Join me for a Bangkok Hospital Tour. I will give you an overview of the Bangkok International Hospital, one of the more popular options for Medical Tourism in Thailand, providing world class healthcare at reasonable prices.
Yes there are much cheaper (and very good) options for visiting doctors in Bangkok and across Thailand, and I will make a future video about that. This video, however, introduces you to a premier option that does cost more but is still quite affordable.
Bangkok Hospital provides ease of use that is tough to match, offering you the ability to get world class health care with English speaking doctors and nurses.
I also show you the best place to eat lunch if you end up visiting this hospital. A delicious bowl of noodles!
And as a bonus, you'll get a tour of a rental apartment just steps from the hospital.
As always, prices are shown for everything, and here are some links to help you find the featured places in this video:

Thanks for sharing this. I had a similar experience in Bangkok in 2016. Different hospital, but just as good. My wife had a minor medical emergency. She was able to get an examination, lab tests, prescriptions, etc. Everyone in the hospital spoke excellent English. Total cost, including 3 prescriptions, was US$48. When they told us the cost, the first words out of my mouth were, "We could retire here."

$65 for just doing ears check is quite expensive in Thailand. But this is a 5-stars hospital, so basically you pay for the premium service. Normally 3-4 stars private hospital should cost you around $25 - $40 and their service is pretty good. For government hospital, Thai citizen can get it check up for free, but the place is always crowded.

I was born in Ubon Ratchathani in a public hospital. My father is a Thai citizen and my mom is a Pakistani. While my birth, the doctor had to do a C-section, and my dad was not present and the hospital required that there must be someone from my family to sign the consent form. As there was no one, so the doctor himself signed the consent form and took all the responsibility. Such a gentleman he was. My total respect to that doctor (an angel for us). I am so much obliged and indebted to Thailand (my country) and its people. Long live Thailand.
P.S: The public hospital of 1990's Ubon Ratchathani was still far better than a private hospital of 2022's Pakistan.

It's good if you made an appointment before you go to the hospital. but if you suddenly feel sick and you want to see the doctor ASAP just walk-in. It's okay. you'll get a check-up on that day anyway. I say this because I know that in some countries if it's not an urgent case, you need to make an appointment first then you have to wait for a few days to see a doctor. it's super easy to see a doctor in Thailand.
BUT!!! It's another way around if you want to see a doctor in a public hospital. There are a large number of patients in a public hospital so you need to be early. A public hospital is great. It's cheaper than a private hospital and doctors are skillful since there are tons of cases in their hands.
Now maybe you question the ability of doctors in private hospitals, are they skillful enough?
Don't worried. Because almost every doctor in a private hospital has worked for a public hospital as well.
So they've been through numerous cases before.
Even the fresh-grad from Med school needs to be an intern in a public hospital. You won't easily find intern doctors in a private hospital.

I grew up here in Thailand. Been living for 23 years and my hospital trips were never disappointing. Bumungrad Hospital saved my mom from cancer, and even not so expensive hospital like Vhibaram did save my life. There are many other not so expensive hospitals that give good service with English speaking staff. If a foreigner can speak Thai that helps a lot too, there are public hospitals which give great service as well but ofc a lot of people in queue. Same goes with Animal hospitals, there are many who really cares and not overcharged.

Bumrungrad Hospital is considered the number 1 hospital in Thailand and regularly is listed in the top 10 hospitals world wide. The quality of medical care and service is fantastic. The joke is that Bumrungrad is a 5 star resort! Approximately 500,000 people per year from all over the world come to Bumrungrad. I lived in Bangkok for 2 years in a hotel about 130 meters from Bumrungrad. Once I was a registered patient, I never had to have an appointment. I could go to the specialist center without an appointment and never had to wait more than 20 minutes to see a doctor. Most of the time, the visit, with medicine, cost me about $50. The most expensive was a visit to see a orthopedic surgeon and with Xrays and pain medication, the visit came to $60.

I've been to Bangkok Hospital several times over the past 10 years and have been impressed by the care I received. It's not the highest rated or expensive. That honor goes to Bumrungrad Hospital. Since I live stateside my health insurance also covered part of the hospital fees. In 2015 I did a comprehensive 8-hour physical including EKG, sonograms, chest x-rays, etc. Total cost was about $620. But since my x-ray detected pneumonia, my Blue Cross insurance paid for all but $60 of the bill.

