Pals webbing is how MOLLE works. MOLLE is specifically the name of the equipment complex in use by the army. PALS is just the connection system, like M1956 slide keepers (aka "alice clips") or M1910 wire hanger hooks.

I am on about 15 meds shots for diabetes and my otcs. I can pack these with a small trauma kit then I work hand in hand with my family because in our situation we are bugging in. I never carry more than two days of my pain meds. So if I was killed or whatever they will get nothing. This bag has so much potential that the family will each have one with a few goodies. My Mom and I have large, well stocked but need to add quick clot. Thank you very much for taking time and teaching us from your point of view. Be blessed.

2:46 - actually, I think they intended for the internal bungee cord to hold the door open at 45 degrees when it's worn on a belt. This keeps the internal stuff from falling out so you can access it without having to take your belt off. I had an old cell phone case that worked exactly like this.

I've heard a similar story that it's designed for the same purpose, as you've said, but for when the FR-1 is attached to a backpack as a "first response" med kit. (I presume "first response" is why it's called a "FR-1").

I like to watch B.O.B videos just to see what other people carry to learn new ideas there is one thing I learned in the scouts is to carry some lint from your clothes dryer it is free doesn't weight anything is very compactible and is great for starting fires when you cant find dry kindling like your video thanks

On the area's that like to hold the water, you can spray it with silicone spray and it will help keep the water out. I use the same stuff I use on my boots to keep them water-resistant. It's called KIWI Camp Dry.

This was the first item from Maxpedition I acquired. It really is tough to top as an all-around pouch. It is so versatile, and will last for decades, if mine is any indication. Mine started out as a B.O.B. as well, but moved to a level 1 1st aid kit after I got more aid gear. I had the liner for the zipper and the PALS webbing h20 treated, so it's now almost dunkable and stays dry. It is still the one item that goes with me everywhere every time. Thanks for re-showing this great pouch!

I have mine attached to my backpack and use it as a medical pouch. It easily holds trauma shears, 2 medical clamps, CAT tourniquet, medical tape, 2 pressure dressings, needle nose pliers, glow stick, alcohol based hand sanitizer, and a small "boo-boo" kit with antiseptic wipes, bandaids, etc. It is similar in size to the one shown in the video. Thanks for the review!

Oh, one more tip. Swap your green paracord with the bright neon variety. Easier to see, especially in dark. If you need to leave breadcrumbs for whatever reason (for yourself or others), cut off a couple inches at a time and tie them to branches. You could even take multiple colors and if you had some sort of coding system, you could communicate with others in your party. Red/red/blue means emergency, need medical help. Or whatever.

  • @Shorty_Lickens
    @Shorty_Lickens 13 ปีที่แล้ว

If you are trying to save space for other stuff you can swap out the big Sog tool for a Sog Crosscut or Leatherman Squirt. Gerber also has mini tools. You should add a Photon keychain light, possibly to the outside. Makes it easier if you can grab it in the dark, and helps find other stuff in the bag or a larger flashlight.
Add a Rite In The Rain pen or Fisher Space pen. Useful for more than just writing. Also maybe Rite In Rain waterproof notepad. And a big reflective mirror. FireSteel.

Another thing you might think about is a short length (6"-12") of re-rolled black electrical tape for binding a cut on your finger/hand. That's pretty much the only place I ever cut myself and I've found it's pretty durable, and holds really well, over a band-aid. Plus electrical tape is useful in general, as a bonus

Waterproof the inner contents. Any nylon pouch that does not have a drainage method on it will fill up and hold water. You need water to drain from first and second line gear as soon as possible due to the weight it adds. spend a few days in and out of various sized bodies of water and this becomes apparent.

I wish the condor rip away pouch had the adjustable clam shell paracord ties. this is a very clever and simple way to only allow the pouch to open part way, instead of dropping completely open.
thanks for the great video sootch.

Except for combat use, high-visibility color and reflector strips will make it easier to retrieve an emergency kit in rubble, mud, vegetation, ice, water, etc. Also helps rescuers locate a victim who is injured or unconscious.

I have three bags: A SOG (Rush 72 Copy) for my GHB. A Falcon II that I keep my Motorcycle gear & Medical kit in when I go out on my DR 650. And lastly, I'm a CERT Volunteer & have a Foliage Green Condor II for that purpose. I just ordered a Maxpedition Beefy Organizer-My plan for this bag is to be my Have-On-Hand-At-All-Times EDC Bag, with my tools, small medical kit, lights & Batteries, One Day emergency food in case I'm forced to be out overnight somewhere, a second Lifestrraw, Fire Kit, a 5 Amp usb battery & Goal Zero mini usb light (10 Hour runtime), SOL Bivvy, and other everyday essentials.
My ultimate goal is for my Beefy to be the "Bridge" as it were. The Beefy will be with me at all times, no matter what. IT will be the GLUE that holds my emergency gear together, as I can now use it with ANY of my three bags whenever the need arises-Cheaper than buying THREE EDC Kits.

