

The Huntington is HUGE! I walked my feet off the last time we went. The flowers and paths are wonderful though. The Japanese garden is amazing! I loved the DaVinci drawings too.

I don't think Disney wrote any of those stories, most of them are just old European tales, adjusted for kids (because the original versions were much gloomier), as a child in Europe I was familiar with all those stories before I saw any of the Disney cartoons

Next time you are in Pasadena, try Lucky boys and try their breakfast burrito, The Hat if you are into chili cheese fries and burgers, check out Afters ice cream as well if you want something sweet. If you are in East LA try Azteca tortilleria, if shane wants to go to a brewery try golden road in San fernando or ballest point in long beach . I hope you guys are having fun in your trip 🤗
The Huntington is my absolute favorite library, art museum and gardens in all of the LA area! I haven't been back to CA since moving 25 yrs ago, but still remember it well! We went to all of the art museums and gardens in the area, it remains my favorite! The new chair is great! How long does it hold a charge? It seems that you were out and about most of the day!
i always watch all your video,s but more i feel bad because of this; if you meet people who you never meet and they want to say hello,because they read shane,s books,why are you always talk bad about them after or make fun of them//not nice..and i had so many time ask you something but you never answer like why can i not get the books of shane? here in the netherlands i can,t have them because they said,they are sold out,,never get a answer from you..another one; when you went to polen with your mom..why did hannah,s dad never came along??just had to get this of my chest,,i know you don,t read it or answer..witch is rude but still love shane,s humor..greetings willem