Thank you so much for your clip to promoting my country. Our medical tourism is rapidly growth with 3.3 million medical tourists last year. Apart from tourism industry, we are trying to push the medical industry to world class soon (not only 1 or 2 hospitals but most of the private hospital). Our doctor might not possess much research papers but they did more and more medical cases. Therefore, they are quite experienced and skillful.
Of coz, Bangkok is the best place for retirement, cheaper, good food, good medical, easy to travel around Asian and many optional treatment ie. Spa, massage etc.
PS1. The post office and all gov. office will be closed on Sunday; however, you might find them open in shopping mall everyday. Only the isolate office is closed according to office hours. Some post offices in shopping mall are open until midnight.
PS2. Bangkok is working on moving cable to underground. You might not be hurt anymore within few years.

I just chanced upon ur channel and thank you for featuring useful information for people who may want to relocate to Bangkok. Most channels only feature the attractions and food, and its good to know some additional information. I visit thailand frequently and has visited people in the hospitals on a couple of ocassions (though none at bangkok hospital). One thing i noticed for potential retirees though, most of the streets around bangkok are not wheel-chair friendly, so if you are dependent on one to go around, it might prove challenging.

I think you will find Bumrungrad International Hospital is the Cadillac in Thailand. Last I heard, and this may have changed, Bumrungrad is the only accredited hospital in Thailand, which can be important when dealing with insurance claims. With the exception of Bumrungrad, all the private hospitals in Thailand are owned by one company, which also owns a small percentage of Bumrungrad. I have never made an appointment at any of the private hospitals. I just walk in and the longest I've waited has been about 15 minutes, even for a specialist. Thailand is known for its world class medical care, and as you have demonstrated its not expensive. Most even serve complementary water or coffee, while waiting to see the doctor. In most cases a photo copy of your passport photo page is all that's needed. With the post office, all you need to do is show them a photo of it stored on your phone. All they care about is entering your passport number into their system.

Came to this exact hospital in 2018 for major surgery. Broke my Tibia and Fibula in a mtorcycle accident in Laos. Air Ambulance, 2 major operations and 1 clean out. Around 6 days in hospital overall……cost me £49,890 🙂 I couldn’t believe how expensive this place was!!
That said, the staff, the food and the treatments were to the highest standard! Make sure you have the correct medical insurance people! Its so so important!!

Hey Chris, while some of us may have seen videos from Johnny (Australian) and Simon (Brits - Land of Smiles Thailand) sharing about their EXPENSES LIVING IN THAILAND, it will still be very useful to hear from you, IF, that's, IF you don't feel it is intruding your privacy or exposing too much of your personal information. This sort of FIRST-HAND sharing of expat living in Thailand will be very useful for some of us to decide if it is still feasible to retire in Thailand, giving the fact that expenses are rising in Thailand, property prices are raising fast, government is changing policies about retirement VISA and medical requirements, etc. Another topics of interest would be about what it takes to own a property in Thailand, including a condo, a landed house, even a LUXURY VILLA like you. Some of us might have learnt from some YT videos about setting up a company with 49/51 stakes with Thai owners, going thru some accounting firm, finding a "temp" partner, LEASE the property to our own company, and so on and so forth. Can you do a few episodes on what places have you explored before decided to buy a villa in Koh Samui, how much is considered cheap or over-priced, how do you go about the paper-work and processing, how much cost it incur, WHAT IS THE CATCH (things to watch out for), any loophole, etc?......
In Short, for NON-TRAVELING and Chris-Being-Serious topics, if you don't mind:-
    (1) Expenses Living In Thailand (great if you can have some breakdown)
    (a) Bangkok (for your case)
    (b) Koh Samui (if you have anything to share)
    (c) where else you live in Thailand beside Bangkok & Samui?
    (2) Property hunting and pricing, location, etc
    (3) Steps and procedures, costs and "tips" of buying diff types of properties in Thailand
    (4) Money transfers (big sum) from oversea to Thailand for property purchases

I recently went to Pattaya Bangkok Hospital for a simple eye examination required for my health insurance. It was similar to this, like a 5-star hotel environment, I had a personal concierge to accompany me throughout my visit. I had the full gamut of eye checks. My longest wait was like 5 minutes. Cost me 1045 baht ($35).
I could have got it done much cheaper at Hua Hin Hospital, but the eye doctor was not on staff that day. The medical competency would have been on par, but the waiting would have been much greater, likely hours in the open-air waiting area.

  • @sk8rdaniel

I loved going to this hospital for my prescription because they spoke very good English and it was very comfortable setting. Some other hospital was cheaper but longer wait times or you get a doctor that is harder to understand. Also sometimes at the cheaper hospital they wouldn't have my prescription on hand where here they did.