Easy Answer: Wrap everything in ziplock bags. Standard rule of thumb when hiking.. make sure it is waterproof, and if it isn't, stick it in something that is! Nothing worse then getting an EM Field Kit soaking wet, makes a bunch of it worthless to use until things dry out.

I would add Steel cup, a 1qt Ziplock bag for water, firesteel, poncho, fork, a mini-fishing kit and some snare wire. You can get a pack almost as nice from Academy in the hunting section. I have both and actually prefer the one from Academy. Its not as stiff and doesn't look so military. Waterproof pack would be better. those zippers will leak. But if you have a poncho, just carry it under that.

I recommend a pair of tweezers., a pair of medical gloves, mouth shield, and small container of antibacterial hand wash. Tiny pack.. wouldn't hold ER type stuff.-recommend candy(glucose tabs)or something for hypoglycemia.

I would add the Sterling Sharpener to your survival pouch, at 0.5oz, its a great addition and it sharpens almost anything from knives to axes. I have one in my pouch, one in my backpack and one in the car. A dull blade will kill you faster than almost anything.

Sootch, noticed I have the same SOG tool and M16 knife in my small survival kit I keep in my Jeep. I wanted to mention, that while the Maxpedition stuff looks great - it seems pricey taking into account the stuff is made in Taiwan. I prefer to stick with made the USA gear of this type.

You did good commercial for that pouch, I ran to buy it emedietly.....BUT it was sold out at the only store in Stockholm that sells it even though it said on their website it was in stock. That made so frustrated! I had to wait three more days until they had ordered it from the agent for the Swedish market. Brilliant pouch for EDC, mine is fully loaded with "good to have stuff".

The best type, I know of, are Cyalume. I'm fairly certain their the brand used by the military. They're brighter and last longer than any other types I've seen. Still, party glow sticks are a hell of a lot cheaper, and come in a wider variety of sizes, so I've also got some of those in my survival pack. :-)

I bought a Mongo Versipack and originally a condor foldout IFAK. The condor won't fit due to the fact that it needs 3 rows of Molle webbing and there is only 2 on the side pouch of the Mongo. I plan on getting this pouch to use as a IFAK on my Mongo because I'm a truck driver and could need it for myself of be the first one on a accident and need to render first aid. By the way I love my Mongo and use it every day.

CRAZY GLUE! I can't emphasize enough the applicability of CRAZY GLUE in kits. It's and INSTANT wound stitch, better than butterfly, it makes tiny knots stronger, has immense practical applications in survival and is tiny.

Most people put a blanket, warm clothes, stuff, etc... in their trunk, but what about if your pinned down in the front seat, possibly injured, and you can't access the trunk? For this reason I am considering how to make a glove box survival kit. The kit that I'm making isn't complete yet, but so far I have a few fruit bars, a few bottles of water, a map reading compass, a duatang with a bunch of maps in it and what I'm calling a 'winter kit'. My winter kit is a pencil case with a freezer bag inside of it for waterproofing containing a thick pair of socks, a lighter, a toque, a cheap pair of compact thin gloves, and a survival blanket (I can't fit anything else into winter kit).
If anyone has any ideas regarding a glove compartment backup survival kit, I am interested in your idea's. The kit that I am putting together is a backup for the eventuality that I might be pinned down and unable to physically access the trunk. It therefore must be able to fit in the glove compartment for better access. Thanks, I am looking forward to any ideas that you may have! :D !!!!!!!!!

2 huge flaws.. when you poored water on it to demonstrate the water resistance, some water came on the huge side zipper and it got instantly soaked, meaning in heavy rain that bags content will get soaked in minutes, second flaw is based on the first one, your only means of making fire is a small box of matches and a lighter? well when they get wet they are both out of business so do pack a proper firesteel instead of those matches, do keep the lighter for dry conditions as a main firestarter

Sootch, I use something very similar to carry spare pistol ammo, clips and cleaning kit at the moment. I'll probably get three or four FR-1s in the near future, because the cases I am using now are over 25 years old, and probably need to be replaced.
When I am overseas, I'll probably use an FR-1 as my Comm Bag, for my satellite phone, spare batteries, headset and palm top computer. And, there will still be room for a couple of Clif Bars, too!

I would add a signal mirror to the loadout, as well as some salt tabs (or a few pouches of gatorade powder (individual servings). Nice looking bag; I would grab two, one for a loadout similar to yours, and one for nothing but medical (wrap a strip of red tape around the carry handle for an easy way to differentiate the two bags).
It would also make a great camp or hunting bag as well.
