@@hippo2065 I can confirm that those thinner ones will disintegrate the second they touch pavement unless they have an armoured palm. I lowsided last season, new rider who got too cocky. Was just wearing gloves, helmet and steel toes. Got a bunch of really bad road rash on my knees, forearm and palm. I had thinner gloves on that the dealer assured me were mid range. I put my palm down to get pressure off my forearm and it was torn through pretty much immediately.
My brother was hit by a driver who crossed a red light, he flew more than 10 feet and broke his right arm. However he was wearing a full riding suit with the complete gear. Not one scratch… if it wasn’t for that suit, he’d be dead. Sure he broke his arm but he would have been worse or dead if he wore regular clothes, as many do 🙄

Well... at some point, you encounter diminishing returns. You may have the best leather suit in the world, but if you hit something head-on that stops all your momentum, the suit will just become a leather bag full of minced meat. (but of course you need to wear some protective equipment, especially spine protector is underrated)

I clipped a guardrail on the way to work one day. My leather jacket kept gravel out of my shattered arm that split open on impact. The jacket, boots, and gloves were all scuffed. But most alarming was the chip missing out of the front of my full-face helmet! Granted, I had burns and a shattered arm but could have had a shattered jaw and missing teeth as well.
I had a open face helmet alongside a full face that I used for hot days or short trips. Iv'e tossed it in the bin. There are plenty of full face helmets that allow air in to cool, not worth loosing your jaw.
This is exactly what happened to me in a pair of Reebok classics. Worst pain ever and I have to attempt to ride back home with an open shoe, bloody toes and a broken rearset. I wish I could post pictures on here.
Huge advocate for safety riding gear. I was the type to ride with vans and a cool tshirt. One cold night I happened to have a riding jacket and my riding boots on and a lady ran a red light and knocked me out of my motorcycle. Only thing that happened to me was a dislocated shoulder but my gear held the impact and the rough slide across the pavement. Ride safe
About time another advert like that was put up again by a TAC in Australia. TAC Vic had Doohan doing one back in 2015 about safety gear. Here in SA, and likely other states, there was one that would come up before movies at the cinema with a rider going down and it talking about safety gear, think that was also TAC Vic. As a motorcyclist, now self-retired from riding due to medical reasons because I dont want to become a statistic and leave some driver/family out there think they are to blame for it. I wont fully go into only to say apnea is involved. I always shake my head when I see idiots on bikes wearing shorts and sandals, or even a t-shirt and jeans. When I got my bike at 17, the first thing I did was buy leathers and decent boots, and believe me, they saved me twice from road rash injuries.

After experiencing an accident similar to the one depicted in this ad, albeit not as severe, I was wearing a pair of Crocs shoes. Upon impact with the ground, one of the shoes came off, leaving my feet unprotected, resulting in a minor injury.

You’ll be saving more than what you spent on gear in hospital bills or time off work to heal, it’s just not worth not having it. And if you say you can’t afford the gear, then honestly you shouldn’t be riding or have a motorcycle. What if you had to buy the windshield and doors and airbag for your car? Went down doing 30 mph on a curve, new rider, and yeah legs were the only thing not properly protected and I ended up with a pretty deep wound on my leg. Gear only does so much, I broke my fibula and clavicle even with gear.
Depending on what speed and what rating your gear has it might only protect from road rash at a certain speed and not protect from blunt force. Some jackets do have stiffer protections that def help with broken bones, though they're more expensive and stiff
My uncle lost his leg because he simply fell with his bike while he was standing at a red light. He lost his balance and fell, the bike fell on his bare leg - he wore shorts - and the engine was really, really hot. He was alone and it took about 15-20 minutes until another vehicle pulled up to the scene and the owner was able to lift the bike of my uncles leg. The burns were so bad, that they had to amputate leg. If he would have worn his protective gear this would’ve never happened; he wouldn’t have lost his leg for the simplicity of an unbalance while making a stop….
All that matters is a good pair of boots, pants and gloves. A good riding jacket can be used, but the gloves alone could compensate for most of the damage.
Only if you're a cat and you ALWAYS land on your 4 legs :) I'd rather skip pants than jacket... Good proper jacket is easiest to buy, easiest to wear. Even at highest temps you can find dedicated cooling jacket which will give you proper heat control and comfort.

I did that, then summer hit and only wear gloves and shoes now (obviously also helmet)

This happened to me last November. The good thing is that I was riding slow and my bike slipped on corner. I got knee scrapped only.
Can confirm, road rash hurts. But so does +40C all day.... so I pick and choose.
All day? So it's a four-hour ride to work, you work for an hour, then it's another four-hour ride home? I would move closer to my job.

Как то упал в дождь , из за того что передавил передний тормоз , ехал где то 80 к моменту падения отормозился до 60 . Чудом ничего не сломал и не влетел по рядом едущую машину ,обошлось все ушибами локтя и бедра . По мимо экипа учитесь правильно тормозить ! Даже на мотоциклах с ABS .
