Ray Symbolic was the first sound system I heard from Jamaica in the UK. They played at a venue called Digbeth Civic Hall, Birmingham UK around 1979/80. Trust me I never seen that venue so cork with people. Jah Screw selecting and Ranking Joe on the mic. That dance will live in my memories for EVER...bless up

I was lucky enough to get to see Ray Symbolic when they first came to the UK back in 1980 . It was at Ladbrook Grove and let me tell you this we was outside at 6.30 pm YES 6.30 pm to mek sure we got in . The queue was going back way down Portabello rd by 8.00 pm . police everywhere trying to maintain order . But we got in around 9.30 and the rest was History . We came out about 2.am because the police had told them to stop playing . When we came out ............. " PURE PEOPLE " everywhere LIKE A FOOTBALL MATCH . AH truely GREAT NIGHT OUT

1982 December Ian going on vacation and my friend have me a tape and told me to check out the two youths on it. They were Charlie and Josie. Damn I was hooked, they were smooth and had the style. Dance hall is a world of its own. Everyone had their favorites. So much so that our eyes were blinded. Burro was okay to me then. Now I hear tapes of burro and I think he is fantastic. Never thought so 40 years ago, because other guys were just better.

When it comes to playing on one turntable nobody comes close to this man, from a side to b side In a split second and right on the drumroll, I witnessed him live when ray symbolic came to England In 1980-81 it was also the first time I saw a dj (ranking joe) and selector actually face the crowd, oh yes a night I will never forget.

I am smiling at your comment because I too listened to Ray Symbolic when they came to London. I was a big Ranking Joe fan and sneaked out of my house while still at school to go to the Bouncing Ball club in Peckham, South London.
